I was a 1980s teenager and makeup was a huge deal especially in school. We wore lots of Covergirl and Maybelline and Bonnie Bell was also big. Loreal and Revlon was what the upper class girls wore cause it was too expensive for us. Eye liner thanks to Joan Jett was huge and would go on the inside of the lid and it was either jet black or blue and then it was passed to your friends in the bathroom. The schools were full of makeup and conjunctivitis.
I started wearing makeup in my 40s and had no idea how to use makeup, so I would have loved this video back then. I basically learned the hard(er) way by experimenting (oh, dear) and later watching Lisa Eldridge and PixiWoo here on TH-cam. I wish I would have found you earlier-I love your tips, knowledge, and trust your reviews!
Who doesn't just LOVE this woman? #EmilyNoel is truly the idol of the makeup world. She's so so happy 😊 talking about it putting it on wearing it you can see it in her eyes she's smiling through those beautiful 😍 eyes 👀. Gosh Emily's that friend everyone needs. LITERALLY she's so down to earth loves i mean truly LOVES finding cheaper in price but not at all in product. The things she's made me buy through the years has all been EXCELLENT. She's also practical sure know most of us aren't able to rush out and buy everything at once and that's what makes her super super special. When it comes to having those ones who's truly the best there's not many at all I have anymore. Those who act like you've got to buy everything that's fresh on the market because they have it. That's not at all what you'll EVER get from this queen. Yall smash that thumbs up button let's show #EmilyNoel just how much we really appreciate her. Please it's a second to do if you do anything please hit that like button yall. God bless us all now and always stay safe and live life to the fullest. Life is so precious and dear.💖💫⭐🌟💞💕💖💚💙💛🧡💜❤💚😘🙂
Thank you so much for this video Emily, I'm 63 and watch all your vlogs, I have learned so much from you and I don't feel excluded like I do with some other channels. You embrace all ages so once again thank you. 😘😘
I am a big fan. I got a pink head band with a little flower on top, my husband said babies wear those, I said ," I am wearing it to watch Emily.. You have taught me so so much. Got a 5-6 Elf brush set to add to my single wet n Wild ones from the Dollar Tree. I purchased a makeup organizer with separate purchased trays to separate lip products from the products, from liquid makeup and my Elf Camo Concealer and so on. I can't wait until my birthday month of June to visit Sephora Target, and Ulta to pick up some eyeshadow palettes. I have icons all over my phone. I am so ready. Going to seeing a movie Downton "Abbey The New Era". I live 65 miles from Las Vegas and do not have the luxury of going to the Malls. My husband commutes to to Mirage 5x a week, so he does not like going in on his days off. But you are so inspiring love you Emily. Thank you ❣️ I am 66 soon to be 67 and I am learning so much.👁️💋👄👠💄🪞🛑 Would love to see a video on brushes and tools used to apply makeup.
When I started wearing makeup we did not do half of what is done today. So I am learning the new way of makeup. I had never used eyeshadows and now they are my weakness in buying them. Thanks to you Emily, I am not only learning how to do makeup but also how to buy makeup too. That is why I love your videos. The pearls of wisdom you impart to us are invaluable. We love you too Emily.
When you were doing your eyes, it reminded me of watching Bob Ross paint. You make it looks so easy and describe it all so well. I’ve been watching you for over 10 years and you have taught me so much! Love all your videos!
I used the old school wedge/round sponges. As for my eyes, I started using eyeshadow primer pretty early after the brand I was using started making it. I think I was already grown. But I would cover my eyelids with foundation before adding eyeshadow. I was not allowed to start wearing makeup until I was in in high school (Mary Kay) back in the early 80’s. Back then you had to add water to the eyeshadow and blush, painting them on like watercolor paint. The sponge was important to blend. Then I was introduced to Dillard (Clinique and Prescriptives). Learned about Sephora when we traveled. Thanks for the refresher. I needed it. I have not worn makeup in a few years, due to my health. I started feeling like putting it on was a chore. Now I feel like I’m learning all over again. ❤️
Hi Emily! I just heard you mention you get messages from people of all ages. Wanted you to know that I am 70 and thoroughly love your channel. Keep up the great work. God bless you and your family!!!
