This is a very helpful and informative video, thank you. The Wallas: I've had three boats with them, and they've ALL gave me problems. As someone correctly said on cbrats, "it's the least reliable item on the boats" I ended up pulling the one out of my hewescraft and replacing it with a simple two burner propane stove. I also installed a Dickinson heater that runs on propane. I would never rely on the Wallas at this point. CD22-cruisers are great boats and probably the best boat for the money out there.
isit1984yet : Thanks for that - as for the stove, another option would be to build in something like a Camp Chef stove (which comes with an oven too). Propane, but for the cost of a Wallas could have 3 or so.
Matt, I've been watching you for years now. I am also a pilot, diver, farmer, and gold prospector, now I've added gem cutter, and now this vessel; and all these sea going vids are makeing me want to go to sea. Stop it already! I'm 61 and I can't keep starting new stuff. Way too many irons in the fire! Love your videos, Thanks a million Paul Wilson Texas
It went to the new owner, but I'll leave it up for anyone contemplating a C-Dory purchase as the things described helpful to all buyers (I hope). Good luck with your purchase!
Very informative. Thank you for sharing. In this world of flash & "go fast" boats, my dad taught me early on about buying quality & durability. He's old school Boston Whaler, Grady White & Grand Banks. So, I feel that C-Dory falls in that line of quality. Again, thank you for sharing in such detail.
That is a difficult question, as it is on its way to Iowa in the morning. I wish everyone could have a C-Dory, definitely one of the most adventure finding boats ever made.
Great video Matt, and a fine, comprehensive tutorial for potential C-Dory buyers. It's sad that you sold it, but I know you both have many warm memories of her. Thanks.
Excellent tutorial Matt. It's obvious that you are very experienced in many things to include boating. Your teaching style is perfect for beginners to advanced boaters. Just so happens I'm looking at C-Dory, Nordic tugs and Parkers. Tough search, but good problem to have.
Some 5000 ac's will fit in the front window - whenever I was working in the cabin in the heat of the day I'd put one in and stuff towels around it. Worked great and I suppose would work fine with the generator (2000) since that ran a 5000 just fine.
Coming up on a decade post sale. This boat may have been resold a few times in that time period. Wouldn't it be neat to see this vid and think how nicely outfitted it was back in 2012. Do you miss this boat?
@@seltenfotog3115 : you're welcome. As an aside - these really have no peer as an all around adventure boat - we even used ours on the road as an RV at times.
Another outstanding video. On it's way to Iowa? Going on vacation or is it sold? I have been saving up to get a boat and wish I had another $20,000.00 in my pocket if it is still up for sale.
Wonder if you could replace the fuel tanks with an aluminum automotive racing-type tank? They are square and designed to be safer in a crash. Any regulations with boats?
Our other boat had exactly that - aluminum tanks. Boats are all over the map as far as components and installation are concerned - nothing like the aircraft industry I came from at all.
That had to do with the tanks - the bulging fuel tanks (by now this would be corrected with those boats I would think) would pull the screw retainers (for the tanks) loose and water could get to the innards of the decking causing rot. I can't imagine a case where this would be an issue now as all the boats I know of with this were repaired (either by owners or the factory (at that time period) if severe enough). Factory support for these years of boat was very good - I can't comment on the present situation, hope it is still good.
Bill: our boat sold - we kept this up so others will know what to look for. Go to the C-Brats website (just type that in) and get the current (used) boats for sale. Great boats - good luck!
Matt, I was wondering if I could email you a couple questions I had about boating and fishing in general? I live in Weeki Wachee and have watched a couple videos you have shared.
Been gone a long time now, but you're looking so good you saw this video on what to look for. I don't keep up with the market at this point, but if you go plug c-brats.com into your search they always have a great many for sale. Good luck - these are the best all around boat you can find (not the top best at anything - but will do everything well and handle big seas (Alaska).
Pretty much - Yamaha powerhead with a Mercury lower unit. My current engine says Mercury on it but is actually a Tohatsu . . . Nothing is as it appears anymore it seems.
If you log on to the C Dory website “C brats” you will usually find 20 or more used boats for sale. Prices seem high to those unfamiliar with these boats but one of the favorable characteristics is they hold value. They also are so unique that if you are attracted to their style and utility there really isn’t any choice for you. Like me you’ll have to have one. I bought my 2001 slightly used for $30k in 2002 and sold it 11 years later for $28K. You will probably have some travel expense to acquit one if you don’t live on either coast. They are balsa cored and the only negative is wet core damage or rot if a previous owner didn’t properly bed additional accessories or features. If you check out the web site there are some descriptions of what to look for. I sold mine only because I got too old for the normal chores associated with boating.
@@mattmattsongold Amen to that I found a small one the guy wants $16,000 because of the trolling motor and the anchor pole on the back and a new motor I offered him 3000 because it's so small and I told him he could take the pole and the trolling motor off in the boat's condition gets worse every bit some people are just greedy
@@harlandvaught1177 :you're right about that. Hold out for a 19 (angler) or 22 - the 16 is very small. If you can't find any of those - a simple older Boston Whaler makes a superb fishing boat for not much money (used). Good luck!
@@mattmattsongold thanks I'll hold on to that I'm not trying to put too much on you if you know anyone or see someone that has one can you please let them know that I'm trying to get one I'm really looking for the one with the bathroom is just me and my son and by the boat being so lightweight that's perfect and also the one you are talkin about that's next to it could you send me some pictures and I'll try look it up my 9102625278
The price exploded on these in the past 10 years, no way could I justify a new one now - but the same goes for a $38,000 bass boat (Nitro) for the "cost conscious fisherman" so the advert says. No wonder kayaks are so popular!
They may look like it - but these amazing boats routinely tackle the roughest waters in the world, without incident. They will go both shallower than most bass boats and into blue water with equal ease. Don't have a dog in the fight - sold ours long ago, but it remains one of the top 5 purchases I ever made.
C-Dory is the absolute perfect boat for me. Hoping to buy one sometime. Thanks for the informative video!
You are most welcome - if you have even 1/2 the adventure we did in ours you will be one very satisfied C-Dory owner - the are fantastic!

The high bow of the C-dory is one of my favorite looks. The northwestern from the deadliest catch also has a high bow.
WOW.. nice job with your video and the upgrades you have done in the boat. I love it.. I wish I could buy it.
cool video and setup. Learned some great things. Great adventure boat!
***** : probably the #1 adventure boat - doesn't do anything the best, but does everything reasonably well - thank you for the post.
I've enjoyed every adventure aboard C-Dawg-E
I saw one coming down the Mississippi river with twin 50- 4 strokes and a little AC/Heat unit on top.👍

Somewhere early on an edit took out one of the 4 "problems". The narrative skips from #1 rub rail rivet to #3 fuel bulge bulkhead.
