My grandma would always tell my cousin and I to not be out there messing with the rooster. She didn’t want it chasing us, which of course we thought that was so much fun. Well we would have to lift up a cast iron gate, of which ended coming straight down on my big toe. Yes we got in trouble, but her and grandpa had a good laugh. Love the journal covers and how to make the faux corners.

I love the rooster story. I feel sorry for her but oh my gosh so funny. I was flogged by a turkey as a child. Every time I would go outside he would run me down. My mom said enough is enough, the next time it happened she just shot it and cooked it for dinner. Lol. Don't mess with mommas babies. Lol. So I really do feel and understand her. Dumplins for dinner. Lol. I love the corners protectors. Great idea. Thank you for your stories and your craft. God bless.

We also had a rooster a long time ago. We named him Garfield. I would collect eggs with a garbage can lid as a shield because of that darn thing. I can’t image if that darn thing would have got loose. I do miss his crowing, but collecting eggs became easier when we finally sent him on his way.
I’ve also done journal using lace and fabric on the seams. Just a very nice finish Edith! Thank you for sharing.

We had chickens when the kids were young. My youngest son was 6 years old, and our rooster did not like him and would chase him all over the yard, Anthony would scream bloody murder. We also had domestic geese, and the one female didn't like Anthony either, and she would flog him every chance she could. My poor son, I can still see him running around the yard screaming. I kept a broom on the side porch, and every time I heard him screaming, I ran out with the broom chasing the rooster or the goose away from Anthony.. He still laughs about it to this day, and he's 33 now. 🙂❤️

    Good morning E 💕
Love to see this project, I am addicted to scrapbook paper. 😍 Such a funny story about the rooster, we had chickens years ago and I got tired of going out to the barn in the blowing snow to feed them. They would try and jump on my shoulder and head and I didn't like that. So first spring I asked my Amish neighbor is they wanted them and they got a good home. 👍
I hope you got your radiator fixed to you can get the lawn mowed, ours is growing fast. Thanks for the share and I hope you have a beautiful day. Hugs! 🤗

When we had our farm we had a farm store and sold eggs, meats, etc. I gathered the eggs daily. One rainy day, I came out of the coop with an egg bucket full of eggs and there he was, staring at me and started running towards me…so….I lifted by leg with my barn boots on to give him a good swift kick and down I went…in the barnyard…in the mud! Needless to say the eggs for that day were “scrambled”. I had had it…I found my hubby and said “GET HIM OUTTA HERE”. Never saw him (the rooster..that is..lol) after that day.

When I was about 8 or 9 years old, a neighbor gave me a pair of Bantum chickens. The were so pretty. The rooster looked like a regular rooster with the coloring, and the hen was pure black. I loved my "Banties". Anyway, my dad went to the feed store and got some eggs and put them under my little hen. Well she sat on the eggs and hatched them out. When they hatched, the chick's were almost the same size as her. Turns out Dad had gotten 2 turkey eggs. Those turkeys followed my little hen all around just like she was their momma. It was so cute. Especially when they were full-grown. 😅

Love the corner treatments. Show the folding again on another video. Give us warning that you are going to demonstrate it so we can have a paper square ready to "fold along with E". Making these journal covers by theme would be a great way to embellish for a birthday...use it to collect cards and pics from the party. Or, a Christmas one to use to save the holiday cards received that year. They could be decorated so cute and still be a practical use of time, paper and embellishing supplies. They are useful just as folios even without sewing in pages and signatures. Still watching a d being inspired from Texas.

About 25 years ago we had a beautiful rooster. Roosters are my favorite farm animal. I had went out to the garden to fix a fence. Well, he decided that he was going to challenge me. All of a sudden he lunged at me with spurs showing. All I had in my hand was a plastic cup and a pair of pliers. I ran to the back of he house and called my son to help me. Here was a fan rake next to the house. I got the rake and started back to the garden. He decided to come back with fury. About the time he come toward me, I broadcast hit him with rake. He rolled over a few times. He got up and went the other way. From then on when I picked up that rake he started hollering and went the other way. I loved him but he wasn't going to cut me. I collect roosters as a hobby.

I grew up on a farm, and we had a mean, vicious rooster. He would chase me and Mama every time we were outside. One day, Daddy was working on the pump. It was hot, and Daddy was tired. The rooster made the mistake of jumping on daddy and spurring him several times before daddy could even move. Daddy walked with a big hickory cane. Daddy knocked the rooster out, picked him up, and wrung his neck. He called me to tell Mama to start a huge pot of water because he killed the rooster. We plucked him, and Daddy dressed him out. We had a big pot of chicken and dumplings for supper. He was mean, but he sure did taste good! Mama cooked him in the pressure cooker, but if you have an instapot, it's the same difference. I vote for putting that mean thing in a pot of dumplings or rice! I Love these ideas and will use my scrapbook paper in my journals more. Thank you! ❤

