Yay!!! I’m so glad that y’all enjoyed it. In the live lounge performers sing 2 songs (a cover and one of their songs). I do believe Sabrina and Chappel are friends as they performed last Christmas together on Sabrina’s Netflix Christmas special (amazing cover btw)
You know, I loooove sabrina but I was a little underwhelmed by her tiny desk. I feel like I've heard her voice much better live, but I chalked it up to the fact that she's been tourin
The way Sabrina slowed down the first verse and did the first chorus an octave lower was just GORGEOUS 😍😍😍 This is what a good cover is supposed to do. It pays homage to the original, but introduces/shines a light on an entirely new interpretation of the original. Happy you guys appreciated it as it's own thing as well. I hate people who force a comparison with a cover!
As other people have mentioned Chappell and Sabrina are friends but also they are on the same record label. Who’s ever idea it was for Sabrina to cover this worked perfectly. Sabrina was the bigger star at the time and this performance was a lot of people’s first exposure to a Chappel song including mine. Then Chappell performed this song two days later on the Tonight Show and I tuned in to watch that just based on this performance. I’ve been a huge Chappell fan ever since.
Yeah, Chappell's studio version is much more up-tempo and upbeat than Sabrina's cover on the first half. The best way I can describe it is that the original has a distinct 80s synth vibe with glam rock overtones, while Sabrina turns it into a soft ballad, then pop country bop 😊
Yes her and Chappell are friends and they’ve also performed together on Sabrina’s Netflix Christmas special. I love both Sabrina and Chappells version of this song.
So the format of the BBC Live Lounge gigs are that an artist typically performs one or two of their most recent songs and then they do a cover track as well. Taylor Swift did that in the set you reacted to where she covered Phil Collins' Can't Stop Loving You that you guys reacted to a few months ago. In Taylor's case, she did an extended Live Lounge session special that featured a few more songs from her then latest album, Lover. And then per the BBC Live Lounge tradition, included a cover song. I think Sabrina also did Please Please Please in the same session as this cover for her own song performance. I've been obsessed with the BBC Radio 1 Live Lounge Sessions literally since just before 30 Seconds To Mars covered Rihanna's Stay 🥰 they have produced some of the most incredible artists covering some of the most unexpected and OUTSTANDING covers!

@@itsjustus.itsjustlove I completely agree but I still think it’s a fun performance nonetheless and her humor kills me