I just love this! The biggest reason is because you present yourself as a normal woman. Not a graphic liner artist or fashion week looks. Just a beautiful woman teaching other women how to maximize our features! Thank you for not being in a high horse even with your popularity and success. Everyone that asks me about makeup I dont often recommended a concealer at all and if I do I say the fit me or the photofocus wet n wild and if a stick is wanted the Almay stick. Never more than medium coverage. Talk about needing to really blend, especially if using a brightening or lighter color. That looks soooo bad if not well blended! I love sponge tips for shimmers and metallics! They work amazingly well!Edit: paw paw sponges by aoa! Amazon I think they’re 6 for $12 or less. I was on dance team and we didn’t wear any foundation at all! Just blush lip and mascara and a few times a brighter shadow. Never had orange faces or nonblended lines. Smart coaches!!
I think your Needs palette would also be excellent for beginners. The Needs is my go to palette when I need to get ready quickly and don't want to be distracted by my other makeup. 💜
I love this video idea! I’m going to forward it to my niece. She knows a lot more about makeup than I did when I started out wearing makeup but it’s still very helpful. She’s been watching beauty videos since she was 4. I actually started watching with her. Love you Emily 💖😘
I love the Wet N Wild bare focus tinted hydrator! It’s what I’m using everyday and got it for my mom too! It’s so beautiful for the price! It doesn’t settle in my wrinkles!
Emily, you have such patience in teaching about makeup and your makeup application techniques, I could watch you all day long. I’ve been wearing makeup a very long time but I always learn something new from your videos. Always stay true to who you are because you are pretty darn awesome!! ❤️
I started using makeup in my 20’s after I was married but didn’t have much skill or products to try. I was in my 40’s when I started trying more things I’m 60 now and have learned a lot from you. Thanks Em! This is a fun video and very helpful.
Such a great video! I'm 56 now and this look is my go to, for sure. I remember takin a lighter and lighting the end of my eye liner pencil to soften it...lol. Great memories.
This is a great video idea. Yes when I started there was no primers and I don’t even remember using an eyelash curler. Even though they were available.
“Sometimes one blush isn’t enough.” YES! Me today. I layered matte peach on top of a peach shimmer today and loving how it turned out! Milani eyeshadow primer changed my life and it’s thanks to you, Em! 🫶🏼🤗 love the idea of this video. I’d love to see something like “what’s in summer getaway weekend makeup bag” video. I’m always packing way too much 😬🤷🏻♀️ happy weekend eve 🎀💖😁
I started using makeup in high school, but I didn't really take my skincare seriously until my mid 20s. That would have been a big game changer back in the day for sure.
I agree. I didn't start wearing makeup until my 40s. My grandmother tried to show me but passed away before we got to makeup. My granddaughter is 14 years old and she asked me about how to wear makeup. I had no clue, but I will definitely use this video as a starter. Can you do a beginner's video on facial care? The first advice I gave my granddaughter is to take care of your face and skin. It's the most exposed surface of your body. Thanks for the memories. It was so overwhelming during my days especially when magazines had a big influence.
Emily... I sooo appreciate how kind & gentle & simple, yet beautiful these tutorials & looks are!😍❤️💋 and that you take the time to reach out to so many people of many ages! Thank you for always doing high-end & affordable looks!!💞💞💞💞
This is a great video Emily. Yes, you are helping me. I’m old but I still like the easy, can’t mess it up makeup. Bless you for all your expertise and using affordable products. You are appreciated.
This is the kind of look I go for at my age now, I'm 56. It looks simple and pretty on you. Not as complicated as some looks can be for everyday. Thanks Emily, it's always a pleasure watching your videos 😃 love you, sweetness!
YES, I'm just not very inventive with which colors go where and my delivery is even worse - despite LOVING makeup. I would love simple naturals/neutrals/nudes & ways to apply them. I wear makeup to the gym & don't need a full glam makeup job at 6am to lift weights lol 🏋🏼♀️💪🏼
I remember every girl having a pressed powder compact in their purse and they would touch up with the white foam round that came in it ☺️ “sometimes one blush isn’t enough” yessss 👏 bring on the blush! Love your look here! 💕
I love the eyeliner trick with the ELF eyeshadow sticks. I have a couple of them, but I’m going to have to get a darker brown for eyeliner. I have a shaky hand and that would be perfect for me.
