    Glad to see it. Dove season opened in Texas a week ago. But the drought has burned everything to a crisp, at least in central Texas, and dove are few and far between right now. But sure as anything, come deer season when I'm sitting in my blind, dozens will fly over...lol.

    Consider dove predators. They love the tall grass to hide in before launching an attack on the dove feeding in the short grasses. Maybe that is why the dove are heading for the taller grasses first, to be able to hide from the predators while finding seeds. So, perhaps if you set the mower height up a few inches you could leave enough cover for the dove to forage and not be totally exposed. Just a thought...

    My least favorite days are during dove season. The doves who live by us are a joy. I enjoy seeing them sitting together and listen to their cooing. Then comes hunting. Our 10 acres are posted no hunting, but that does nothing. This year the dove are all gone after the first days of season.

    Do you do any hay growing on your land? I've always liked the idea of investing in more land then i need, to turn it into hey side business

    • @TKCL
      @TKCL  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hay is a cutthroat business here, everybody grows it and sells it cheap. Honestly no money to make unless you have speciality horse hay.

    • @williamhustonrn6160
      @williamhustonrn6160 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@TKCL interesting, i always thought there was decent money in hay to be made and you can write off your tractors and such as business expense then.. ill have to look further into this idea...

    • @TKCL
      @TKCL  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I can write all my equipment off just by planting pine trees.

    • @williamhustonrn6160
      @williamhustonrn6160 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@TKCL really? interesting never heard of that.. what is the regulation by chance that allows this? Since the market is on a slow downturn im keeping my eyes on property in the near future. I am currently under contract to sell my house, just made no sense to keep it, it went up 275k in value in 2 years, so made no sense to keep it if i have the ability to move easily, so just moved into an apartment temporary until i find my next home site, was wanting to sell anyways to be closer to my new job, because my drive was 1h20mins to work 5 days a week.

    • @TKCL
      @TKCL  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Depends on your county regulations usually you need a certain amount of property and the rule use to be a minimum of 10 percent had to be planted in a valuable timer like slash pine or longleaf. Your technically a tree farmer then.

      What's being said is I use to work 60-80 hours a week doing shift work WHILE I had this property and developed it. It was beyond a full-time job doing both. I rarely slept and would sometimes be on the tractor at 3 am mowing.
