I have the Shimoda x30 and love it. You'll love yours too. Just need to fine tune it. Made that same mistake of staying out too late on a hike. Wasn't fun at all.
You as many other people have been spending much more time in the outdoors which is fantastic however lots of people are not aware of LNT (leave no trace) principles and end up ruining the experience for other by leaving trash and toilet paper everywhere or polluting water sources with soap. I would love if you can do a video educating beginners on leave no trace and how to be good outdoor stewards. Also sometimes people are unaware that they are doing something potentially harmful. We want to keep the outdoors as pristine as possible so others behind you can enjoy the experience!
Yes! Please do this. I live in a rural area and the trash that people leave on the recreational trails right by my house is astronomical. I tend to walk a lot and started carrying a plastic bag with me so that I can pick up the trash.
And it’s not just leaving trash, but also not touching/moving/taking rocks and plants. Also, if there is mud on the trail you should still walk through it and not step off the trail.
Absolutely! And I may also add: Do not leave unattended fires for the love of God!!!! Know the fire regulations of the area before you build a fire! There’s so much more to LNT, a video with some highlights would be fantastic
Thanks for a video like this. I’ve been trying to find a bag that with hold my camera and is good for hiking. There are not a lot of videos out there geared towards women. This is great that you posted one.
I just bought my first camera bag a couple months ago! It's a Lowepro Photo Active BP 300. It fits my gear (Nikon D3500, 2 lenses, binoculars, camera equipment, etc.) and is comfortable for day hikes. I'm only 5' 2" with a ridiculously short torso and it fits me really well. I've heard that it doesn't work as well for taller folks because of how high it rests on your back and the size, but for me it's been perfect! 😃
Loved the video! Ancient Lakes is an awesome early season hike - no rattlesnakes, cooler weather and there's no snow. I've done this one a couple of times, making it all the way down to the river and then back around Dusty Lake, turning this one into a loop. Great hike! I wasn't a big fan of the scrambling either. Eek! This is a great place to try out backpacking too.Excited to see where you go hiking next! Maybe I'll see you out on trail one of these times. :)
The outdoors has been much more meaningful to me over the last year as well, and I am always looking for new hikes. I live in eastern Washington too so I'm defintely adding this one to my list. Thanks! 🙂
Such a cool landscape!! I loved seeing the cat-tail style plants 😍I totally resented with you saying you're turning to the outdoors. I've noticed that a walk outside no matter where or what time of day significantly helps my mood and I always look forward to it. Awesome content as always Allison!
That's a beautiful area. In the summer it can get quite hot, which makes it perfect for spring/fall hiking when the mountains may still have too much snow or be too wet. Central WA is becoming my go to place outside of the summer.
that so speaks to me. i was recently looking for a backpack and facing the same challenge about the lack of female reviews for camera equipment esp. backpacks and advertisement that shows females wearing the backpack so as you said it get a sense of the proportion for female body etc. thanks for sharing
I love how much you go hiking in your own backyard! I am a Flight Attendant and I am thinking about moving to Bellingham, WA. Your videos help give me ideas with a list of must-do hikes on the All trails app. Would you consider making a video of your favorite hikes in WA?
Great video!! Been on the lookout for something like this. What's also really good is the extra level of customization for the straps and camera storage sizes :)
I just wanted to say that I appreciate your channel....and hope you continue to post and go places...I am hoping to move to Washington state soon....and you are a great resource for me.
My wife and I have a trip planned for Yosemite in late April and I went with the Wandrd Prvke 31 L. Also bought the Peak Design Travel backpack as my carry on for carrying all of my camera gear/drone/laptop. I’ll try and remember to let you know how it all works out!
@@allisonanderson Thanks Allison! Do you think I’ll need to be careful of rattle snakes? 😅 I’m so hoping it’s going to be too cold for them to come out but I feel like it’s right on the border.
Ah! So funny! My friend and I ran into you exactly at that steep part while you were coming down and we were going back up. Shortly after she told me “I think this is Allison Anderson, I follow her on TH-cam”. Well she was right! She just sent me the link to this video hehe. Ancient Lakes truly is a magical place. We’re planning to go back to backpack there this time! Those views are breathtaking and bring such peace!
