1 pedal driving only took a day to get used to and it's a much nicer than constantly switching from the accelerator to the brake, especially in stop and go traffic.
I've been driving a Model Y LR for Uber and it has done even better than I was expecting when all the spreadsheets were done. Some things you aren't considering (granted, this can definitely vary by area): it is a conversation starter and a TIP MACHINE. You roll up in this and the smiles and looks on people's faces is fantastic, you haven't even driven them anywhere and they're happy. Think that's happening in an Accord, Prius, or Bolt? Nope, don't think so. Fire up Caraoke for the group you just picked up for the club? Near guaranteed tip. Turn the screen over to the Shotgun Passenger, "Want to DJ?" - near guaranteed tip. Second, don't complain about efficiency when you're refusing to do something that helps it tremendously. Seriously, I got used to it in a few hours and it's fantastic. I rarely ever touch the brake (no brake jobs, probably ever? TYVM). It's also a ton smoother ride than the constant power on, power off, power on, power off of a gas engine. Passengers always talk about how smooth it is. Autopilot is also god's gift to driving frustration-free in backed up traffic. Finally, I like it that something is FORCING me to take a break. I will get crazy and just keep going and going and wipe myself out. Taking 20-30 minutes of a break to get up, stretch, walk around while I charge has helped a ton. There's no way in hell you're killing your profitability taking a break, just have a plan. Pay attention to the KW/hr rating of the Supercharger, if you don't have time, make sure it is a 250 KW one and not an older 150, it makes a difference. Love your content, keep at it, just picked up a Vantrue N5 Amazon had $100 off based on your breakdown (that I wish I would have found before I got a Nextbase).
10:35 they do. Front center console has one and rear side of the vehicle. Any questions you have, toss them my way. I’ve owned my model Y since 2021. But it’s true. Regenerative braking is amazing. Never braked since.
I've been driving a Bolt for rideshare for over a year and a half. Regenerative braking is literally one of my favorite features of the car. At first I thought it was nuts too. Now I hate driving a car without it. It's fantastic. Keep trying it. Edit: And I charge my car at home on a level 2 charger. Those same 786 miles you drove would only cost me maybe $21 at my current electric rates and my average efficiency. That money adds up.
@@IndigoBassNotes The charger came with the car and the installation for the plug at my house was covered by my electric company. So free. There are quite a few incentives around for EVs still, just have to look.
@@Driver_Eddie For how I drive in my market, I would be able to get easily 250 miles on a 100% charge. I usually only charge to 90% to save the battery. I rarely drive more than 200 miles in a 8 or 9 hours day. But that's just me. I have the larger Bolt EUV also for reference. I had a regular Bolt before this and that got even slightly better range. For right now, I would never buy an EV if I had to rely on public chargers. Even charging at level 1 (regular 110v outlet) is more appealing than public charging even though it is crazy slow. The cost of public is just not justified.
Whether to rent or buy is a tough question. When you rent, you have zero maintenance cost. It also doesn't matter how many miles you put on the car. Then you get newer model car. Pushing your car 8,10,12 hrs daily takes a toll on your car. Imagine doing 200-300 miles per day, and not necessarily highway miles, that is some serious abuse of a machine. Also if you're using your own car, your personal insurance is not enough. You pay extra for using the car for uber. Anytime your personal car is in the shop, you're not earning. But it it's a rental, you get another car free of charge. If you put up to 70K miles on your car in one year, you're gonna need new set of tires. That is extra cost. Ultimately though, one has sit down and really crunch the numbers.
All I can think of while watching this was the Seinfeld scene. "You know how to take the reservation, you just don't know how to HOLD the reservation, which is actually key in the whole reservation taking process" 😂
I kinda came to the same conclusions you did after looking into rentals, I also realized that you'd probably be better off just financing a car because at least it'd be cheaper and the car would be yours. Renting is something I'd only recommend for short term if you really need a car and have terrible credit
Just buy one used for like 20k - e.g. New Corolla Money. Drivetrain warranty is 8 years on a Tesla, where as Corolla only gets 3 years basic warranty only.
