    1. Theory of Social Action as propounded by Max Weber.

    3. Weber argues that Social action is shaped by hidden meanings and motives.
    4. Max Weber methodology to approach Sociology was shaped by Nomothethic vs ideographic debate. Max Weber was influenced by Neokantians like Heinrich Rickert, Dilthey and Windleband.
    5.Weber advocates for Causal Pluralism and linkages of causation with probability. Causal relations are partial and probable relations.
    6. Weber rejects Karl Marx's Economic Determinism and Durkheim's Social Or Cultural Determinism.
    7. Microsociology and it's emergence has roots in Weber's Social Action theory
    8. Weber argues that it is the individual social action which creates the social structure.
    9. Weber talks about Methodological Individualism and value relevance and value neutrality in sociology.
    10. Weber also gave the Methodology of ideal types.

    Sir reading the book of a particular author or listening to the music of a composer how it constitutes social action?
    Because my action of reading a book or listening to music is not oriented towards the author or composer but I'm reading and listening for my self satisfaction...
    Then will it constitute social action or not?????.
    If I read this book keeping in mind that I have to see what his works are,what are his thoughts regarding this issue of society then will it constitute social action????????
    Basically my meaning and motives behind performing the same activity decides ki ye social action hoga ya nhi????????

    I'm just asking that is your example can we quote in our sociological thought paper of BA. I'm confused becoz my professor said just stick to original reading of Weber don't put your own perception or interpretation just write the interpretation of Weber. What I have to do ?

    • @kaarwan-e-upsc
      @kaarwan-e-upsc  ปีที่แล้ว

      You can definitely use them... Whatever you read in books is also based on interpretation of original work of the thinker by academic sociologists.... Scholars have devoted their entire lives just to interpret the original works of thinkers like Marx, Weber etc.

    is verstehen part of the deductive method of sociological research?

    • @kaarwan-e-upsc
      @kaarwan-e-upsc  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      No... They are two different things... Deductive method involves testing of theory by constructing a hypothesis by gathering data (Link it Popper's Falsification and Merton's Theory-Research linkage)
      Using Inductive method, we move from data to idea/theory and using Deductive method we move from theory/idea to data (and may be new theory-link it with Merton's concept of serendipity)
      Verstehen involves sympathetic introspection and empathetic understanding and trying to understand the actions of the actor by putting/imagining oneself in their shoes.

    max weber talks about studying meaning behind actions . sir dont you think it is the field of psychology rather sociology.

    • @kaarwan-e-upsc
      @kaarwan-e-upsc  ปีที่แล้ว

      It's an overlap of two... It's more of a field of Social Psychology (Eg. Mead, Muzaffar Shariff- Reference group)... Also, link verstehen and participant observation... Sociologist immersing himself in cultural world of others... So it's Psychological as well as sociological .... It's overlap led to the Development of a special domain called Social Psychology!!
