We struggled finding solid goaltending for over a decade after Khabibulin left in 2005. Bishop was decent but WAY too fragile. Vasilevskiy is the hockey gods finally rewarding us for our patience and the kid is phenomenal. Already setting franchise records, a Vezina winner and Stanley Cup champion and he's only 26.

I'll never forget how Vasilevskiy played every single second of our playoff run, and how he got his first playoff shutout when we needed him the most. However, I always have to acknowledge Joonas Korpisalo of the Columbus Blue Jackets. There is absolutely no way that first game would have gone to five overtime periods if it weren't for him. Making over 80 saves in one game is ridiculous.
Don't forget (because it got lost in the shuffle given Korpisalo's 85 saves) that Vasy had 61 of his own that night

Played every min in the play-in and playoffs and is now a Champ. MVP
Just effing insane with the legs/pillows. Demoralizing the shooters. He reads the players so well, I can almost see him staring at their hips. So very hard to beat him up high consistently. It's like a random chance event. He doesn't flop and roll like Hasek or come out as far as Roy often did, he has created his own style. Also, gotten much better at playing the puck. He frequently stops what would be a 2 on 1 d forecheck by reversing the play behind the net. He can't make those super long passes like Bishop did but he doesn't cost us those goals either.

Vasy easily could've been named the Conn Smythe winner instead of Hedman. Half the Lightning's roster played well enough to have been a deserving winner of it and Vasy was right up there with Hedman.

@@r3dshow10 no. It's like people look at the last 2 years in Tampa and forget his first 3. He was baptised in fire in the playoffs against the eventual back to back cup champions in Pittsburgh, playing without a team save Boyle, and almost stole that series.
He was VERY well established as clutch LONG before the lighting started playing in front of him like they should

Best goalie in the league today, yes, even better than your team’s goalie! He’s got a Vezina, could have had a second straight one this year, but he got a decent consolation prize in the Stanley freakin’ Cup! He almost got the Conn Smythe, too!

И этот парень, обладатель кубка Стенли не получил Везину? Наверное потому, что он черный, ой нет, русский? Вася Ты лучший!!!
У него есть Везина в прошлом году. В этом году Везину должен был брать Худобин. ПШС - 2.22 (3 в лиге после Раска и Аллена; Хеллебак не в десятке), % сейвов - 1 в Лиге (Хеллебак всего седьмой). А то, что творил Худобин в плейофф, - это вообще чудо, которое отмечали все специалисты. Единственный показатель, по которому Хеллебак на первом месте, это количество сухих матчей.
Так что объективно, Худобин больше заслуживал Везину по статистическим показателям, ему не дали, потому что номинально он - второй вратарь в клубе.

Apples and oranges. They come from different eras with different styles of play. The game has evolved a lot since Roy last suited up. It's like comparing Roy with Parent.

Moral of the story ...learn how to do the splits!!!!
Kinda... it only works if you have mobility and strength in the splits, no just the flexibility to get there. I've seen too many goalies who can split but then not move. His mobility and strength at full stretch is unreal. The only other goalie I've seen do that was Quick. I'm in awe!
@@sportysbusiness his quickness is all in his name. Quick is a goalie who loves to cover the bottom of the net. Vally is gr8 cause his flexibility n a big goalie who can move for his size. Quick is a very active tendy like Korpisalo and Bobrovsky (plays exactly the same style) able to do the splits. being flexible and strength is a given to pros.

Yes. Canada number 2 in hockey👍 Number 1 USSR and Russia👍✨ USSR and Canada played 58 times. 46 times hit the USSR and only 7 times Canada🤦♂️🤭
In the new history, 41 matches took place between them, the Russians won 21 matches, played 4 matches in a draw and lost 16 times to the Canadians🤷♂️
It turns out that Russian hockey is number 1 for sure👍🔥 And Canadian hockey is just a painted balloon that constantly bursts🤭👉🎈
