    Damn, I am in love. Thank you for creating this! Makes me understand myself way better. Also explains why I used to shut down and go "numb" when my parents/SO's would start a fight. I feared saying things I would later regret.... I'm glad I now know that setting boundries and voicing my opinions is not destructive.

      I had to intervene more than ones in a fight. I would go numb, cry but something inside me had enough and now I am able to stand up and put into the argument instantly.
      I don't know what it is. But I don't yell, scream, hit things or throw things. But people listen to me when I had enough all I have to do is raise my voice once or give them the look.

    I just discovered your videos yesterday, and saved this one for last. I'm a Nine, and wanted to experience the richness on display with the other eight types before delving into my own. Such wondrous variety you've presented!
    Thank you very much for creating these, and giving so much of yourself through these varied characters. I am so looking forward to your next project.
    My heart swelled to see Frodo Baggins and Fred Rogers. Such shining examples of rich, nuanced characters struggling on their journeys and helping us on our own.
    Also delighted that The Dude is in here. He may not be the best role model, but damn if he isn't relatable!

    • @TypeCast

      "Well that's just like... your opinion man."
      But seriously, it's very gratifying to hear you say that! My hope with this series is that people will be able to use these videos to better understand themselves and those around them.
      Next I'm planning to do some "case study" videos where I dive deeper into individual characters, so stay tuned for that!

    There's something deeply unsettling about having your own head cracked open and revealed in intimate detail on a youtube video. I was looking up Enneagram types to help with building characters in a story I'm writing and after hitting this one I feel strangely vulnerable and exposed lol.

    • @TypeCast
      @TypeCast  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      There are things in every Type that everyone can relate to. But one should, more or less, stand out for you above the rest.
      For whatever it’s worth, I’ve heard many places that if you can’t identify with a specific Type, there’s a good chance you’re a Six or Nine. That’s not a hard rule but might be a good place to start. Check out the Type Descriptions on the Enneagram Institute website…
      www.enneagraminstitute.com/type-6
      www.enneagraminstitute.com/type-9
      Also (and this is purely anecdotal) I’ve personally known a couple people who claimed to “identify with all the Types”, but I would bet the lives of my children that they’re Fives. There’s something in them that wants more data, or that has a harder time “personally” connecting with only one specific Type. That may not be you, just throwing it out there.

    Felt super indentified with the reasons behind our actions along the video, and realisiing the growth I´ve done so far,; it´s nice to finally have something that makes me feel undestood just as much as I love giving that feeling.

    My test came back that I'm a nine, but I know I perform quite well under pressure and have good problem solving skills and am resourceful. It's just when it comes to personal choices where I'm the one affected that I have trouble making decisions....

    • @TypeCast
      @TypeCast  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      "Tests" are a good way to get you pointed in the general direction, to narrow down the options. But I wouldn't rely on one specific result as the Gospel Truth of your Type. What I generally recommend is that people take their top rankings and review the full Type overviews for each one. Personally I like the Type Descriptions on the Enneagram Institute website.
      www.enneagraminstitute.com/type-9

    Another amazing video! Especially loved Chantry from What If and Frodo Baggins (whom many people have told me is a six, while I, as a Nine, knew he was a Nine). Will you ever do videos of celebrities' Enneagram numbers?

    • @TypeCast
      @TypeCast  3 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      What If is one of my favorites (Fool’s Gold FTW!). And Frodo is fo sho a Nine! No plans to do celebrities, but I do want to do some case study videos taking deeper dives into specific characters.

    • @brianjoubert5241

      Frodo seems like a 6 as this is 9's stress path.

    • @miriamhodges5632
      @miriamhodges5632 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@brianjoubert5241 I don't understand how this can be when Samwise is one of the most obvious 6's I've ever seen portrayed in literature. He's loyal to fault, somewhat paranoid, prepared for everything, sees things as quite black and white, and fits into the general 6 mindset very well. Frodo, meanwhile, is a much more passive person-calm, wise, observing nuance, and longing for peace. He does not initiate the quest to destroy the ring-in fact, he sits on the knowledge that he may possess a ring of power for about 17 years without doing anything. I can't imagine any 6 could do that without going insane imagining what might happen while such an object was in their possession. Frodo did not. In the council determining who was to take the ring, it was only when he saw how much strife it was causing that he stepped forward to take the burden, so as to end the conflict and bring peace not only to the council, but to the whole of Middle Earth. It was Frodo who had compassion for Gollum, trusted him somewhat, and was charitable to him (meanwhile Samwise, a textbook 6, slept with one eye open, and constantly made his distrust known to Gollum). I could think of more examples all day, but I think the strongest proof against Frodo being a 6 is to look at Samwise, and then compare the two.

