Being a Jersey diver for almost 40 years out of Sandy Hook, there’s nothing like catching lobsters and throwing them in the bag only to have one latch on to your leg through the bag 🤣. I’ve been diving out of Barnaget for 18 years now and about 7 years ago I had a real close encounter with a 10 foot threasher right on the south side of the jetty. I’ve noticed that over the years there are always big sharks right to the south of the jetty in the high rollers off LBI . I’ve been asked many times if im scared of the sharks . My answer is this “ no matter how big the shark is they ALL seem to know what a speargun is and they know full well they can get an easier meal elsewhere “. Great video boys and well done💪👍.
That’s very cool must be awesome grabbing your own fresh lobster.👍🏼 I surfcast and go in a wetsuit at times even November & December it’s cold for sure in seaside heights nj as ya know but we’re men soooo gotta do it. I fish Barnagate light house jetty also.Be safe fellas . Tight lines when fishing
That's the calmest I've ever seen that inlet ! Use to have a 34' boat in forked river many years ago and that inlet was a nitemare no how calm the ocean and bay were. Good luck boys
Hello from the NJ pinelands...In my younger days as a firefighter I spent years as a water and ice rescue trainer...When I saw that you were going to be cutting some of the ghost nets away it was instant subscribe... NJ needs more people like you!!!!!!!!
We have done may already and will do more. I will see if I can post some pictures. They do keep killing fish, lobster , crab , etc. We did one net in cooperation with NOAA years ago. That was a big one up on Long Branch area.
Looking at this video, I feel interested because the appearance of New Jersey underwater is similar my country. Like the cold water temperature that must wearing drysuit, and murky water looks green. So I subscribe to your channel, and I wish you uploading often.
At first I thought you guys anchored the boat off the stern and I was like “oh god that’s dumb” but you were just using the grapple as a guide line, you had a bow anchor in the sand. Phew. Nicely done on that tog :)
That blackfish is so lucky. What are the chances of getting stuck in a net the same time guys are planning to scuba dive that exact location. Good job Sir!
we ended up only doing one dive (one and done). Those fog signals really sound annoying on the video but they did change from underway to anchored as per the rule book. I think at least one trip this winter we will go out and remove some of those ghost nets. We have taken several off and its fairly safe to do with a good crew and plan. You need a new video every week ( maybe we will get out again this week on Frank's boat )!!! Why do I feel older after seeing myself on your videos and when did the hair go missing on top of my head?
Hi Joe, Gerry Tye from years ago. Hope you will remember me from Elite. I've watched your last few and really enjoyed them Brings back a lot of great memories. Keep it up. stay well.
Behind that small tog that swam away it looked like there was a bigger one that was dead to the right, no? Good look getting that other tog out of the net, they're slowing down into winter mode and lowering metabolism at that temp so it has a much better chance of surviving but those sores are gonna leave it open to infection. What kind of net did it look like? Looked like something older, like the material wasn't the same as newer nets.
The fish hide in the wreck when divers are around. No, they are not dead. The fish in the net was not doing well and would have died. Not sure how old the net was.
@@dansiegel1874 That is pure BS. I've been fishing the Florida waters for 30 years the resource has been crushed. Hows that cod fishery in the northeast? Gone! Wake up!
@@hansgruber2509 Keep on keeping on. Some fisheries have been decimated, some are great success stories. I've been earning a living on the water for nearly 45 years. Every location is different. Believe what you need to believe to be happy

Question :: How come your not using Buddy system ? I have never seen Solo diving in open ocean or am I just not seeing 2 diver I am absulootly sure everyone on the vessel can dive but why take the Risk ???????????
I use to dive up here in NJ off a couple of the popular (back then) dive boats. Went down in pairs but, soon as you hit the anchor, we split up & came up separate. No one complained so it continued. Penetration for me wouldn’t be to far in. Not without a partner but self sufficiency is a must. Still, it is always safer with a partner, unless it’s me😅
I think that was a sand dollar (a type of crystacean) There were lots of them in the area but they don't seem to get much bigger than silver dollar coin size.
Releasing the snared tautaug was the right thing to do. You are a guest in his world.

This brings back memories, In the 70's and 80's I was always diving off the coast...lots of fun, thank you
Awesome footage man! New subscriber!
I'm glad to see the water is so clear.
Surprised how clear that water is visibility was awesome. I wouldn't think it would be so good so far north.
Why is that

Those are pretty tough older guys. Great job!
This is AWESOME! Cant wait to watch more!
Nice dive ! cant wait to get back in the water.
Looks cold, but fun. Great video!

I thought it was dead. Must have been in net for some time.

Keep it coming! Cool stuff.
Looked like a great dive

Gerry, I don't remember you, give me a few clues.. What year? Where did we dive?
Great camera work gjuys
The water gets real clear in the winter.
less algae

WHAT HUGE SWELLS
WHERE ARE THEY
I thought I saw Snooky..smoosh smoosh..
Thanks for saving that fish. It may be the last one in the ocean
He canceled that out with the lobsters he put in his bag lol
Ocean's are healthier now than they were 75 years ago. Lots of skewed statistics out there. Regulations for recreational fishermen are beyond insane.

Hi Joe, NYC DOT says hello.
Hi Ed
Thanks for watching!
Super
Ghost nets and lobster pots are a huge problem.
I found wooden pieces of a boat last summer at the shore

No sharks. They are there, but they keep their distance.

Jonah Crab
