You sir are a true craftsman. I appreciate your passion for the trade and the in-depth explanation of your processes.
Thanks
I understand the passion for knife sharpening. I sharpen my friends’ knives for free and they return the favor with something down the road.
Can't thank you enough for the wealth of information you are constantly building upon. I feel like you have an extremely detailed, free, very comprehensive full course about being a sharpener, that you just... give us for free. You could probably charge a good fee for access to these videos, and would not be lacking in people wanting to pay for it, too. Thank you 🙏
Thank you and I am happy you like the content
Great stuff again Paul, this is the kind of thing that separates you from all the naysayers criticizing your cost to benefit ratio.
Well done 👍
Your customers are lucky to have found you . .. your dedication to perfections is outstanding.
Thanks for sharing.
Thank you for watching! Daniel
This was a smart video. Love good ideas on how to upsell in ways customers love vs resent.
I understand what you were trying to do by starting with a 80 grit abrasive and then going to the vibrating sander. I do the same thing and charge nine dollars, but never use anything but the orbital sander and clean the sandpaper with a disk sander eraser.
Many ways to do this nine dollars sounds like a good price
Awsome video thanks Paul.
Nice work !
Just out of curiosity, would using a heat gun on a low setting work by opening the pores of the wood allowing the oil to saturate the wood. Just a rookie question, thank you.
Kind of off topic to this video, but I would liek to know where you got them and what size plastic bozes you are using to keep customers knive in and separate from other customers...
I got them at Costco years ago they are Plano storage boxes and havn't seen them since and they were a fantastic deal 5 for 19.99 this is the box but the Costco deal was killer now one box is $12 amzn.to/4gr8YAW

these are nice amzn.to/4itxLX1
awsome job. Just wondering, at only $5 per handle, is this more of a "making a customer very happy" (and getting return customers) service than a money making service. seems like alot of work and pretty costly vacuum chamber in order to really make a relatively small profit?
What am I missing?
@@deerosenbaum8109 the vacuum chamber isn’t necessary but helps penetrate fast and keep in mind it’s actually a pretty quick process just demonstrating and filming makes it seem long but it doesn’t take me long and I’m often doing entire sets so let’s say a set of 10 knives that’s $50 bucks extra you pay off that Vacuum chamber in 3-4 knife sets also I use it to degass epoxy for making handles so it has other knife making uses
@@ALXSHARPEN A lot of time spent for 5
Sir, $5? Uh between material cost, tool use, and your time.. pretty sure you lost money selling that add-on.
@@JT-jg8le I couldn’t agree more. That add on takes longer than sharpening the knife it’s self
Honestly, it may be thought of as a loss-leader: that client will be a repeat client now, and will tell all,of their friends.
Exactly.. thats why i do it for free for potential repeat customers... my process is a lot faster thow, ... scotchbrite belt on a 2x72 (well 50x2000) beltsander, and a buffing weel an a lick of woodbutter to finish.
Yes I see some of you get it! It's not always about making the max dollar on a customer but will they be back and tell two friends and give you a FIVE STAR REVIEW. And contrary to the above it does pay for itself over time and increased business
I do a general polish and cleaning on all knives as well with is just an upsell
Hello I have the same knife can you sharpen it also I have two others too thank you jb.
I definitely don’t think it added profit, that was a lot of work for five bucks. To me this looks like it should be more like $50. I don’t know how much benefit you’re getting from that vacuum tank, I usually just submerge it in Danish oil let it drip off for 15 or 20 minutes and then wipe the excess off. osmosis pulls the oil into the wood. Without it being submerged in the vacuum, I don’t know that you’re really getting much more oil down into the wood.
I have submerged them as well it takes a lot longer for them to dry they bleed oil for days I only do that if the wood is really not in good shape but I still want to use the wood and not replace the handle. Remember this is what I do. Could I charge more? YES and so can you this is just to give people ideas of things to make additional money charge more if you want.