From someone in their 50’s who hasn’t worn makeup in years but thinking about it again, this video was FABULOUS!!! Beautiful products and the ease of which they were applied was awesome!!! I know I will watch again!!!
Love this video. As two years of the pandemic has gone on, and working a crappy (but good paying) industrial job, makeup has become almost non existent in my daily life. At my last job, I wore makeup every day. Now Im lucky to have time or energy to even apply mascara. Thank you for this video Emily. Sometimes less really is more. I cant wait til the Bare palette from Profusion is back in stock. Already own the Mauves and Smoky thanks to you, and I really like them! Again, thank you for always keeping us regular folk in mind when it comes to makeup.
You always have fresh, unique video ideas that are so helpful and interesting to watch! After all these years you never fail to impress me! Hence why you’ll always be my favorite beauty youtuber!
Another great vlog 😍 I have been applying make-up for a long time. It's always good to get new tips and ideas. I can't apply as much color to my eyes, as I did when I was younger. 😮 I find less is more now 😎 So impressed at how you keep coming up with new content.
Love this! Thanks for continuing to endear us with your relatable and nostalgic videos! When you're talking about shimmering sands I can't help but chuckle! That was my jam. And the Neutrogena bronzer with all the little squares blew my little mind the first time I used it at my cousins! And who remembers the roller NYC watermelon clear lip gloss???? 💋 🤣
This is a wonderful video! And I need to tell you - you are one of the 1st You Tubers that I found (and we are talking ~4 years ago) and your essential make-up videos are the BEST!
I started wearing makeup around 2003, when I was 13. My mom had me started on some of the staples such as the coty powder, covergirl compacts, covergirl mascara, covergirl with olay. I definitely was not a blush girl since I had really bad rosacea growing up. I remember using the white wedge sponges and wondered why it never looked decent 😂😂😂 I really wish I had kept the makeup I had used just to look back on all the old memories pre-TH-cam.
🌞Love this video Emily thank you so much I’m writing this comment, my 16 yrs old Daughter following your steps practicing. She would love for you to have a video on what are good brushes to use and moisturizer
My current favorite now that the weather is getting warm where I live is one pump of the wet and wild tinted hydrator And one pump of Maybelline super stay and my make up doesn’t crack but it stays on all day!
Emily your ideas for videos continue to be both brilliant and approachable. You always provide pretty looks. They enhance never go overboard. Plus I adore your profound thoughts. Your the real deal. Keep on trucking.
a single browny peach blush was my only makeup when I started, haha. used it for my cheeks and my eyes! now i have a bunch from other categories but blush continues to be my favorite step❤️ i think having multi-use products is something I'd recommend for beginners! maybe one of those multi-use creams for cheeks/eyes/lips. another thing i want to say to beginners is that it's ok to NOT do "every" step of makeup if you don't want to do it. for a lot of days, I don't put on foundation and I don't even own mascara anymore. when I wanted to get "serious" with makeup I ended up trying a bunch of mascaras before admitting I just didn't like the feel of them on my lashes. and that's ok!
I’m going on 47 years old.. in the early 90’s we didn’t have no brushes, our fancy friends had the wedge sponges. We had OUR FINGERS. And it was bad... really bad 😂😂😂 little spongetip eyeshadow applicators , maybe an eyelash curler, and having to use a lighter or match on our eyeliner to get it to work 😂 times were rough...I mean, I’m convinced that why we plucked our eyebrows to nothing. We didn’t know what to do with em! 😂😂😂
This is such a gorgeous look, Emily!! The eyes and lip color are perfectly balanced and so complementary. This look is great for daytime and works for nighttime, too, which are the kind of looks I like best. Another excellent video from you!!
I have been watching you only a few months, and I’m. 86 years old . It is so nice watching you explain so nicely. Every day. Thanks you. 💕🌹🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻 Landa Calif.
When I started wearing makeup, I was 13 in 1995. I was into the brown lip, so I wore Revlon Coffee Bean, paired with Revlon Timeliner lip liner in Espresso. Occasionally I’d wear liquid eyeliner that looked insane. Lol. I remember brands like Ultima II, Revlon, Cover Girl, Wet N Wild, and Maybelline.
