People will never know what a tonic this band were to those of us growing up in England in the 70;s ... you literally HAD to be there to get it! The music on the radio at that time and the general state of the nation ... jesus ... everything went from black and white to colour when the Pistols showed up ... the fucking lid came off!

For me it would have been the beginning of the 1988 new year. I may have been 14. I thought I'd seen and heard everything. And then God Save the Queen was played on a Canadian music channel called Much Music. Apparently I didn't know I was viewing everything in black and white. In comparison, everything else was lacking vibrancy.
I've never been the same since.

This video has the architect of the SEX PISTOLS' music in it.
    The great GLEN MATLOCK.
They showed their appreciation by kicking him out of the Band.
I think Rotten and Matlock clashed on a personal level.
Whereas, Rotten was very good mates with Vicious.
Vicious looked the part, he became the poster boy for Punk.
Luckily, I saw Glen play LIVE with The Pistols in October 1995 in Sydney.
In 2017, I saw Glen play at The Landsdowne Hotel in Sydney.
I stood a meter away from him, right in front of him.
The whole Band were bloody awesome, one of the most special gigs I've been to.
Glen said, the Drummer had just turned 18, it was OK, his mother knew he was out tonight.
Met him after the show, he was a TOP bloke.
We talked about the writing of "DID YOU NO WRONG" which is a personal favourite of mine.
    He was great.

Recall sitting in 9th grade science class and seeing a kid (Lars from Mars) wearing a Sex Pistols shirt. That was 1980. By then, I got a tape of British Punk (e.g. Damned, Sham69, etc.) and US Hardcore (Black Flag, Bad Brains etc.) that ended with Iggy and "I got a right". This tape was played and shared and copied until it literally disintegrated. Hundreds, and perhaps thousands, of kids were affected (infected!) by this music. This gave rise to just about everything worth listening to in rock music since about 1975.

I know. I've only recently realised that - obviously aside from Lydon's vocal delivery - it was actually Cook's drumming that made a lot of their tracks sound tougher/different/punk and not just more 70s hard rock. This particular track is probably one of their best though. Jones's solo near the end is also pure Johnny Thunders style string-bending/screaming punk - and then some.

Totally agree, Lydon did it so he could finance the album himself and so keep out of corporate clutches. If you own the recordings, as John did because he financed them, you just need a distribution deal from the record company and have more control over the product because 'you' own it, not the record company.
