My friend Tom sells amazing avocados and the lowest prices. He only has a few varieties but they are much better than any avocado you will find in the store and he ships them directly to you.

Paul, we finally found a variety you and I agree on. The Simmonds is top notch!
It's boring when you're not giving him a hard time. 😂
Right on!
@@FruitfulTreesneed info for your friend who sells avocado
Choquette tasted watery to me until i let them stay on the tree longer and then it tasted way better .Similar to my Simmonds.
Share with us how and when to "top work " an avocado tree. I too have a doni ,I'd like grath something else on it.
excellent vid Paul. Today I'll be eating Simmonds, Miguel, and a seedling
How did your seedling taste¿?
Lara Purple Simmonds 💜
I didnt know there where so may variety of Avocado. Love the content. Was gonna go to that nursery this weekend to shop for a mango tree. 😮
A miss labeled Simmons! Awww, that’s sick! Well, I sure ran into that problem too, so I totally understand.
Nurseries should be called out every time. We all have experenced this. And it's not right. It's stealing people's money and time. Thanks paul for calling out Excaliber.
I never knew there was so many varieties of avocados. The only thing I know is the ones I get in the grocery store they fit in the pollen my hand and they usually are delicious. I’ve never seen such big avocados. I seen big green ones in the store but I’ve never ate one. I think it’s terrible people put the wrong tag on the wrong tree that is very crooked just to sell them, I hope you’re the best with your avocado trees. You sure do have a lot of them you got a green thumb but all the avocados I ever ate. I love them never knew there were so many different varieties. Thanks for the video.🥰💕
Thank you for all this wonderful information and this video I learned so much about avocados and it inspired me to place an order of the variety box of avocados from sleepy lizard. I’m so excited about this to try the avocados and eventually buy some avocado trees. Thanks again Paul your videos are awesome.
I have a Donnie and I love it my neighbors too I’m not a big avocado eater I would never eat them outside of a dish I found when it ripens correctly on the tree it’s tasty I have a hass that doesn’t ripen completely God willing going to top work it I’m in Polk county what do you recommend
After watching this, I had to run outside and see what type of avocado tree I brought it was a BROGDON😅👍.
I have gotten mislabeled fruit trees before, It does't surprise me. It would be nice to grow more southern crops, But I don't want to move at my ag. Way to far N. for me, Man I love good avocados and mangoes. I will probably order a box. Thanks Paul.. hope U and yours are well brother, thanks for the review.. Mike
You didn’t plant the improved pollock Julian gave you?
Paul, have you tried the Ronnie? if so what does it taste like?
yes I have a treat, good flavor
Hello Paul I’m from Jamaica love avocado but the once in the store watery .i really want to purchase some nice buttery avocado like I remember back home but not sure which ones to get any recommendation ?
Can avocados only be grown in tropical climate?
The Mexican-type avocados are cold hardy enough where you can easily grow them in Zone 9. The Guatemalan and West Indian types are not as cold hardy and are more Zone 10+ trees.
We definitely have different taste buds, lol. I hate hass
Hello Paul in a previous video with Orlando Gardner I saw you guys mentioned something about making helping the pineapple pleasure tree be more productive. Can you give me some insight tips on that please? I’d appreciate it. Thank you. I am a follower.
Hi I don't remember but my pineapple pleasure did great this year
It is Hass as in Bass!!!!
Yes, research the history of hass, that was one crafty postman!
Hass, like "ass." Also, "show-ket," not "choe-kwet."
I have found every Simmonds I've tried to be watery.
are you sure its a simmonds
Question? When you first planted your Avacado trees. Did you amend the soil. I think you have a lot of sand,l
Like i do in Sebastian. My trees are growing VERY slow. I don’t even get 6 inches of growth per year. I did increase the fertilizer, when i talked to Julian,in homestead. Thanks for a response.
First Year sleeps, second year creeps, third year leaps.
Takes time and you need to create a large area around the tree with mulch and ground up leaves.
I didnt
@@sovereignsoul it's been 4.5 years. It's only a foot taller ,then when planted.
I’ll share what I’ve learned- for avocado on sand, mulch out to the drip line. I water x 15 min every day. Spray with fish emulsion a couple times per month
Do you know when to harvest Superhaas variety? First time it’s fruiting for me
my never ripened even
I have found the longer you allow the super Hass fruit to stay on the tree, the more evenly they ripen. When I pick them in November, there are hard/unripe areas in some of the fruit. But when I let them stay on the tree till December or later, they are more evenly ripened. The tree itself doesn't seem to be very happy in my yard. It has branch die-back issues and branches are sometimes without leaves for several months of the year. Inconsistent fruiting. I'm seriously considering top-working it to another variety with the A-flower type as I have a Brogdon (B-flower type) right next to it. I myself wouldn't recommend the super Hass variety. Maybe others have had better luck with it than I have.
What two trees are you keeping Paul?
All of Paul's trees have an uncertain future. Paul is like a woman with a closet full of shoes 👠
What happened to your Maria Black?
what do you mean did you see the video?
@@FruitfulTrees yes I saw the video and maybe I missed it but I don’t think Paul mentioned his Maria Black avocado variety, which he had enthusiastically talked about in a prior video.
Reportedly the first year's fruit off a tree is often disappointing with regards to both taste and quantity, but improves thereafter. So might be a good idea not to top graft or to top graft the entire tree(s)
donnie is just a bad variety
How do I identify what type of Avocado do I have?
look on line the variety and they will tell you
Does the oro negro typically produce well other than this year?
Horrible production
He’s always talking about how good this tree is though.
@@Jason-wx7ms yeah it's am amazing avocado but it hardly ever produces. Like he said try to taste different varieties. I fell in love with hall from one of my neighbors.
this year its not doing too well production wise. We will see
They have an established reputation for not being very productive. I have spoken with some Oro Negro tree owners that say after they've given it a hard prune, the following year it produced very well. But I haven't heard if the production was good the year following the productive year. My suspicion is that it reverted back to it's regular poor production habit. But that's just a suspicion.
Can I grow Avocados in SC?
IMO yes but you would need to take it in come cold weather. 🥰
@@AwakenedOne447 I would want to plant it in the ground
Central Florida the furthest I've seen avocado trees@@jerrybrown8605
Some varieties can tolerate temps down to the low 20's (Brogdon, Mexicola, Mexicola Grande and a few others) and still survive. But if the tree is going to be exposed consistently every winter to temps that low, or lower, I wouldn't count on having much, if any at all, fruit. And if the tree dies back to below the graft union, then the tree will start to grow whatever was seedling variety of the rootstock. I don't know the average winter temps in your area, but those are some things to consider regarding avocado tolerances to low temps.
@@mpc72367 Our average winters in SC run between 34 to 57 degrees.
