Glad it was helpful! I just brewed a batch with this year's Chinook, supplemented with hops from last year. I think the batch from the video would have been better with more bitterness, either from an addition at the start of the boil, or adding the first addition earlier.
Yeah. I between the $50 for plants and the time and effort required, I am not sure it is really "worth" it for hops that I can purchase for $12 per lb. But as a gardener and brewer there is some satisfaction of creating a unique beer.
I've made a California Common with my Dutch homegrown Nordbrau hops. This should be a similar hop to the Northern Brewer hop, hopefully this turns out great I'm goinig to try it today. I chose this recipe because of the hop variaty, the plant was a fathers day gift so I wanted to match a recipe to the hop.
Great video! Probably would've had more pine notes if you boiled for 60 mins and added the 1oz of chinook at the beginning of the boil. I just harvested cascade hops and going to toss some chinook in there as that's what I have in the freezer lol Lil Frankenstein, if you will.😅
I agree, I think if I at least boiled some longer, I might have gotten more classic flavors. I am hoping to brew a batch tomorrow with freshly harvested wet hops.
Fantastic video! Love your pacing and giving me all the info I need to do it myself.

I'm making my first batch as I type. Using my own Golden Cascade hops. 2nd year growing hops.
Great video as always, must be very satisfying to grow your own hops and then use them in your own beer :)

I Feel weird drinkin too much hoppy beer or even hop water. Do you?
I have not ever noticed any "weird" feeling from hoppy beers or hop water...except from the alcohol.