    • @brianjoubert5241
      @brianjoubert5241 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@miriamhodges5632 I didn't explain myself properly. Frodo is definitely a 9. That much is obvious to me, being a 9 myself. What I was saying is that I think the reason why people mistake him for a 6 is due to the fact that 9's become 6-like when under stress. 😊

    I binged all your videos today, and was really moved emotionally by a several of them. Thanks for creating this content!! I'm a 9 myself, so I'm commenting on the nine video. Fred Rogers and Lincoln made me cry. And of course sadness in the 4 video made me cry.
    I'm a small group discussion leader in a "School Of The Heart". We use the enneagram (Road Back to You) along with other books and topics to investigate emotions, attachment styles, how to grow, etc. I'm recommending your videos to our class :)
    I'm very curious, what type are you??

    • @TypeCast
      @TypeCast  3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      I’m so glad to hear that you enjoyed the series! Stay tuned for Round 2, I’m working on it now.
      I’m a One. It’s funny, I actually didn’t connect much with Ian Cron’s the road back to you (although I did use it in the videos) because he focuses more on the one as perfectionist, and I much more identify with the one as reformer. Figuring out that I’m a sexual subtype and not self-preservation as I previously thought helped clarify that for me.
      School of the Heart sounds interesting… Growth FTW!

    Since reality is based on each individual perception of each individual human ,and because each human is different it would be impossible to actually quantify a "general reality".. The ravings of a schizophrenic may seem completely unreal to others but to the schizophrenic it is reality. And because there are no preset levels of importance, we create our own ideas of it by placing our own values on what we decide to judge. A standard of relative importance does not exist and our value systems are usually based on our own physical needs which is usually what we refer to as reality.

    • @TypeCast
      @TypeCast  3 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Chidi is one of those fictional characters that has the traits of many different types. Those clips I used worked well in the Nine video, but I could just as easily use clips of him in the next Five or Six video. Personally, I think Leslie Knope from parks and rec is another character like that. Is she a one, or a two, or three? Yes.
      Certainly some the characters are unambiguously one Type (Javert, Umbridge, Annie Wilkes from Misery, Frank TJ Mackie from Magnolia, etc...), but as I’ve been doing this series and talking to different people about different characters, so much of them act like a Rorschach test. I’ve had people make suggestions for certain characters as certain Types that, in my opinion, are *clearly* something else (I'll fight to the death that Hermione is a One, Michael Scott is a Two, Ron Swanson is a Five... although I love to argue about almost anything).
      At least for this series, the character's "actual" Type isn't all that relevant (although I think most of them align more or less where they should be). It's more about giving a general "flavor" of what each Type is all about. The biggest example is that I used a George Costanza clip (clearly a Six) in the Three video. "It's not a lie if you believe it" is, to me, the quintessence of an unhealthy Three and was just too perfect not to use. Don't worry though, George pops up again in the Six video where he's supposed to be.

    • @TypeCast
      @TypeCast  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      In short, Fours are striving to feel unique/special. They have deep feelings and can be perceived as melancholy/morose, but they help bring a creativity and authenticity to the world. Fives are striving to feel detached. They want more data and can be perceived as emotional/physically distant, but their detachment can also bring an objectivity and clarity to the world.

      Lol, Chidi’s a Rorschach Test. Here’s what I said in a previous comment thread…
      I think Chidi is one of those fictional "hybrid" characters that has the traits of multiple Types in a combination that a normal human wouldn't have. I could use clips of him in several of my Type videos (as you say, Six and One for sure), and they would make just as much sense. It just worked out to use him in Nine video this time.
      I’m sure there’s some great Five-ish clips of him as well.

      I think he’s a character that could go several different ways. I’m sure I could find plenty of clips to put him into the six video as well. for me it’s more about just using a couple select clips to demonstrate specific things about the nine for this particular video. but I have thought about doing a video or series at some point that looks at ambiguous characters. I think Leslie Knope from Parks and Recreation is a good example.

    Really good video, and I love all the other enneagram videos you've made, but this is annoying me a lot: Chidi Anagonye as a type 9? That's just the most non-sense typing I've ever seen, Chidi is literally the most perfect example of a type 6. Like, the first example of Chidi that you put in the video literally shows the fear of type 6s and their distrust of their own ability and reality.

    • @TypeCast
      @TypeCast  2 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      Thanks!
      A great case can be made for Chidi as a Six, and I'm sure I could find Six quotes from Enneagram books to use over those same exact clips (and they'd work just as well). However, the "actual" Types of the characters in these clips are irrelevant. There's several places where I've purposely used a character in the "wrong" video (i.e. George Costanza in my first Three video, despite him being 100% a Six).
      This channel isn't about Typing specific characters. It's about using individual clips/scenes to paint an overall picture of what each Type is all about. I only put the labels (film/character names) at the front of each clip for the benefit of people who aren't familiar with them. When I originally conceived of this project, it was going to be just straight clips... no graphics of any kind. Then a bunch of people I showed it to all said some version of, "What was the character in that one clip? I've never seen that film." So I added the labels.
      It's a Catch-22 situation for sure. It certainly gives the impression that I'm labeling specific characters as specific Types, but I'm not. I need to record a video as Intro for my channel explaining all that, lol.
