I thought I was going to Scuba Dive in a Giant Kelp Forest : I was wrong. There is hardly any giant kelp left..
Thank you thank you thank you for your patience with the upload of this video!! I worked so hard on it to try and showcase how important the Giant Kelp forest is to our oceans, Tasmania, and the whole world. We need to help protect it.

I sat in on a presentation about this last year from Cayne Layton, it sounded like they were having some early success with certain species

    Katt, again a wonderful video.
It's just sad, I believe if more would love diving like you, they would take much more care, it's just a guess, but if they would know how beautiful it is, they would realize it's even much more worth to protect it. 👍

That's why I try and get more people underwater. To see the value and beauty of the submarine ecosystems

@@OceanPancake Katt, did you thought about something like Diving and education? It doesn't need to be deep, but maybe more then just a crash course.
To support your account and your project, you could sell something like a booklet with some science, you may know the fish or shark intentification booklets.
      What do you think about?

Hey, I'm heading to Tassie in a few weeks to start my Masters with UTAS and IMAS. There's a lot of people working very hard on this. It's devastating, but people much smarter than me have already begun the work, and people like us are working hard to pass on the information and keep the work going. We can fix things and I intend to keep doing so. Keep up this incredible advocacy work :)

I'm just hoping we can keep highlighting these issues and support the solutions. Part two will be out on Wednesday!!

@@OceanPancake I’ll watch for it. 😀. Similar kelp forest decline off the west coast of the US… warming water and purple sea urchin explosion.

It's a shame you didn't get to dive in one of the few healthy patches of kelp forest. They're absolutely stunning!

Awesome video! Sorry to see Australia is experiencing the same issues as the west coast of the US. Glad you’re sharing about it👏💙

Thanks so much! Yeah I spoke to some scientists on the West Coast of the USA and they mentioned it wasn't that bad there yet? Either way it's so scary :(

    • @AzulUnlimited
      @AzulUnlimited 8 หลายเดือนก่อน

@@OceanPancake It depends on the area. Some have been impacted greatly, but other parts of the kelp forest are doing ok. And yes, very scary.

Great video! The GSR receives so little attention compared to its northern sibling, yet each are absolutely vital ecosystems with their own beauty and wonder. The urchin barrens in Port Phillip Bay are also quite devastating to see.
Now you're a temperate water diver you'll have to come and visit us down in Melbourne.

I would love (and hate) to see the sea urchin Barron's. Yeah! Great Southern Reef only gets 2% of the funding while it brings 10 million dollars in compared to the GBR