You dont have to charge to 80 you can minimize your time charging, you don’t necessarily need to take care of the battery and make sure you tell the care you’re going to the charger
I’ll tell you what, after driving a Tesla for Uber for over a month now, not having to use the brake pedal ever is a godsend, especially not having to hold it through every red light. My ankle hurts much much less than it used to by not having to move it back and forth all day and again, from holding it down at lights.
As bad as Uber rentals are, Lyft is even worse. I've heard Lyft pays you less if you are on the rental program and driving a rental from Hertz. It's something like 17% less pay for fares on Lyft.
interesting conclusion on 1 pedal driving, i rented a tesla to try it out a while ago and it took me like an hour to get used to it then it was second nature, much easier than switching pedals all the time imo
If the only perk is priority to swap vehicles then fuck no. We can see how much reservations mean to Hertz from the beginning of this video, so I wouldn't trust that "priority".
They have different levels of insurance coverage, liability, property damage, etc. I personally think that it’s worth getting just the CDW especially if you’re getting into a Tesla. As long as you’re not letting other people drive and you’re not driving drunk, driving recklessly, you’re basically covered for any damages to the Tesla while you’re in it. I’ve run over low parking curbs and islands because I was rushing or coming out of a steep driveway and bottoming out. I can only imagine what kind of undercarriage/battery cover damage that would do to a Model 3 while doing gig work. Plus you’d be covered if someone hits your car while you’re driving or if it’s vandalized while it’s parked. It’s pretty expensive but trust me, body shop costs are about 3X to 5X more expensive with a Tesla than with a regular gas car. The CDW daily cost is expensive but it’ll give you peace of mind to enjoy the rental while you have it. Plus it’s a complete write off from your earnings. I say go for just the CDW. If you’re not going to take any coverage, make sure you photograph every part of the car’s exterior and interior. Make sure every little scratch or damage is noted on your contract before you drive off. I’ve seen rental agents compare your original contract and charge you for damages when you turn it in even if they were preexisting conditions but weren’t noted on the contract. Regarding credit cards that cover rental cars, I would seriously look at what kind of coverage your card issuer actually provides. I’ll say this much: unless you’re paying an annual fee of several hundred dollars and your card gets you into luxury airport lounges, it’s probably very basic coverage or coverage with a lot of conditions and exclusions. Pretty sure one of the exclusions is using the rental car for gig work/Ridesharing. Amex Platinum, Chase Sapphire Reserve, Capital One Venture X. Really appreciate how you break down your earnings and hourly rates. Would be great to estimate what your taxes would be after all the expenses, like if you just took that one week’s earnings and then deductions and estimated taxes. Also would be great if you could talk about how you manage dead miles with apps like Stride etc. Great video, thanks for posting!
You need to redo the tesla test because you are charging the car wrong. First, only drive under "chill" mode. It forces the car to go slower but it won't give your passengers whiplash. It will increase your range a little. Charge the car only 50% for rideshare. You will spend 6 minutes. Your range will probably be about 130 miles which is more than enough. Switch from percentage to miles by tapping on the battery icon on the top. Charge when you get down to 50 miles. In general, you will make more money in popular areas starting at 3:30am to 10am. Take a 6 hour break and finish your day. You can pick and choose your rides or you can pick all your rides as you get them. If you have a higher acceptance rate, you get access to more rides. If you pick and choose, I found you wait more for a request. Try this test again as I said charge up to 50% in your Tesla with chill mode setting, and don't be choosey on your rides. You will see a huge difference in earnings.
I rented a Tesla Model Y from Hertz in the UK £359 per week. Absolutely loved the car. Passengers LOVE Tesla - almost automatic 5* ratings. Had to return car to Hertz, they have stopped renting PCO Tesla cars 😭😭😭
i was actually just reading about how Hertz is scaling their Tesla rentals back bc it is so expensive to maintain bc of how much uber drivers drive haha excellent point about the passengers liking the car, i forgot to include that
Also, time spent charging is doing absolutely nothing to negatively affect my bottom line. From 20 to 80 percent is 15 to 20 mins, just about the amount of time I like to take for a break after four or five hours anyway. I charge once at the beginning of my shift, then once more when I break and it’s seamless for me 👍 Edit: I have never seen charging times like the ones you show, I’ve used about five different stations so far.
