  • Hello guys and gals, it's me Mutahar again! This time we take a look at what appears to be a scenario showcasing how TH-cam was apparently slowing down for users who had an adblocker enabled. It turns out it was more on the actual extension than any underlying code that's been pushed out. Thanks for watching!

Yes, I understand the growing scam advertisements is n issue... but I think it is important to remember what youtube offers as a service. They let anyone, anywhere upload one of the largest file formats (in terms of raw memory) an unlimited amount of times. They also then let anyone, anywhere stream those videos an unlimited amount of times.
That's not cheap, especially in 2005 when TH-cam started. TH-cam is a private company... they need to make money to sustain themselves. You could argue that maybe online video sharing is a necessity now and should be funded by the government, but do you really want the government to own youtube? Product decisions would be terrible, privacy would go down the drain, and the products quality would gradually diminish. Well then you could argue maybe TH-cam should be a non-profit, but is this really what we want billions of dollars from google poured into for a non-profit? That money would be better spent solving more pressing issues. So that leaves us with what we have now.
I understand that ads are annoying... but I also understand what TH-cam is providing for next to no cost from the consumer.

You're very right that it's not a "luxury" thing for most people. On other sites it's for safety, but on TH-cam I feel the reason most people use adblock is because if you don't, you get ads ALL. THE. TIME. Because as I understand it, the more people use adblock, the more YT will push the remaining ad spots on those who are not using it. So they get bombarded by ads every 2 minutes, when you pause, when you open another tab, etc, making watching anything more a drag than entertaining. There is no option other than get adblock. To a certain degree it's absolutely understandable and necessary but there's a fine line and definitely a point where you have to STOP FUCKING WITH THE PRODUCT. It's so incredibly rare for a company to actually try and follow that rule, and it's almost always for the same reason regardless of the business. It's a handful of people and their willingness to "sell out" to someone else, which fills their pockets, makes the product worse (and usually signs the death warrant of said product), and screws the actual consumers.

Then the an ad at the end of video started playing, I paused it and went to grab the link for the ad that actually interested me, and it was gone, replaced by the end of video ad...
What's the point of showing an ad if the user cannot refer back to it to convert it into a sale? My only guess is that they only want to sell premium, advertisers be damned.

So here's the thing about YT ads, and I see this happening on the PS4 all the time. You're watching a video, it gets interrupted for a 10s ad, and the video continues. No problem, though even that's becoming an issue because now they're running up to 30s unskippable and way too often. If that was all it was, I'd turn off adblocker for YT on the PC. But that isn't what happens at all. Instead, you're watching a video, it gets interrupted for an ad, but if you don't click that Skip button, the ad will continue for 5 minutes. The sheer arrogance of it, creating ads of that length, forcing people to constantly interact with the platform. I'm pretty sure I've seen even longer ads, much longer ones, like they're an video in their own right. Plus, some of them are so freaking unacceptable in their content that I feel we need legislation to control them.

For example, watching a news segment about something tragic where people have suffered and died but suddenly there is an advert that's all excitement and upbeat music which feels disrespectful almost to the real life tragedy I was learning about.
Adverts for gambling when watching documentaries about how drug addictions have destroyed lives and communities is another one.

Another reason why I always keep an adblocker enabled on any page I visit, is also from experience with certain websites where some ad providers seized the chance to add a JS script in their ad snippet to get you *out* of the page you visit for some obviously shady scam page. That was years ago on rather sizeable sites (I remember Fandom, ex-Wikia, was one of them), and thankfully that is no longer happen. So the latter point you mentioned about adblockers being an extra layer of security when browsing, not just to remove pesky ads on a page, is something I completely relate to. And I suppose ads on TH-cam are now made in such a way they do not have their dedicated s and instead are a video playing out in their video player... But the amount of things advertisers can get away with compared to a regular content creator on TH-cam (unless you are a massive one with an 8-digit subscriber count), is enough for me to distrust that it would not happen in the future on TH-cam, even if the prospect of such an incident would be ridiculous. Back then, it could get me out of my page. What more control could it have over my page (account data, browsing habits...) if it happened here... Call me paranoid, but we are never too safe when browsing online.

    1. Get an adblock or VPN (goofy. Or are you just stubborn?)
    2. Block and report EVERYTHING. If you do it usually won't show up again (TH-cam being the exception to their own rule of course). Then go to your Google profile and request less of every single ad category
    3. If you click on a video and it shows an advertisement, that's not the video you've requested. Go back and try again, it takes milliseconds
    4. Sometimes a video is forced to have an ad, and usually its the 10s-2m ones. Just don't watch it, its not worth your time

If they had just taken some due diligence in checking what ads are allowed on their platform, and allowed any ad to be skipped after 5 seconds.
They wouldn't have to do this, and tick off their entire client base... If an ad is appealing, people will watch it and click the ad; that's kinda the point.