Love the rooster story!!!! You asked for chicken-rooster stories, so I will share. We have a horse 🐴called Daisy and the farm next door has a rooster🐓named Sunshine. Each morning at feeding time, Sunshine comes strutting up to the feedlot to join Daisy for breakfast. Sometimes Daisy puts on a show and stomps her feet all around rooster acting like she is going to step on him. At first, we were quite concerned she actually might, but Rooster Sunshine seems to know she will not. They happily eat their breakfast together...she a big horse and small rooster Sunshine by her side. When Daisy isn't at the feeding lot, rooster will call and call for her to come join him and sometimes she comes out of the pasture to join him for breakfast. Though a very unmatched pair, they are great friends and thankfully rooster minds his manners!🐓🐎

Many years ago we had two ducks,( Donald and daisy), then we where given two geese,(Frank and Jessie) they used to sleep outside my bedroom window, we had a small home on a beautiful piece of land and my husband made a really cute place for them to live, but during the day we let them run free! Every time anyone came to make a delivery the geese would honk and chase them biting at their ankles. I remember hearing my name being yelled out or Lady can you please come and get your geese!! So I put bells on them so I could hear them running and I knew someone was coming up the driveway! They actually minded me and ran home if called them. no cell phones in those days! It was really funny, not for them but for me!!

I had some of the sweetest roosters, but there is always one in the bunch who thinks he is the bouncer and does not want anyone around that steals his girls attention away from him. When I was a little girl I loved gathering the eggs for my mama. One Saturday I went to the coop and gathered as usual and as soon as I stepped out from the “egg laying house”, that’s what I called it, the rooster attacked me, pecking and trying to get me with his spurs. I’m screaming for my mama and daddy, they came running. Daddy got me out of the coop and they took me inside to clean me up. The next day was Sunday, we went to church and came home and we had chicken and dumplings and dressing, which was strange because that was normally a part of a holiday meal. I asked my mama and daddy where the rooster was and they told me not to worry about it that he wouldn’t bother me anymore. I figured out real fast where the chicken came from and I smiled the whole time I was eating lunch that Sunday.

But eventually we couldn't keep him cause my kids couldn't go out to play. My husband gave him away to a friend who had special roosters and the mean rooster would go after the other, so the man got upset and decided to throw a ax at it and the mean rooster ran and he ended hitting his special rooster!

I'm enjoying listening to your lovely and familiar accent. Years ago, I married a man from Florida (we were both in the Air Force and well, you know how that goes) Then came the day I met his family...this was quite a revelation for this Los Angeles-born "Valley Girl." Chicken Stories: When he was small, one of "Momma's" roosters spurred him. He vividly remembered Momma taking one look at him, heading inside, grabbing the rooster, and wringing its neck. He also told me about his teenage years of entering the chicken coop at oh-dark-thirty grabbing the chickens by their feet to pack them up. Hearing, when you grab them, they shit all over you...Honestly, I'm surprised I didn't run screaming all the way back to Los Angeles. LOL.
We attended a "Decoration Day" one year and I watched his paternal grandmother "Big Momma" spit tobacco juice into a Folger's coffee can.
Your accent sounds so familiar to me. Then I scrolled down and noticed you are also in Alabama. Both sides of his family moved from Northern Alabama (Wedowee in Randolph County) to Florida in the 1950s.

My grandma always said that a rooster shouldn't be mean and is they become that way then she made chicken stew out of them and got a new rooster. They aren't really necessary unless you want babies or if < like her> you let them loose in the farm yard to scratch and the hens need protection.

And I didn't mind the chickens following us or nothing they were picking up bugs which was great. when we had this one rooster hey didn't follow the lawn mowers he would attack the lawnmower with you on it and while it was running. There were so many times that that rooster almost got ran over. He got me man attacked a couple of little kids so I told my husband get rid of him. He did and we had no more troubles with any roosters

Tell Alysha that we had a rooster who was mean. He used to chase me and the kids until one day Richard was outside. He happened to have his steel toed boots on. The rooster started to chase him which was unusual. He turned around and went after the rooster with a couple of good kicks, but he continued to chase the rooster round the house. The rooster was so shocked that Richard was chasing him he never did it again to anyone.

My uncle had a mean rooster too. That rooster would sometimes sink his spurs into my uncles leg. He did that once too often. Rooster stew anyone?

Whe I was young my grandma had plenty of chickens and my cousins and I took turns feeding them. Well, I didn't care for that old big red rooster. He always looked like he didn't like me either! One day, when I was particularly afraid to feed the chickens because for some reason I kept thinking he's going to get me today. Well, grandma wouldn't let out of my duties that day and I went on out there. Guess what! That old rooster pecked me, broke my skin! So I hear you! That is no fun!

I wish you could show how you put signatures in this journal. Or how many pages would work?

My Grandfather nearly strangled one to death. That rooster never tried to flog him ever again. 😅. He thought he killed it. Told my dad when he got home he needed to take care of the rooster. Low and behold it was still alive. Don't mess with an old arthritic farmer. I Miss my Granddad

When I was a child my grandfather had chickens that were loose in the yard. Every time I went outside to play those mean chickens would chase me. In the house my grandfather had parkeets that were loose in the house they would fly on you and bite you. I’m deathly afraid of birds because of this.
