At 3:57 If the batter walked, why would you put a tick mark by the strike boxes? Wouldn't it be more intuitive to put the tick next to the ball boxes?

toscodav the tick marks are more for keeping pitch count; you can put them wherever works for you. The label on the line to first base is more important in determining how a batter got to first

I'm learning vintage base ball scorekeeping, so I have to learn this but also mentally edit the rule differences as you're explaining.

How do u score a batter reaching on an Error by say the 3b man? Also, if say runner on 1b gets out @ 2b on groundball to short that shortstop ran to 2b to tag bag or runner out. Thanks for your help.

E is the abbreviation for error. So if a batter reaches first by an error on the third baseman, draw the line from home to first base and label the line E5. If a runner on first is out at second by the shortstop, you can write 6U for shortstop unassisted or "6 tag." Whatever makes sense for you!

On the example with Thomas, shouldn't the tick mark be on the line with balls? also is the 5 in the upper right, total pitches for that player or the pitcher's number?
    Thanks.

+Stephen Bachara After all of the boxes for balls and/or strikes have been filled, subsequent tick marks for foul balls can go anywhere. The #5 in the upper-right of the box is the running total of the pitch count, explained further in Part 3.

Im wondering the same, how many pitches total did Thomas see? And does that tick only represent foul balls, or in this case ball 4?
      Thx also, good vid