Thank you for reviewing this bag!!! I actually am looking for a good camera bag to take to Glacier this summer and this looks perfect! I recently checked something off my bucket list I’ve been wanting to do for years: upgraded my camera and actually bought the Sony a7ii and a couple lenses you reviewed!!! Happy hiking!! ☀️☀️☀️
Love your vlogs, they've inspired me start creating my own, currently editing my first one!! Also, you're so brave to tackle going down those rocks next to that waterfall, I would've been way too scared to do that!!
If I had known how treacherous it was I probably wouldn't have done it, but once I committed it was like "well I might as well get something out of this!" good luck with the vlog, exciting you're getting started!
Love how you said, "I know there are other people out there who love camera bags" and I laughed. I've used a Tamrac bags for years, all over the world. It's been a long time since I've upgraded. Thanks!
Hello Allison it is so nice when you find a treasure.. Lovely Waterfall .. can you tell us how much it is to use Story blocks ? we hope you keep safe .Love and Light Sarah and Glenn
I solo hiked in and camped at ancient lakes and forgot my ear plugs. The noises coming from that lake kept me up all night, worst nights 'sleep' of my life.
Just finished a summit up Kilimanjaro and had the same dilemma with camera bag vs hiking pack. I ultimately went with a Osprey Manta 34 and added a Tenba BYOB 10 and it was the perfect combo for the trip. The Tenba easily accommodates a peak design carry strap so you just have one strap that you can switch between camera or bag if needed. Personally, I would rather invest in a hiking pack from a company like Osprey that has been designing hiking packs for almost 50 yrs (along with a lifetime warranty) and just find a way to protect my gear. That way I have the flexibility to use the bag with or without my camera gear or have my gear protected in any bag I might need or already own. Good luck!
Thanks for this! I've thought the exact same thing tons of times... if only Osprey would design a camera specific bag. I've never looked at the Tenba BYOB, thanks for the idea.
I have been looking into the x30 version of that bag and seeing the x50 on you I think the x30 would be perfect for me and my needs. Yes finally a woman showing off the bag haha
Yeah the x50 is pretty large, I spent hours trying to decide between the x30 and x50 and went with the x50 because it was the least like anything else I owned. But I think the x30 would be a better fit for day trips.
@@allisonanderson day trips is what I tend to do so thanks! BTW I really love the style you have for your channel. Glad you made the transition from makeup/beauty to life and tech
What you said about female reviews of backpacks 100% resonated with me! I was considering the Wandrd Prvke 21L and it was so hard to gauge how it would fit on me compared to all those tall men. Funnily enough, that was how I found your channel - and I also ended up purchasing the backpack and love it still! :)
I have that exact bag and LOVE it! I'm jealous because they don't have a men's tech strap, just the normal and a thick one, but I love putting my phone in that pocket. Do you every use the All Trails app? I've found so many hikes around my area with it and if you "record" your hike, it will notify you if you're off the trail, which happens often to me.
Thank you for posting this!! Just curious, how tall are you? I am looking at the 30 and 35 options since I am pretty short and normally just do day hikes. Also, how are you liking the black color? I like it much better than the green, but I was worried about it looking crazy dirty (maybe that doesn't actually matter, haha).
Huge thank you for a women's review on a bag. Im 5'6" too and seeing big, beefy men tell me the bag feels weightless isn't exactly helpful!😂 Thankful for all of your videos! Vicariously traveling through Washington with the help of your content!
Just found your channel! And I love your content! 😍 It’s so true that not a lot of high quality camera bag reviews are done by women. Was wondering if you could review Peak Design’s Travel bag with camera cubes or Nomatic’s Peter McKinnon bag.
As an avid hiker and backpacker it definitely takes some practice hiking and camping by yourself at night. But! If you can get past the mind games it very peaceful.
Mind games is a perfect way to describe it. I've thought about trying a solo backpacking trip but I just think I would spook myself too much letting my mind run wild at night.
@@allisonanderson Yeah my first night doing it by myself I was hammock camping and right as I was falling a sleep as massive animal came crashing through some bushes right next to me. Needless to say it scared the crap out of me. I talked myself up to get my head lamp to try and scare off the creature. I wipped out of my hammock to find an adorable dog. It was a hiker's dog who had gotten a head of the owner... hahaha It took a few more nights but your head starts recognizing what noises are normal and what is not.
@@allisonanderson I would definitely start solo camping close to the head of a trail and make sure its a trail you have hiked many time and very familiar with. That will help calm your mind when you think you hear a bunch of stuff at night.
