Thanks Jansen, a really useful and practical approach to this issue. I have been using the FINN BREAKFREE LEAD and this works really in conjunction with a GG Breaker. Yes, you may lose the lead if it’s really bad but you have the added advantage that the lead will plane up on the retrieve and lift your rig out of trouble. Something to consider. Tight lines.
Great demo Jansen. Just one thing you said near the end about having your rotten bottom line the same breaking strain as your main line. If you did that, wouldn't you break off at the leader knot as the weakest point? Wouldn't you have the rotten bottom about 5lbs less than your main line?

Hi Jansen. Love your talks, as a newcomer to sea fishing. Would it be possible to do one on hook sharpening please using different types of sharpener? Ive never really known how to do this. Many thanks.
Glad you find the talks useful, that’s the aim of the game! To be honest I wouldn’t personally recommend re sharpening modern chemically sharpened hooks as you’ll never get the point back to its original shape, though some anglers will. Hooks are the one thing that I wouldn’t advise scrimping on. I’d sooner use expensive hooks and a modestly priced rod and reel! Hope that helps. Jansen

Another informative video, that’s just had me order some Gemini rotten bottom clips, thanks Jansen! Quick question, you say to use a breaking strain on the RB same as your mainline. Wouldn’t this then risk the mainline snapping and losing your leader and rig as well?
No problem! Use the same breaking strain on your RB as you would on your reel. The shorter length on the RB will not stretch and will snap before the longer mainline that will have a lot of stretch in it.
@@VealsMailOrder2898 ye, and then left on fishing grounds because they've snagged and broken off at the mainline leaving leaders flapping around to. Its common sense not to use a load of terminal gear when fishing rough grounds!
@mtadave6702 could you please link a video to how you fish rough ground please? I'd love to know how you fish for cod,conger, smooth hounds over rough ground safely? Without - Mainline Leader Rb system Or use of any other components ? Also, every tackle shop in the UK sell these brilliant components that helps you catch the target fish on the grounds that they feed on safely and loosing minimal tackle. I think safety on the beach is definitely priority. Look forward to seeing your method 😃 Ben.