I used to wear Ultima II’s Glowtion as blush and always got so many compliments on it. I always had a backup on hand, and then they phased out the brand and I stopped wearing anything on my cheeks for years. Nothing looked quite as good as that product! This was years before highlighter was even a thing.
@@trishamarie , Ultima II had the BEST products! My first high-end lipstick was their Shimmered Apple Blossom. The Nakeds line by Kevyn Aucoin were the most innovative products of their time. Ultima II is still sold in Asia, and I so wish they'd start selling it in the US again.
Awesome video. It took me back to my own makeup journey. Wet n Wild and a lighter on the school bus (sometimes I still do that with draggy-ass eyeliner); too much powder and mascara! I love your informative videos and their nostalgic yet informative nature. Please keep making more!
I am still learning so much watching your videos. I have had super oily skin all my life (now 60) and only recently bought an eyelid primer because I thought a matte concealer did the same thing. Not at all! I really could have used this same video but just for oily skin. Showing how each of the right products and each of the application steps can build oil control and longevity. Don't forget us oily girls, even senior ones! Love your channel!
I hv been following your tutorials for years. Never got tired of them. Every time you teach a trick or two. I loved how you used shadow stick as an eye liner. I’m gonna use it from now on 💕👍
I so hope you are still doing TH-cam when Belle starts wearing makeup. Would love to see mother daughter makeup. A video with them now doing mommy’s makeup would be precious
Omg your taking me down memory lane lol i loved naturistics lipglosses i had every style and favor in middle and high school.. I also started with covergirl shadows trios..
At 53 here man we had some doozies. This is early 1980. It was Fit Me concealer. I remember dial a lash mascara. Great stuff!! I remember these eye shadow paints. They came in a tube. L’Oréal was the bomb then. I recall some WNW shadow palettes maybe. We used those white makeup sponges. I’m sure we were a mess. Lol. BTW, I just used the WNW foundation w that L’Oréal Glotion in deep. Love it!! Then used the Covergirl instant wrinkle blurring pressed powder. So pretty!!! The NYX marshmallow primer is so freaking nice!!! Love it!
I can’t believe we ever lived without eyeshadow primer. Foundation and powder never cut it for me. It felt revolutionary the first time I bought one, and I was skeptical to even try it!
@blasFEMMEous I know people that can get away with using foundation or concealer in their eyelids to cover veins, uneven skin tone and to prime, but I’ve always been in the oily eyelid club, so makeup before eyelid primer was rough.
What a great idea...& so helpful!!! In my youth I was pretty great with my eye makeup...not so much base products.. But now, after living in pretty much no makeup environments, & after a few years of bad health I find myself at close to 75 & learning all over again!!! And, like you, so grateful for all the products & knowledge now at hand! We are so lucky..& I am so very grateful to you for sharing all the knowledge you have gleaned...and for being so open, warm & honest!! And thanks so much for the Always Have a Backup video...I always wonder what YTers treasure in their personal stash...I hope some other people will take this idea & run with it!!😊😘
I’m 76, and I remember using eyeliner in high school but that was it. Around my 20’s I started using eyeshadow, just blue. When the pandemic hit I started watching you tube and got into makeup subscription boxes. Oh I was having fun but still mainly just eye palettes. So I am very new with foundation, primer, and concealer. So I am very happy you did this video.
Profusion is 🔥 They're so underrated. I Love the Blush 1 palette too! I recently bought another one in a recent sale on their website, and a bunch of other things too. I've been using that palette for almost 5 yrs now, and it's still going strong.
I love a good makeup starter kit video! I got into makeup in my late twenties and those kinds of videos helped me so much, because walking around the makeup section at drugstores was totally intimidating. If you're looking for video requests, I'd love to see you review the Salt New York Sneaky Balm foundation and cream cheek products. I'm really curious but would love to hear your thoughts, you're so thorough! Hope you have an awesome day! ❤
thank you so much for the request!! And yeah, I love videos of this kind even after establishing a makeup routine... it's nice to know what's easy/workable :)
I’ve watched you for years now and I LOVE these types of videos the most! No matter how much I change my routine and products I use, you always bring me back to the simple products and I realise “wow I’ve really been beating my face with so much product”ahaha love your work!!!!