“But the reservation keeps the car here. That’s why you have the reservations.” “I know why we have reservations.” “I don’t think you do. If you did, I’d have a car. See, you know how to take the reservation, you just don’t know how to HOLD the reservation. And that’s really the most important part.”
here is my take on it: Many users prefer regenerative braking once they get used to it Home charging is significantly cheaper than public charging Renting may not be cost-effective compared to buying or leasing Tesla rentals are in high demand and often unavailable Passengers generally enjoy riding in Teslas, potentially leading to better tips Charging times vary greatly depending on the charger type used Some users report much faster charging times than shown in the video Insurance coverage for rideshare driving needs to be double-checked One-pedal driving is divisive - some love it, others dislike it Taking breaks during charging can be beneficial for drivers Uber's rental programs may pay drivers less than when using their own vehicle Maintenance costs are lower for electric vehicles Some users suggest buying a used EV instead of renting Autopilot is praised for reducing driver fatigue Renting might make sense for short-term needs or those with bad credit Some commenters criticize the video for lack of knowledge about Tesla features
Only way to see profit is to do it full-time not 20hrs a week, but i understand most people do it on the side. If you do it full-time you'll have no problem!
Im currently driving one I really like the vehicle at first I hated it but most people love when I pick them up in a Tesla Im also able to do comfort and premier rides which is more money than what you can make doing uber x in a civic , I spend around $25 a day to charge the car twice a day since I don’t have the long ranger model 3 I mostly charge the car during the night since I’m a night shift drivers and It only take more no more than 25 min to charge it to 80% .
I never have my foot on the brake on my Tesla I keep a little bit of pressure on the gas pedal when I'm coming up to a light most of the time I'm using full self-driving doing Uber but I never put my foot on the brake unless somebody just stops blatantly right in front of me I have a 110,000 on mine now and I haven't done a damn thing to it except change the tires
I’m pretty sure he was covered by insurance the whole time, because Uber covers you when you’re on the way to the rider and during the trip. The rest of the time would be personal use and covered by the credit card company that he paid for the rental with.
I reserved a Tesla and took the 40 min. Uber that they paid for to get to the rental place and the guy literally laughed at me that I was expecting for him to have a car available. He said he had a list of 150 people waiting for a Tesla for Uber. Thanks Uber. Than I had to pay for the 40 min. Uber to get back home.
10:34 i always find it funny when people talk silicon valley or tech companies as "cali people" (or something along those lines) because as someone from the bay area i grew up in an envoinment that couldnt feel further from silicon valley 😭
I kinda knew it wasnt worth it using this simple reasoning; Everything Uber offers you as a driver is to Uber's benefit NOT the driver's. Most companies do this " New & Improved !" means we found a way to squeeze a few more pennies out of you . Anything Uber is repetedly pushing is not because they are kind and have big hearts.
so true and so sad how that is what we expect out of them now. it really is anything they are doing, my thought is well that's not going to help drivers ha
When I rented a tesla for uber I paid about 2400 a month bought a tesla paying half that. Ps went from hertz standards rwd 263 range. To long range awd 330 range
Also when I charge if I'm actually working and I'm low on charge let's see if I went to a different city I might put in about 10 minutes worth and then get about 80 Mi or something like that and then hopefully I'll get a ride taking me back towards the charger and not only that does not take 60 Minutes to charge a car mine takes 15 or 20 minutes you got to go through like a 250 watt kilowatt
With home charging you would've probably spent only 40$ on charging, or even less depending where you live. So like half. Still obviously doesn't offset the time charging, but gets you halfway there. The charging you can also optimize a bit to always be on the fastest part of the curve. E.g. always charge from 5-10% to maximum of around 50-60%. Charge less, more often. Obviously this also doesn't work if you have to drive a lot to the chargers, but when the chargers are enroute, this is the way to get the most energy in the fastest, thus spend the least time charging. Also... Buy a used Model 3 for 20k instead. 😂
@@Driver_Eddie Do it and milk it :P Tesla videos done at least somewhat right or with a particular view on things - get a lot of view. Milk those whoopie cushions!
