Was totally blown away by this energetic r+r band and eagerly waiting for their first single to come out.im 64 now and still love showaddywaddy and play the 45s all the time.thanks 4 the memories boys.
I used to love the power cuts as a child. Mum and Grandma use to bake potatoes, toast bread on an open fire and we would go out and see the stars at night, the cuddle into out beds talking all night until we went to sleep. I miss power cuts.
This is an incredible find! Up until now I believed the only footage available was my “off air” Betamax recording of a clip from this Showaddywaddy performance featured on a TVAM interview with Dave Bertram (lead singer of Showaddywaddy) from 1987 when he was promoting their “relaunch” and the release of “Why?” This is AMAZING! Thank you so much for posting 👍🏻😊
I have Singles by All of these Acts. I remember watching this back In the day. I was routing for Showaddywaddy a combination of two groups, Choice and the Velvet Hatters, They would do a rock n roll jam together at the end of the night hence two drum kits. Jean De Both, the Inspiration for Steve Wright's Pub Singer, Star Turn.
Tony Hatch was always ultra critical; I loved Ken Dodd's barb ;"Imagine appearing on New Faces and being told you're a load of rubbish by the man who wrote the theme tune to Crossroads !" I miss Ken Dodd.
Can remember seeing Charlie James in my local pub The Sportsman near the Queen Elizabeth Hospital just a few weeks after her First appearance on New Faces which she sang "All Fingers & Thumbs" she had gone to the Pub in Harborne with a frend who worked at the nearby Hospital
He never got over his disastrous smile at Tony Hatch when he did that pirouette in another episode. Tony Hatch was so angry he had flecks of foam at the sides of his mouth. Oof!
Dry Ginger and Trotto were both shown in episodes of panel show _It's Only TV But I Like It_ in the Opportunity Knockers round. In that round, the teams are shown three different acts from various talent shows such as _New Faces, Opportunity Knocks_ or _The David Essex Showcase,_ and asked to identify which of the three acts was still performing at the time of recording (between 1999 and 2002).
Jeez. I was 15 at the time of this broadcast and that was the last time I heard the theme music. Long hair, sideburns, flared trousers, wide lapels ....
Oh dear, it reminds me when working behind a bar at a working mans club. I had to endure all this until I got home and listened to King Crimson, Zep, Deep Purple, ELP etc. It was a horror story for me to work at a WMC.
i was a huge king crimson fan as well as lots of other progressive bands, i understand compleatly your dismay but i have to say that come the weekend me and the then girlfriend would head off down the local British legion to watch all the turns, we loved it, then come monday id return to my normal life as a hippy come skin head and poor distain over all the groups like white plains. happy days.
It was a show that we could watch literally as a family, even as a nation. ATV could certainly do no wrong when it came to great shows that we could all watch, not like the ITV or any other station of now turning all progressive on us and literally not caring about or for those who preferred only just plain poppy stuff.
@@malcolmwearin4185 as long as we still ROMEO they will always be SHOWADDYWADDY when he leaves or retires then and only then can they be called a tribute band.
Wow . These were the winners! 😅 shocked they would have gotten any decent feedback from Tony hatch etc. All mor club singers. We used to watch this too.
Lord, I hated this programme. My mum was an avid fan and we had to endure this crap every week. The 70s weren't all good and this is a timely reminder.
Good grief things were dire back then with cabaret/social club performers trading their old-fashioned safe acts only fit for mums, dads, granny and grandad entertainment, it was so bad that even unoriginal Showaddywaddy looked slightly lively.
I can't get over how cheap it all looks. I think one of the reasons we don't have much quality programming any more is that people expect a bit more polish and gloss in the presentation and it's all too expensive.
@@misterdocuk Typical of TH-cam’s copyright ID system! I once uploaded a bit of BBC1 continuity from about 1997 with a Dangerfield trailer, it “recognised” that as an As Time Goes By episode!

