Hi Jadah. Yes. Using the method that Dan S. explained in this video, assuming the sails are set and the engine with the Hundested prop is set optimally, your usable range should be about 6000 nm (nautical miles) at a speed of 8 knots. That assumes a fuel burn of 1 gph (gallon-per-hour) The boat carries 800 gallons of fuel so your maximum range in this scenario would be 6400 nm, but you have to leave some in reserve. Of course, your range will vary in the "real world" because there will be times when you need to increase your engine rpm and fuel burn if the wind dies or the seas get very rough and you want to maintain that 8 knot average speed. However, there will also be times when you can turn the engine off and just use the sails to get that 8 knot speed. Tahiti anyone? :)
Jeff the range is unlimited. It is a motorSALIOR. Under power along approx 3,000 nm. Her hull speed is 9.5 knots, but you can not expect ideal performance. 7-8 knt average would be expected. One of the first rules a sailor learns is what ever the expected passage time is, factor in an additional 35%. So the weather, charts, etc is all good that 10 day passage will only take you 13-14 days......Be happy, be safe
I was always under the assumption, that it's very hard on diesel engine to lug it at low rpm with a load on it. The EGT's don't get high enough and you will soot up the turbo. I may be totally wrong but I've heard this before someplace.
It's called stacking. The engine isn't running hot enough to burn all the fuel. Then it starts leaving unburnt fuel in the stacks and on the rest of the internal parts.
Dan, what kind of stuffing box is on the propeller shaft of the 56MS? Also, what kind of stuffing box is the rudder equipped with? Are both easy or difficult to work on? Can you perform maintenance on both yourself?
I love this boat. It intrigues me. But there just isn't enough blue water videos even after all these years. There is more from the N46MS. So it would be awesome for Nordhavn to actually do a round the world voyage in one. I reckon if they did that then sales would go through the roof. Just saying....nudge nudge....
And by "debacle" you mean when the buyer tried to dodge taxes and then pin it on Nordhavn? Nordhavn won that court case and the buyer faced criminal charges for tax evasion. You shouldn't listen to the PR propaganda spewed against Nordhaven from a convicted criminal.
After four and a half minutes, I stopped trying to tolerate Mr. Streech's incessant stammering and quit watching his pitch. My advice would be: First: Hire a competent spokesman immediately. Second: Assign Dan to less-demanding duties such office sanitation management.
Interesting technology...thanks Dan. It would be interesting to see your staff taking this one around the world!

Or a Nordhavn Rally across the Atlantic'

Would be good to see you doing all the things you‘re talking about 👍
Thanks Dan I was wanting more info on the propeller and you did a great job of explaining its benefits and use.
This boat would be great to do the Cook Passage which is the longest great circle from Port Townsend to Quebec Canada in the St Lawrence.
The perfect long distance live aboard

could you sail in comfort around the globe or is it just for shore hopping
Are you the same guy from the Nordhavn 120 debacle ?

Can this motorsailer be equipped with a Caterpillar instead of the Lugger?
lol good one
So this boat should be able to cross oceans?
I like this motor sailer however. it seems like they arent selling well.
Bet that computer controlled now, pitch and load
(RPM, propeller pitch, and sail area) Dan, are there any computer systems or charts that will help you optimize these 3 variables? thanks...
A truly torturous explanation. Nice boat though.
Could you try to make it sound like you know what you saying...This uuummm eeeee eeeee is reale makes it souds like you forgot the words you reading
Dan, um, ah, it was, um, uh ...a very um, um, BORING, um, ah presentation. I, um, stopped ah, um, counting after 50 "um-ah's."
Maintenance 1 motor/transmission , sails and 50 k prop . I'm out

Mr. Sebnup - That's unjustified and unnecessary. I find him credible.
He can also be the coffee boy
thats an expensive prop.

Talk all day and not say anything .
You don't use CCPs on your other boats? Why for nordhavns sake?!
To find his IQ deduct 1 point for every um, am, ah from 100.
Lol true