were you charging at the slowest charging stations ever? I charge every morning at the superchargers and going from under 20% to 80% it took 15-20 minutes
If it costs 300 dollars per week to rent a Tesla, why not lease one directly from Tesla. They'll give you a 7500 dollar federal tax credit (granted, they'll claw this back with higher interest rates, and you can't buyout a Tesla lease). Did some rough calculations, you'll probably pay around 20k over the 36 months, which is a lot better than 19k a year renting? Only issue I could see is if Uber doesn't allow this, or you drive significantly over the allotted mileage per year (up to 15000 miles).
Bro is saying he doesn't make anything while holding a Starbucks. The $7 coffees really gotta stop if you are $ conscious.I bought a barista express for $500 its lasted 8 years and a latte costs less than $1
what a terrible take on regen braking. It makes driving much easier when you only need to modulate one pedal. I grew up driving stick and love how little effort is needed to take the tesla out.
Lmfao it costs me literally $13 to fill up my entire battery….the issue is in your case is that you are using a super charger and to put it SIMPLY, using a supercharger the way you are, is actually how you destroy the battery. So you end up paying for destroying the battery and then you are paying literally 4 times as much for charging it since it’s a quick service….so unless youre getting the level 2 charger for your home, good luck making money with this other than that….i really dont get why yall are renting a tesla when its battery lasts 300k-500k miles and the car itself therefore literally lasts just as much as there is no engine and there are no oil changes….also….it cant drive itself….so if you are an Uber driver….you can literally have the car do the job for you but in the end youre right, using a supercharger is the dumbest way to charge your tesla. It’s literally the dumbest and defeats the purpose on every level for the reasons explained so yeah I would definitely not Rent to Uber thats so dumb lol.
Plus you're using a a standard range way different than a long range I charge once a day at home and drive all day if I want to drive even longer I might put a little bit into it
Do you think because you were driving a new Tesla that's why you made the money you did?? Those driving newer cars earn more?? I drive a 2018 Toyota Corolla that's in beautiful shape. Uber might of worn this car down but they are not getting my next vehicle!
So your knees are fine with constantly having to press the break pedal, but lightly keeping your foot on the gas pedal to drive is a problem... ok. You know, they still sell cell phones with physical buttons on them, right?
Right foot always hurts after a while. At least with a manual. I did 500km + in one day through my whole country to find a part this week, it's best to just engine break for long trips.
Eddie - i disagree w/ ur take one the regen driving… If you drove ur TSLA like normal - u would get use to it…. PLUS - ur possibly making this video for someone who will use TSLA as their ride-share vehicle.
Well he's not wrong. The manufacturing of ev batteries produces greenhouse gases. When you charge your ev you contribute to gasses. Your tires, brakes and cooling system produces gases. So yes you are giving it gas.. not the car but the air around you. 😂
Anyone who doesnt like one pedal driving is simply an idiot or doing it for the clicks. One pedal driving is so much easier. Push it to go faster and let it come up to slow down. My 90 year old father in law got it in 1 minute. Also you will be out of a uber job soon once robotaxi comes out.
you are giving numbers for just three days, not a week, if in three days you made a thousand, weekly you can earn 2k 2,5k easily, those are not bad numbers
i see you have never driven for uber. the earnings are not linear. Guessing you are a DJ so think of it like this - if you earn 1k playing on Friday and Saturday night, that doesn't mean you are going to earn that if you decide to work Monday and Tuesday bc no bars/clubs will pay a weekend rate on a weekday. same thing for uber. less demand on the other days equals way less pay
There's a simple solution to charging. If you're driving 14 to 12 hours a day, you're going to have to eat sometime. Charge well you're eating. It's a no-brainer. And as far as the one pedal driving goes. Just turn it off like you did. Stop complaining. The moral of the story dude, one day you're going to have to drive an electric vehicle. There's no way around it. You might as well live to love it.