Great video and info! Thanks Em. I would love to see an everyday eye tutorial. I am a preschool teacher/elementary school substitute teacher and would love to see an easy everyday neutral look. Thanks again!!
Great video Em! I’m sure you’ll be helping plenty of newbies! We’ll done! 👏. I was cracking up when you said you weren’t dripping with oil but the powder was out of control. So funny
Emily, You are such a gem in the beauty space. This video brought back so many memories of being a teen in the 80s while still being a helpful video for someone just starting to use makeup. Cheap white sponges, too much powder, and blue and pink eyeshadow were everything... oh and big hair of course.
I was a 1980s teenager and makeup was a huge deal especially in school. We wore lots of Covergirl and Maybelline and Bonnie Bell was also big. Loreal and Revlon was what the upper class girls wore cause it was too expensive for us. The schools were full of makeup and conjunctivitis.
🤣- yes I remember Revlon and L’Oréal being the higher end of the drugstore makeup!
I started wearing makeup in my 40s and had no idea how to use makeup, so I would have loved this video back then. I basically learned the hard(er) way by experimenting (oh, dear) and later watching Lisa Eldridge and PixiWoo here on TH-cam. I did my eyeshadow in the 70s but it was only one color.
Your Warm and Cozy eye look from circa 2012-ish was my favorite eyeshadow tutorial/look that really helped me on my makeup journey! Love ya, Em!

Just wanted to say I love your "practical" videos, Em.
Please make them, for as long as you want to.
I'll watch :)
We want the high-school pics!!! 🤩🤩

@@emilynoel83 I'm not even a child but you made me think "oh, so that's why my eyeshadow primer just makes things worse. Too much, huh..."

Awesome!!
I love these videos because I can send them to a friend when they ask me about makeup.

This was so fun! You’re so right about teenagers and not prepping skin!
I’ve been watching your old videos! I love them and seeing how you started!
Hi Em! I am not a beginner but I loooove watching those videos! Thank you so much, I had so much fun listening to your memories ♥️
Great video, ‘Em. ThNk you so much! You’re the best and so knowledgeable.
Yeeesss! I watched you when I was 24, I’m 36 now. Love you Em!
aww!! love you!
Your brainstorming powers are strong! Thank you so much for consistently coming out with such creative and helpful videos!
This is a wonderful video! And I need to tell you - you are one of the 1st You Tubers that I found (and we are talking ~4 years ago) and your essential make-up videos are the BEST!
I love your sophisticated, monochromatic look!!
🥰
you have the BEST video ideas!
I was wearing makeup in my teens, in the 80s lol and I agree I wish I had the knowledge and some of these products too! Back then lol
🌞Love this video Emily thank you so much
I’m writing this comment, my 16 yrs old Daughter following your steps practicing. She would love for you to have a video on what are good brushes to use and moisturizer
Your content is useful and fun.🌸🌿
thank you! :D
My current favorite now that the weather is getting warm where I live is one pump of the wet and wild tinted hydrator And one pump of Maybelline super stay and my make up doesn’t crack but it stays on all day!
Ooh I will have to try this combo! I feel like the SuperStay can look thick so maybe this will help. ☺️
Emily you always do great tutorials! I always learn something! Thank You!🌸
When I started wearing makeup, I was 13 in 1995. I was into the brown lip, so I wore Revlon Coffee Bean, paired with Revlon Timeliner lip liner in Espresso. Occasionally I’d wear liquid eyeliner that looked insane. Lol. I remember brands like Ultima II, Revlon, Cover Girl, Wet N Wild, and Maybelline.
love it! Brown was such a trend back then. I remember always wanting shimmery brownish/neutral lipsticks
I used to wear Ultima II’s Glowtion as blush and always got so many compliments on it. I always had a backup on hand, and then they phased out the brand and I stopped wearing anything on my cheeks for years. Nothing looked quite as good as that product! This was years before highlighter was even a thing.
@ColourPoppy I love that you remember the names! The names are such a big part of the charm and nostalgia of makeup for me.
Please keep making more!
wet wild tinted hydrator is a godsend
absolutely!
I just randomly found her channel in my recommendation now i'm obsessed with her videos she's so freaking talented.♥️🍡💗💕🍨🎂🥰💖🍧🍭💘🥳🎡💖🎉✨🎂💞🎠🎠🧁🥰♥️🫂😍🍓❤️😍🤭💗🎉🥰
She is a great person too ... And her channel is a very fun and safe place. Welcome aboard!