Tony Hatch...that geezer knew talent. Gave Showaddywaddy his top mark.
He wasnt wrong, their music still endures in 2024

Remember when
That was the Christmas of the power cuts and a weird world.❤😂

Great to see the original 8 right from the start. Brilliant!
SUPERB FIND !! Thank you so much Mister Doc ! 😀😀

The long winter evenings just flew by in those days.
Brilliant to finally see this, so glad I found it. Here's to Yakity Yak
..❤
I remember watching this. I was 6 if it was 73.
Brilliant i have never seen this!

Charlie James was a nice singer and lovely to look at, enjoyed the jazz band at the start.
Tony Hatch was always ultra critical; I loved Ken Dodd's barb ;"Imagine appearing on New Faces and being told you're a load of rubbish by the man who wrote the theme tune to Crossroads !" I miss Ken Dodd.
That's hilarious!
Tony Hatch was known as the hatchet man. For his brutally honest opinions.
The Simon Cowell of his day!

Ken Worthington, TV’s clarinet man with a rousing rendition of Drowsy Maggie at 42:03. Historic… @newfaces73

Love this. Great to see Yakity Yak. I've got their only LP which is fully autographed and which I rate highly with some great cover versions.
The decade of the comb over that drummer on first act wins top prize
Start watching at 1:38 if you value your eardrums.

Tends to be the thing with talent shows. The winner ends up forgotten and second place becomes more famous.
I do like the fact that the opening jazz number from George Huxley's Jazz Band isn't under 2 minutes as often happens in things like X-Factor.
Amazing

I can't believe its fifty one years ago only seems like yesterday.
Mandatory sideburns lol 😂😂😂
The ladies loved the sideburns in the 70,s Mickey.
I was expecting Showaddywaddy to win!
I was 5 in 73.
Me too.
The same year we emigrated here to South Africa 🇿🇦
I wouldn’t lower myself to watch it. 🇬🇧🇪🇺

Where is Tom now, our SHOWADDYWADDY are still playing now after 50 years 🥁🎤🎷🎸 ❤️❤️🌹
I can remember seeing this and I told my dad I love the group showaddywaddy IV followed them ever since
Only the drummer remaining. Not really showaddywaddy any more. Just a tribute band
Always loved the band though.

I can't understand why any of this matters to anyone.
Pheonix nights for real.We would watch this and Opportunity Knocks religiously back in the 70's. Led Zep it aint
Shear quality shone through from Showaddywaddy. As it is alleged, be good boys, take the hit and settle for 2nd place. The rest is history.

I quite agree ! my God, people were easily pleased in those days.
Pretty rad that they got the drummer from Black Sabbath to be a judge
Like it or not..
Not a satanic ritual to be seen!
Those more innocent times are gone..
Satanic rituals? What on earth are you talking about?
My god that was awful?! The audience look traumatised, especially when Yakety Yak come on!! Dreadful act!!!!
Her guitar playing sounded like a beginner in a bedroom!
Kaccetty Kac
2 guitar playing dolly hot honeys in separate acts! Fancied them both 😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍
Dick.🙄
Surprised to see Bill Purchase playing jazz.
Derek Hobson was only 25 at the time
We really did NOT need that 10K tone.
Some absolutely ghastly haircuts amongst the men.
Could have done without the ear piercing hypersonic 70’s squeals for the first 90 seconds . Cheers
I thought that was the first act

Same as all the x factor, pop idol, opportunity knocks and of course, new (now very old) faces.

showaddywaddy i wonder what happened to them lol.
They're back to where they began; ie touring around doing dates where they can for not a ton of money. It's much more tiring when your 40 years older.
Pete Conway is Robbie Williams' dad
Dave Bartram with a long pony tail.
the girl singers ware good
I wonder why Dave Bartram was so low-key on the day? surely someone backstage saw the potential in his good looks? They learned quick tho..

13, unlucky for some 😂
He cheated on Jackie.😠
This is absolutely terrible
Yes certainly. But it proves how correct Sir Thomas Beecham was.
Dwi'n cofio hwn.
When British singers felt they had to sing with American accents - how cringingly embarrassing. 🇬🇧🇪🇺