Everything in nature has a reason. Two sexs, reason : Procreation. You can find a reason for everything with every living creature. If no reason evolution removes it. Edit: I have never seen charging times like the ones you show, I’ve used about five different stations so far.
“But the reservation keeps the car here. That’s why you have the reservations.”
“I know why we have reservations.”
“I don’t think you do.
If you did, I’d have a car. See, you know how to take the reservation, you just don’t know how to HOLD the reservation. And that’s really the most important part.”
here is my take on it: Many users prefer regenerative braking once they get used to it
Home charging is significantly cheaper than public charging
Renting may not be cost-effective compared to buying or leasing
Tesla rentals are in high demand and often unavailable
Passengers generally enjoy riding in Teslas, potentially leading to better tips
Charging times vary greatly depending on the charger type used
Some users report much faster charging times than shown in the video
Insurance coverage for rideshare driving needs to be double-checked
One-pedal driving is divisive - some love it, others dislike it
Taking breaks during charging can be beneficial for drivers
Uber's rental programs may pay drivers less than when using their own vehicle
Maintenance costs are lower for electric vehicles
Some users suggest buying a used EV instead of renting
Autopilot is praised for reducing driver fatigue
Renting might make sense for short-term needs or those with bad credit
Some commenters criticize the video for lack of knowledge about Tesla features
Only way to see profit is to do it full-time not 20hrs a week, but i understand most people do it on the side. If you do it full-time you'll have no problem!
$450 a week? You might as well buy a car and pay the car note at those prices!
under-rated video, excellent job!
THIS GUY REMINDS ME OF SQUINTS FROM THE SANDLOT MOVIE 😂
Hey, Do you recommend buying an Tesla to do Uber instead of renting?
Seriously though, regen is very easy to learn and turning it off directly impacts your earning.
What's a tip? I might get two a day. I actually got a $.01 tip once. Mind-blowing.
daaaammnnn, thats more disrespectful than no tip at all haha
You better double check with your insurance company to make sure you are covered when using a vehicle specifically for work.
I’m pretty sure he was covered by insurance the whole time, because Uber covers you when you’re on the way to the rider and during the trip. The rest of the time would be personal use and covered by the credit card company that he paid for the rental with.
Had the same issues with Hertz. I rented a car, said it was available. I go there and they told me they don’t even do Uber rentals!!!
10:34 i always find it funny when people talk silicon valley or tech companies as "cali people" (or something along those lines) because as someone from the bay area i grew up in an envoinment that couldnt feel further from silicon valley 😭
haha didn't mean to lump you in !
I kinda knew it wasnt worth it using this simple reasoning;
Everything Uber offers you as a driver is to Uber's benefit NOT the driver's.
You are looking at it wrong. You don't hold down the gas, you know when to let go so that you stop at the right place when you need to.
my weak ankles aren't cut out for that life haha
I can't believe this guy doesn't understand how awesome regenerative braking is.
Charging you gotta route to chargers you need to so the baterry conditions itsself to charge 0 to 80 is about 30 minutes
Thank you for the information. I'm not renting an EV it's not worthy.
When I rented a tesla for uber I paid about 2400 a month bought a tesla paying half that. Ps went from hertz standards rwd 263 range. To long range awd 330 range
This is great, thanks!👍🏾
enable chill mode, for easier and smoother acceleration/cruizing.
honestly... the cheaper these used Tesla's get there's a little voice in my head telling me to get one haha
@@Driver_Eddie Do it and milk it :P Tesla videos done at least somewhat right or with a particular view on things - get a lot of view. Milk those whoopie cushions!
Only do tesla in cities with at least 300,000 or more population
First come first serve?!?! Then what tf is the reservation for ??!??
I’m currently sitting in a Autzu rental it’s $7 an hour for the car when in my normal car I’d earn $33 an hour, so it’s not horrible so far
$7/hour for a Tesla? I'd consider paying that in San Francisco
were you charging at the slowest charging stations ever? I charge every morning at the superchargers and going from under 20% to 80% it took 15-20 minutes
I've learned that going from 80% to 100% is slower, but as an uber driver, I wanted to make sure I had full range before a shift
Thank you, you saved me....!
