I've always said yes the dancing may SEEM a little slow for Chicago, BUT no doubt that's because you've got that choreography to remember...plus it's rather tough choreography contending with the chair (which in Bebe's words) is NOT lightweight
It truly amazes me that bebe is so extremly brave and loud on Stage and soo confident but if you See her in interviews she stutters a Lot and seems so vulnerable....she is Born for The theatre otherwise she would drown I think...those People always catch My sympathy -3 go on bebe *-*
It IS in the original production (along with a number called "Class" with Mama and Velma) that were filmed but cut but are on the extended DVD as a bonus feature (Class is on the soundtrack through).
@tarynactress Did you see Chita Rivera do this number in the original? Her brilliant replacement Lenora Nemetz? Or Jasime Guy on tour? If you haven't .....
To the best of my knowledge, no one got around to filming her as Roxie. She only took the role for a couple months. However, I don't know if you're a trader, but there are a few audios. :)
Someone has posted a compilation video on here of different Roxie's over the years (including Melanie Griffith, Lisa Rinna, and Bebe). Her part doesn't have her singing though...it's just the lead in to "Roxie"
I know this a 12 year late reply, but hell: Because Velma already had one big dance number. Also, the film wanted to be more from Roxie’s perspective. This number would make less sense with her POV. It also doesn’t progress the story or give any character or theme insight. I definitely have some issues with the movie, but them taking out this number isn’t one of them.
@@liteflightify What are your personal issues with the movie, if you don’t mind my asking? Just curious since I’ve just started dipping my toes into this musical and I’ve currently mostly heard that it and Hairspray are two of the better transfers from the Broadway stage to the Hollywood screen, so I am wondering what were some criticisms with the movie since I’ve mostly heard good about it.
I'm guessing due to time and flow because they still DID incorporate the Velma crying on the stand and asking for Billy's handkerchief at her trial into the film.
What a privilege to see Bebe in this role in person twice. She was perfection!
I love that laugh!!! "Can I give you some advice? It stinks!" "WHAT?!"... I died.
Alyssa Peck me too
THIS is how you win a tony!!
To remember that whole dance must have took a long time I could never remember something as complicated as that lol! Bebe is amazing!!!
Got to see this on Broadway with Ann Reinking and Phoebe Neuwirth. One of the best things I've ever seen in my life.
Her name is Bebe
She's amazing as Velma, but she was also an amazing roxie.
Bebe makes this look easy but it's not. it's much harder then it looks... go bebe go
This is just brilliant.
She was a fantastic Roxie also... GOD i love her
The big difference between the OBC and the revival is the tempo of the music, the OBC was much faster and had alot more kick.
ch-yea! when velma takes a stand! (applause) love her ethusiasm
Brilliant. She makes it look effortless.

Ah! this is just so amazing!! I don't suppose you have cell block tango? I LOVE Bebe's laugh :D
My absolute favourite velma. Love her so much.
Well, that was just faboo!
Oh how I love Bebe Neuwirth
Velma - Bebe Nuewirth
Roxie - Anne Reinking
Fabulous.
Is it any wonder the woman won a Tony for this!? Oh to have seen her and Annie Reinking in this!!
Incomparable!
Chita Rivera 🤷♀️
Nobody on EARTH can do it better!

Dang I'd love to see footage of her Roxie.

y did they leave this number outta the movie? :(