This is a great post. I really enjoy your TH-cam’s!
Again, so sweetly inspiring & I sooo remember the CG blue tube mascara….my go to then!! Thanks for sharing~
"A powder compact was life" oh yes! Hahaha! 37 yrs old, and that was true for me! Untamed brows as well! Hahaha
Love the eyeshadow tutorial! I’m learning to love makeup again and I’ve never really been taught how to apply eyeshadow. Thanks for this tutorial!
Thanks Alycia!! I’m so glad it was helpful!
*I'd love to see an all cruelty free version of this video idea! Emily always comes up with the best video ideas!*
I hv been following your tutorials for years. Never got tired of them. Every time you teach a trick or two. I loved how you used shadow stick as an eye liner. I’m gonna use it from now on 💕👍
What a great idea! For beginners of all ages! Thank you! You come up with the best content! love you Em! ❤️ Plus your eyes are still goals!
I love, love💞 how knowledge of everything is shared on this channel. Have a blessed day to everyone.
So many good makeup memories. Naturistics was so good
I so hope you are still doing TH-cam when Belle starts wearing makeup. Would love to see mother daughter makeup. A video with them now doing mommy’s makeup would be precious
Omg your taking me down memory lane lol i loved naturistics lipglosses i had every style and favor in middle and high school.. I also started with covergirl shadows trios..
CoverGirl was my go-to when I was starting out using makeup!
I am beyond excited about this video. Thank You for all the inspiration you give us! We ❤ U!
Love it!
It is so enjoyable to watch your videos Emily! I have been watching your videos for years ! Great content and great ideas !
I can’t believe we ever lived without eyeshadow primer. Foundation and powder never cut it for me. It felt revolutionary the first time I bought one, and I was skeptical to even try it!
I thought it was gimmicky the first time I bought eyeshadow primer. I couldn't live without it now.
@blasFEMMEous I know people that can get away with using foundation or concealer in their eyelids to cover veins, uneven skin tone and to prime, but I’ve always been in the oily eyelid club, so makeup before eyelid primer was rough.
The foam triangles were the beauty blender of the day way back when. They are still quite popular today, I believe.
And thanks so much for the Always Have a Backup video...I always wonder what YTers treasure in their personal stash...I hope some other people will take this idea & run with it!!😊😘
I'm loving the Maybelline superstay ink crayon. Got " chase dreams". It brightens my face!
Does it have good staying power?
Yes
Same here!
Best drugstore setting spray? Best affordable SPF for under makeup? 😬 I have trouble with those. 🥺
You get more beautiful every year!!! Your truly stunning!!❤️🌸
@@emilynoel83 I've been curious about the brand Salt altogether! They look great, all creams I believe! A review of the brand would be fantastic.
Such great affordable accessible products mentioned! Thanks Emily!!
I’ve watched you for years now and I LOVE these types of videos the most! No matter how much I change my routine and products I use, you always bring me back to the simple products and I realise “wow I’ve really been beating my face with so much product”ahaha love your work!!!!
Would these products be good on someone over 50 that just wants to change things up with makeup or just for teenagers?
CoverGirl clump crusher lash blast mascara for lower lashes. Do you remember CoverGirl super sizer?
Happy Friday 🎉! Lynn
So funny
I have been so sick and so busy after not being sick I haven’t got to sit down and just watch videos!! I’m so happy to see your face!
So impressed with that mascara on the upper lashes!
Love this video! I would also like to emphasize for beginners that skin care is so important! A great moisturizer and eye cream would be amazing !
Did you mention your shirt? I love the pattern and would like to get one! Love your channel and all of your loving encouragement ❤️🦋
Wow…the complexion came together soooo beautifully!!! That contour was lovely then the blushes just BOoM…WOWZERZ!!!😍😍🤩🤩👌🏼👌🏼✨✨
Emily, You are such a gem in the beauty space. This video brought back so many memories of being a teen in the 80s while still being a helpful video for someone just starting to use makeup. Cheap white sponges, too much powder, and blue and pink eyeshadow were everything... oh and big hair of course.
