Improving your High Jump Technique - Scissor Drill

  • This drill draws on a technique that students will have learned in their early years. Lower the bar and use a scissor action to jump over it, making sure that they land on their free foot
    Progression 1:
    Encourage the student to then land on their bottom, making sure that they create a right angle from their back to their legs.

    Progression 2:
    Once progression 1 has been mastered get the student used to landing on their backs. Make sure that they keep their backs parallel to the bar.

    This will just mess you up in the long run.
    You need to learn to rotate your body if you ever want any height.

    I'm 11 but when I was 10 it was like my second time doing high jump and my first time jumping over a REAL bar and i jumped 1.15 meters in a competition :)

    i have a competion next week and i am 15 years old! i can clear 1.65 nd i am wondering what is the best technique ? can some1 help?

    I am 14 i can scissor 160cm and flop 182cm is that good..??

    The scissor, from what I have been taught, is for normally low heights and then you go into the flop at higher heights. Personally I hate scissoring and I would rather just skip the lower heights and go right into flopping.

    im a 7th grader and its my first year EVAR doing high jump and my coach says im capable of doing 5 feet and it once but tht was ONCE! and help to get my jumping higher?

    @mimic888 yeah,but scissoring is a nice way to improve your running and your vertical

    I have high jump Infront of my whole school today and I'm 10 and I've only had two practices and I could make it to 1m but yesterday I couldn't even make it 81 cm because it was Infront of a lot of people and my body like shuts down when I have to do something Infront of my whole school 😢 and my legs are super sore 😫
