    There are two bridges connecting Penang Island to the mainland. The bridges has helped Penang Island in leaps and bound and enabled the island of Penang develop further. Prior to the construction of the two bridges, Penang wasn't as popular as it is today. Also Penang is one of the most visited island in the world today. Thanks mostly to the renovations and restoration done right.

    Its pretty common in malaysia to have food that never seen before or never heard of cuz malaysian people always invent more food, flavors and some tradisional dishes that came back and become viral in malaysia. I'm malaysian and i haven't tasted all of it

    One of the very first street art that kick started the whole scene was the one of the boy and girl on the bicycle. It was commissioned somewhere after 2008.

  • @OvDevilz
    @OvDevilz 2 ปีที่แล้ว +12

    Most of the old street arts in Georgetown were done by Lithuanian artist Ernest Zacharevic. He is the first one commissioned by Penang state government to make all the artworks including the famous kids on a bicycle.
    If I remember correctly he married a local and Penang is his second home.

    The whole Georgetown city is a UNESCO heritage site…besides the road you guys walked thru, there are other roads in the city which i think with more beautiful old colonial buildings, but less touristy, may be because there are less street arts….The chicken curry dish that you guys ate is called curry kapitan, a fusion curry of chinese and malay style, popular among peranakan people…unlike the Nasi kandar curry or banana leaf restaurants curry, this curry dish does not involve the typical curry powder mix…it is made with only with fresh herbs and spices, that’s why is not so spicy.
    Peranakan people ancestors are a mix of Chinese from China that came to Malacca port with the famous Chinese China explorer called Cheng He, during the Sultanate of Malacca, and they were traders. Some of these chinese China at that time settled down in Malacca n married to Malays. They are called “Baba” for men and “Nyonya” for women. Now most their generations settled in Malacca and Penang.

    The rickshaws are overpriced for tourists. You could rent a bicycle instead and go through Georgetown hunting street art. If you look through the streets in Chinatown and little India there are plenty of dying trades like makers of jade name stamps, makers of Saree, spice traders and etc.. Definitely don't do those normal tourist stuff. Try to get local Penangites to show you around as there are plenty of nice places that are for free in Penang. Local usually kept those places to themselves as they don't want tourist to crowd those places and turn them into another tourist trap.

    I don't think Malaysia is unsafe . As any tourists traveling abroad to any country should take certain precautions .
    To be safe , there are certain fundamental tourist rules that tourist should keep in mind going any where arounda the world . These apply to Malaysia as well.
    For first time visitors , it is recommended to use tourist agencies. It is most expensive way but the safest approach. Don't pick unknown , cheaper ones .
    Tourist maps are still very handy and useful to keep and you can get the latest ones at the airport. Familiarice yourself with Malaysia .
    Make sure your hotel is near a railway station . Once you know your way , it's cheapest and safe travel .
    Avoid traveling alone in lonely streets .
    Book taxi from your hotel . it is safe . Use Waze , Google map on your mobile while using taxi .
    Do not expose yourself as a wealthy tourist.
    Finaly , if you have a local friend , nothing like .
    !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!¡!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!¡¡!!!!!!!!!!
