  • As part of Fast Bikes magazine’s flagship Ultimate Sportsbike test this year, we've been testing the 2020 HONDA CBR1000RR-R FIREBLADE SP on the dyno, on the road and on the track.
In this special edition, we’ve taken NINE of the very best sportsbikes and clocked a serious amount of miles, spun a serious amount of laps and wolfed down way more Big Macs than is advisable to establish the best sportsbike of 2020.
On the road, each bike has been ranked in terms of its comfort and usability, as well as its brakes, the effectiveness of its tech and its overall character, after taking each of the bikes on every kind of road possible, from smooth fast B-roads, to bumpy farm tracks, to motorways, to high streets.
On track, Dangerous Bruce has analysed all of the bikes’ drive, agility, stability, feel, tech and brakes, because we know that these bikes are exactly the type of thing that you are going to take on track, be it at a trackday or race meeting.

I think the best bang for the buck would be GSXR 1000R, way cheaper than all the ones on the list with a very competitive power. Also the parts are easy to come by, so maybe just add in some costs for ECU flashing and aftermarket mods and you have the same featured bike as the rest of the expensive ones.

The peaky engine is probably fantastic on the track. You'll just need to shift a little more to keep it in the powerband.
I'm supposed to take delivery of one in September across the pond. Wish they added VTEC or similar variable cam timing to broaden the powerband, but I'll still enjoy it.

    • @marcusjr80

Peaky engine is fine, you just gotta rev the shit out of it. The problem is the super tall gearing. Just change the sprockets and it would be a freaking beast on the track, the midrange would probably improve too.

It is very difficult to have all bikes with same power, it depends on clearances between components and the mileage of the engine, when new it has lower power, increasing hp till you reach 10.000 miles, then hp will decrease a bit.
Chsin orings are tight, bearings are not broken in, in a new bike there a lot of things that can absorb energy.
It would be intresting to compare all bikes with same mileage and engine break in... if that cbr has 1000 miles and has been tested since new by msny journalist, it has perhaps a bad break in... or if it is abdolutely mew can result in a power loss..
This dyno has electromagnetic brake or is an inertial one?
If inertial, csrbon wheels can affect very much the result...