750 miles a week is 36,000 miles a year. That means you can't lease to Uber.
I always see a huge increase in tips with a Tesla
Bro is saying he doesn't make anything while holding a Starbucks. The $7 coffees really gotta stop if you are $ conscious.I bought a barista express for $500 its lasted 8 years and a latte costs less than $1
I'm thinking that personal insurance or credit card may have a stipulation that using a car for other than personal use not covered.
He only worked 22 hours what is he talking about
Something it everywhere like this ! I live in New Jersey Paramus same situation!
what a terrible take on regen braking. It makes driving much easier when you only need to modulate one pedal. I grew up driving stick and love how little effort is needed to take the tesla out.
I dont know but some guys said they made more then 1000$ a day and around 26.000$ a month with uber . .you guys thinck they lie ?
SAD TO SAY THIS, BUT I DONT DO UBER DRIVING BUT UBER EATS AND THE BEST WEEK I HAVE HAD WAS $410 WITH 70 HOURS OF ONLINE TIME FOR MY AREA
Its 100% not worth it. I rented from hertz about 3 months and it was a challenge to make any money.
i believe it... i kept thinking if I was working on a regular week it wouldve been brutal
Can rent Uber ready car for less than 150 USD all inclusive from private owners on Facebook marketplace or Craigslist/Gumtree in Australia anyway
Use Avis way better and hertz is bad they report cars stolen even though it’s not
You wouldn't have needed to charge so much if you had lrft the regenerative braking on!
They should be sued this is such a headache and false advertisement
So your knees are fine with constantly having to press the break pedal, but lightly keeping your foot on the gas pedal to drive is a problem... ok. You know, they still sell cell phones with physical buttons on them, right?
yes. the same way it is easier to walk for 1 hour than it is to stand on your tip toes for 1 hour.
Right foot always hurts after a while. At least with a manual. I did 500km + in one day through my whole country to find a part this week, it's best to just engine break for long trips.
$380 on one day
def not typical
Was that Paltemos next to hertz? If so that place I amazing you gotta try it
Eddie - i disagree w/ ur take one the regen driving…
If you drove ur TSLA like normal - u would get use to it…. PLUS - ur possibly making this video for someone who will use TSLA as their ride-share vehicle.
Just found your videos ! Awesome !!! I just started driving. You are doing a great job love your commentary!:)
Also I noticed that you were at a non Tesla charger those things are super slow
Did he say gas pedal about an EV? This video is hilarious.
Thank you for your kind and insightful input
@@Driver_Eddie nice autogenerated reply. doing it for the clicks it is.
Its "The Game"
Makes story short .. Use your personal car
you are giving numbers for just three days, not a week, if in three days you made a thousand, weekly you can earn 2k 2,5k easily, those are not bad numbers
i see you have never driven for uber. the earnings are not linear.
Oh yes I have in the past, but three days still not a week though 😉
maybe watch a video instead of making one without any knowledge of the vehicle.
Hi
👋
*Is Elon used Uber??*
Avis has Tesla
Thanks for calling out the nonsense of 1 pedal driving
There's a simple solution to charging. If you're driving 14 to 12 hours a day, you're going to have to eat sometime. Charge well you're eating. It's a no-brainer. And as far as the one pedal driving goes. Just turn it off like you did. Stop complaining. The moral of the story dude, one day you're going to have to drive an electric vehicle. There's no way around it. You might as well live to love it.
Fuck that i was on the gig for 0 years and it was shit lol.
0 years lol?
DEI hires. That’s all you need to know about Hertz.
No its not worth it lol the tesla charge bill is a bitch lol i rather rent the other ev cars
Uber is trash
honestly the more i did this project that's all i could see
Am I the only one thinks that Eddie is super hot?😍😍😍
Everything in nature has a reason.
Two sexs, reason : Procreation.
You can find a reason for everything with every living creature.
If no reason evolution removes it.
What it the reason homosexual people exist ?
Not hating , its a real question.
What practical fuction does a gay person serve in human biology ?
I asked this respectfully to many , no answers yet.
A mystery.