Many people don't use the extension beginning with "u" and ending with "Origin", which is the best one so far, and use the one that has the simplest name instead because they don't know better and aren't as tech savvy as most of this channel's audience. If TH-cam and Google invested 10% of their time they spend on fighting adblockers in stopping the obvious scam, get rich schemes and fake mobile game ads, most people would not bother with blocking ads, but that's only half of the issue. When you make most of your ads just plain obnoxious, too loud, and/or unskippable and detrimental to the user, expect the pushback. And if you think that paying for a premium will guarantee you ad free experience think again, if 50% of current users started paying, they would just add ads to the current paying base and create a premium premium ad free tier for a couple of bucks more, same as Netflix and Amazon, it is a never ending circle of greed.
This is a similar issue that buried most published magazines, even before the online transition, when you eventually got to 50% or more pages of ads in any magazine you PAID for, surprise, surprise, people stopped paying for ads with articles sprinkled in, their sales plummeted and majority were cancelled.
One more issue I have is with favouritism and censorship, for every big creator that can get away with basically anything illegal, and for every small creator YT demonetizes just for kicks, I just demonetize TH-cam for a day. It's so stacked that if they stop doing that kind of shit today, I would still be covered until 2035.

Steps 2 and 3 of the Four Steps for Ideological Subversion (Yuri Bezmenov, 1985)
      2. Destabilization - the purpose of this step is to change the status quo, particularly the country's economy, foreign relations, and defense systems. *The intent is to create a massive government permeating society and becoming intrusive in the lives of its citizens.* This can take from two to five years to perform, again with the active support of academia pushing youth in this direction. Here, entitlements and benefits are promised to the populace to encourage their support. Basically, they are bribing the people to accept their programs.
Bezmenov claims after this stage is completed, the naive college professors are no longer needed and since they will undoubtedly protest government policies when they discover the truth, they will be disposed of quickly. He cites examples of this occurring in Nicaragua, Grenada, Afghanistan, and Bangladesh.
Look up the following video on YT:
While We Were PANICKING, the Government Did THIS... | reallygraceful - TH-cam This video is about the *bipartisan EARN IT bill,* introduced by senators Lindsey Graham and Richard Blumenthal. The EARN IT bill had its first hearing on March 12, 2020 and aims to *allow the government to scan any and all messages online, eventually eliminating end-to-end encryption and the expectation of privacy altogether.*
(The EARN It Bill was passed in January, 2022.)
Look up the following news article:
U.S. and UK Enter Into Landmark Data Access Agreement - Kennedy Sutherland LLP (kslawllp.com)
On October 3, 2022, the Department of Justice (“DOJ”) announced that the Access to Electronic Data for the Purpose of Countering Serious Crime (“Data Access Agreement” or “Agreement”) between the United States of America (U.S.) and the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland (UK) is now in effect.
Under this landmark Agreement, service providers in the U.S. and the UK will be permitted to respond to a “qualifying, lawful” overseas production order (“OPO”) to transfer electronic data created or maintained by the provider. *According to the DOJ, the Agreement will allow the U.S. and UK to “prevent, detect, investigate, and prosecute serious crime, including terrorism, transnational organized crime, and child exploitation, among others.”*
      3. Crisis-This is a major step lasting up to six weeks and involves a revolutionary change of power. This is where a cataclysmic event (false flag event, civil war, invasion) upsets and divides the country thereby creating panic among the citizens. To Americans, symptoms would include circumventing the Constitution (re: Use "privately owned" social media sites to restrict free speech/First Amendment rights) and altering the checks and balances of government (see: Video and article I posted above), and possible martial law.
Creation of economic financial and national security crisis. Also includes social crisis and a breakdown of previously self-evident restrictions on moral behavior.
The Cloward-Piven approach is used to create more takers than producers (higher population than available jobs, necessitating government aid)
The crisis produces benevolent leaders who will promise to deliver things to meet people's needs through “hope and change” (ie: Hitler’s rise to power amidst a disenfranchised German population reeling from the effects of WW1) through social and economic justice. False illusion that the situation is under control if strategic directions are followed-Bailouts, regulations of industry and so forth.
Why should the websites work with/for the feds? What happens in a revolutionary change of power? What happened in Germany? Communist Russia? Anyone deemed an enemy of the State is eliminated. What do you suppose when you are deemed not just an enemy of the State, but also of "God and Country"? How will they prove it? Your actions online, which you have probably been doing for many years, are recorded, of course.
Look up the following article from MSNBC: (Remember, in this world, narratives and opinions are all that really matters. And sometimes they will keep telling a narrative until it becomes a reality.)
Trump just promised an authoritarian ‘task force’ to impose Christian ideology
What is the “7 Mountains Mandate” (Dominionism/Dominion Theology)? Supposedly there are 7 “mountains” of global society-Arts and Entertainment, Education, Economy, Family, Government and Military, Media and Religion. (Note: The US voting machines are called “Dominion”.) According to this false teaching, by conquering these 7 “mountains”, the Kingdom of God will be established.
You might just think they are planning a revolutionary change of power.

Just a recap: 07:50 highlights the core issue. I don't want to talk down other adblock developers out there, but currently there is only ONE adblocker out there that is far ahead of the curve (ublock), to the point the general advice is to specifically use that one and not use any other adblock extension or even adblock browser setting or in some cases other extensions that may simply tweak or affect anything on YT because that could still cause issues.
Now, I totally respect other adblock teams to get their adblock versions back up to the same quality and this may only cause some temporary issues that these teams can work on to resolve, but from a user perspective it's entirely the smart thing to do to stay on board with the leading adblocker out there, which without a second of doubt, is for sure ublock.
