- This Christmas, I’m sharing one of my favorite wartime stories: the Christmas Truce of 1914. It’s a tale that reminds us of our shared humanity, even amidst the horrors of war.
Yes, the video is a little campy. But sincere...
Hey friends, Wes here. Army and Air Force veteran.
In this video, I’ll cover:
What Really Happened on Christmas Eve and Day, 1914: From carols sung across no man’s land to the extraordinary scenes of British and German soldiers shaking hands, exchanging gifts, and even playing football.
The Context of the Great War: How the stalemate in the trenches and the bitter cold set the stage for this moment of compassion.
Myth vs. Reality: Was the truce as widespread and magical as the stories suggest, or were there still areas of brutal conflict?
The Lessons of the Truce: How this spontaneous ceasefire offers a glimpse of hope and a reminder of what unites us, even in our darkest moments.
While the Christmas Truce was brief and localized, it left a legacy of humanity shining through the brutality of war-a legacy we can all learn from today.
I hope this story fills you with hope this holiday season. If you enjoy these moments of history, don’t forget to like and subscribe-it helps this channel grow and keeps these stories alive. Merry Christmas and happy holidays, my friends.

Thanks for the message of hope and peace. It's easy to forget humanity in these inhumane times. Bless you and yours in this age of conflict.
You’re a champion bloke Wes. Love your stories
One of my favorit moments in history.

Merry Christmas from Downunder NZ
All war is hell but I have a special regard for WWI veterans who sacrificed so much only to see the very next generation fighting again in Europe just two decades later.
I met a gentleman that participated in the Christmas truce while stationed with the the USAF 81st Fighter Wing❤ in England. This was back in the early 1980s . He spoke to the college History of Aviation class I was taking. He eventually got out of the trenches and became a pilot. The most compelling class I ever had.
Okay, now I'm in the mood to go watch and listen to Sabaton's Christmas Truce music video
We hope for the hope of mankind, the main enemy is powerhungry small men that provokes-orders-drive the hostilities to donate more power to them...
That's a nice house your in Wes....nice piano in the back ground...big tree...or is that a green screen??? ...lol..I would like a house like that, even if it is a green screen...very nice nice...
❤👍
There may have been something between Australian and Turkish teoops also at Gallipoli. Possibly it was in association with declared truces that occurred when both sides would come out to gather their dead comerades and some social exchange happened.
Thanks for reminding us Wes, wonderful story. Humanity and compassion can make miracles! 🇺🇸🇺🇦🇦🇺
That introduction is very funny. I know it's a cliché from somewhere. Maybe Bing Crosby but it was a general thing in 50s and early sixties. The pipe pose is surely Bing though.
But yeah , Queen Elizabeth even had mentioned this WW1 legend in one of her Christmas addresses some decades back. It's simply a case that the real dirty blood n guts killing and atrocities hadn't yet begun by Christmas of 1914 and virgin soldiers were still believing that everyone is beautiful.
I'v heard tales of Napoleons campaign into Russia, even though Moscow was in flames the troops looted the place as well as they could, but on the way back, it was so cold, some were trading diamonds the size of a mango for a pair of shoes...cause all thier toes were freezing off
That's so beautiful ❤
everyone expect the Canadians!!
