How to treat daylilies for gall midge damage

  • The best way to stop gall midge of coming back by using this spray it kills them outright allowing the rest of the lily to flower normally

    It’s a lot quicker to just snap off the distorted buds, sealing in zip lock bags and disposing or freezing 48 hours and disposing. You avoid breathing in all that spray and given the hundreds of midges in infected buds, I’m not convinced spray would work in any case. The bud is a write off anyway, so might as well pick them off and destroy. If you do the hand picking relentlessly, every year, the number of infected does get reduced significantly, but you have to stay on top of it. This year I have a small handful to discard, so I know this system does work.

      I truly tried that but it didn’t help at all. I have so many day lilies and I would full buckets with the buds. But following year the midge would be back worse than ever. I finally found a pesticide that I think worked. The one recommended to n this video is not available in the USA.
