    There is a Knot known to trappers that is used for Snaring called a Pederson knot that locks when it's pulled tight. Plastic coated cable used in beading will be Superior to fishing line. Pro Trapper for 30 Yrs!

    I learned some good things from your video! I have an improvement for you. From my fishing experience I would never trust the type of knot that you tied but you could eliminate this worry if you tie a simple overhand knot at the end of the line. This will keep the end of the line from slipping through the knot at it will now have a bump/knot that will not slip through the main that you have thus not coming untied. I am an avid fisherman so I have tied and tried many types of fishing line. Trilene XT it by far the best for abrasion resistance and breakage. You could also use floracarbon but it is shiny and may scare the birds away. Do not paint the line as it will keep it from slipping closed.

    I made quite a few BC traps in college while studying raptors. I don't understand the use of the bicycle rim, just added work. We weighed our traps down so a large Red Tail couldn't pick it up and fly off with it. Making the bottom flat and the top domed with the weights on the bottom allowed us to drop them from a vehicle on country roads and they would sit perfectly upon deployment. Banded many hawks this way all the way back in 1983-1986. Good video.

      I too have used several types of trap, and by no means am I saying that this trap works any better than any other, it's just what I use, or at least currently. It's like you wearing Adidas and me wearing New Balance, just personal preference! Thanks for watching and commenting!

    • @Rattlerjake1
      @Rattlerjake1 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Actually the rim works very well for thickly weedy spots, makes the trap and "prey" inside more visible. My falconry days were as a teenager (late 60's, early 70's), before the very restrictive laws of today, and I used an old bicycle rim (without tire) painted brown -- most roadways and fields weren't mowed like they are today.

    Thanks for the video, please correct me if I am wrong, in contrast to what you show with the cord, namely pulling the end of the line toward the noose and then lock it to the side of the noose, when you actually set the nooses you pull the end of the line toward the toward the tail of the line and then the first time you lock it to the side of the noose and the second one you lock on the tail of the line.
    What is the correct way to do it?

    I switched to berkely vinyl coated steel leader material (30 lb) several years ago.
    Far more rigid and easier to keep nooses upright.

    • @Rattlerjake1

      Exactly. And the trap must NEVER be left without being watched because it can cause injury to the bird if the nooses are on too long, and makes the bird vulnerable to predators.

    • @Rattlerjake1
      @Rattlerjake1 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      For most birds of prey (except for vultures), it requires a live animal for bait -- mice, finches, chicks, snake, etc. And needs to be something that is on that bird's menu.

    • @falconersapprentice9837
      @falconersapprentice9837 10 ปีที่แล้ว

      It varies according to trap size! I believe mine usually end up with around 20 nooses on them. You basically just want to eyeball it and ask a senior falconer what they think!

      @@falconersapprentice9837 - It is all arbitrary (based on random choice or personal whim, rather than any reason or system!). It's what ever you think you need to snag at least one toe. A 'senior' or 'master' falconer doesn't know the "perfect" number any more than anyone else. The important thing is to have just enough to sparingly cover the trap, and make sure they are not laying flat.

    Avlama tuzağına noose (ilmik) yapımı hakkında detaylı bilgiler sunulmaktadır.
    Aşağıda, bu sürecin aşamaları ve önemli noktaları belirtilmiştir.
    00:09 - Monofilament İp Kullanımı
    - Monofilament ip kullanımı: Gökdoğan tuzağı için önemli bir unsurdur.
    - Doğru ip seçimi: Monofilament ip, düğüm yapımında gerekli özellikleri taşır.
    - Avantajlar ve Dezavantajlar: İpin kalınlığı ve dayanıklılığı, tuzağın etkinliğini etkileyebilir.
    - İp uzunluğu: Tahmini bir uzunluk kullanmak pratiklik sağlar.
    - Düğüm türleri: Çift granny düğümü ile başka basit düğümler güvenli bir bağ oluşturur.
    02:26 - Düğüm Atma Teknikleri
    - Çift düğüm ve halkalar: Tek ipten nasıl düğüm atılacağını gösterir.
    - Düğüm türleri: Her bir düğüm belirli bir duruma göre seçilmelidir.
    - Düğüm sağlamlığı: Düğümlerin sıkı tutulması gereklidir.
    - Alternatif ip türleri: Monofilament ve örgü ipleri, avlamak amacıyla karşılaştırılmalıdır.
    - İp özellikleri: Monofilamentin esnek yapısı, avın hareketlerini algılama konusunda hassasiyet kaybına neden olabilir.
    05:00 - İp Boyutunun Önemi
    - Boyut ayarlaması: İp boyutu hedef kuş türüne göre değişiklik göstermelidir.
    - İp türleri: Monofilament hızlı kapanır, örgü ip daha sıkı tutar.
    - Uygun ip seçimi: Tuzak yaparken sağlamlık ve dayanıklılık önemlidir.
    07:03 - Düğüm Yerleştirmenin Önemi
    - Düğüm yerleştirme: Doğru düğüm yerleştirme, etkili yakalamak için kritiktir.
    - Mesafe ayarı: Düğümlerin arası doğru mesafeyle ayarlanmalıdır.
    - Kontrol gerekliliği: Düğümlerin sürekli kontrol edilmesi, avın yakalanma oranını artırır.

      Maybe you should just go over to your neighbor who OWNS them and ask for some! Rollers are NOT usually wild birds, they are domestically raised. You probably mean rock doves or feral pigeons, and they are not usually stupid enough to "attact"! You can usually talk with a wildlife removal service and they will give you all of the pigeons that they remove from buildings.

    • @captrockcodak1094
      @captrockcodak1094 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      PowWowVA yes, but I think you need a falconry permit

    • @Rattlerjake1
      @Rattlerjake1 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      YES. Because falconers sometimes need them to repair broken feathers on their birds. Almost anyone can have feathers or a mounted bird of prey if you get a permit from your state wildlife department. When I was doing taxidermy, I would sometimes find, or people would bring me roadkill hawks and owls and I would contact my local game officer (who I knew well), and he would inspect the bird (to ensure it wasn't shot), and help me obtain a permit. Usually a few feathers are not a problem, but the skull, legs, or complete wings need to be permitted -- it's based on where and how they were obtained. Some states won't permit period!

      WRONG you dufus! A noose is -- "a loop with a running knot, tightening as the rope or wire is pulled and typically used to hang people or trap animals." If you want to get technical, each type of noose has it's own name, like hangman's noose (with a hangman's knot) -- something you should use!

    Hmmm. Not sure why you are sharing this. This should be shares shared sponsor to apprentice. Your falconry brothers may not want you to share so a random dummy can trap a bird. Dissapointed.

      This information has been available for MANY years. Most falconry books have it in them, and most falconry supply businesses will provide it. These traps are also used for catching other kinds of birds like shrikes, crows, and magpies. etc.
