The 2024 Subaru Crosstrek gets a lot right, but it also gets things head scratching-ly wrong…
The 2.0L boxer engine is very slow, but it has a functional interior. The technology is average at best and missing at worst, but the ride quality is (mostly) very good. The boot space practicality is very poor, while the looks are fantastic. There's a lot of push and pull with the Subaru Crosstrek, but considering it exists in an extremely competitive small-to-mid-size SUV market it makes it quite tough to recommend. In today's review we're going to go through the good, the bad and the ugly with the 2024 Subaru Crosstrek wagon!

Think your fly is undone Matt 😂
Just a note, symmetrical in Subaru speak refers to the symmetrical drive train positioning, not front/rear split.
agree
Love the content. But the symmetrical in Subaru symmetrical AWD does not refer to the power split. It refer to the way the drive train laid out In the car. With equal length axles from the diffs to the wheels.
We own a Forester and love it , that said if Subaru put a turbo on the 2.0 litre or slotted in the 2.4 I’d seriously look at the Crossteck . It’s a much better size for us.
Some markets the come with the 2.4 not having that eng in Aus was a deal breaker me when i was in the market for a compact suv
No Crosstrek has ever come with the 2.4 but America and Canada have the 2.5 in the top trim levels.
Is the fly undone at the beginning of the video?
How about the Yaris cross 2024 hybrid? Where
That's a very poorly designed zipper. Sorry to hear about Jacob's misfiring piston but it's good to talk about these things.
I ran the rails off of 12 year old impreza with a CVT... had no problems with it I just took delivery on the limited with a 2.5 L engine it is markedly better than the prior generation in terms of cabin noise Road feel and seat comfort... an awesome car in the winter that saved my life once and insofar as high performance I'll let my Porsche 911 Carrera and my Saab Turbo 900 do the rest.
I think you guys sort of missed the point of this car...
I agree 100%
And they still do not offer rear vents that too in Australian Heattttttttttttttt
You dont buy this for drag racing
It is great town car with great safety features
TH-cam is definitely the correct platform for videos about Jacob’s piston.
THANK YOU WIPERTECH!!
Peep the big as fly noise at 1:50 good ol Aussie summer 😂
Dude I hope u know ur videos show up as kids videos
Not enough power, CVT and no rear air con vents. Shame as could of been a great family car.
There are vents under the seats that direct air into the rear foot wells.
Still worthy of considering I'd say, it's a perfect town car, goes okay off-road for what it is, and in my eyes far more characterful than a Corolla Cross.
Power is not the issue it's torque. No turbo.
It's also the way the CVT uses the torque. It tries to row the car along on the available torque (for economy) rather than readily drop down to a lower ratio. This is particularly noticable going up hills. The solution is to flick into manual mode and flappy paddle down one hit. Instant pick up without flooring the throttle. I have a 2022 2.0 XV and don't find power to be an issue, but the reluctance to readily drop ratio's (without flooring the throttle) is definitely something that needs improving.
Wow that that was a lot of ads.
Corolla Cross is extremely low rent and the power delivery is no more impressive. The only thing going for it is the bigger boot where as this looks better, rides better and can do some off road adventures or pavement hopping.
I honestly dont think this version will sell well. If it was a 4cyl turbo with a DCT and the AWD then it would ( I would make that $10000 more as thats worth that over this ) the only real way I see this selling is if it is a lease car. Even put the 2.5 with a turbo that would be a really good wagon then. for this money and you wanted a family wagon hauler, id just go to a really nice spec used suv.
I think cvts are a lot nicer to drive then dcts
Come on Subaru put in the 2.4T, GIVE IT AN XT BADGE!!!
They’re sending the WRX Layback for that.
So I saw this TH-cam video, and several others, criticise the allegedly under powered engine on this 2.0R Crosstrek. Then I drove 2 of these cars. A friends, and then a demo car at a Dealer. I literally laughed and came to conclusion ALL of these car reviewers are petrol heads who want a racing car and routinely speed on Aussie roads. This car is no petrol gusssling racer but has more than adequate power and acceleration for the average driver. It doesn't need a 2.5L engine. I wouldn't recommend this car for a family of 4 but it's great as is for a single person or couple. Contrary to this review it's also quiet, doesn't whine and has excellent boot space. After laughing at this review I bought the 2.0R Crosstrek :)
Unfortunately as a Subaru tragic, I have to agree about engine 😢
I dont think a car this size should honestly need air vents in the back. The front vents would be enough to cool the car down fast enough.
No back vents is always cost cutting
Hopefully, you are in a very very very cooooool part of Australia 🥶🥶🤣🤣🤣 if you are living in Australia
Do you think it will be a good car for someone to learn how to drive in?
Sure would be! The AWD will make it hold traction well, and engine is slow enough to be very beginner friendly
Too slow for learners. Get a Jolion S or Haval GT H6
@@CarSauce thank you
@@joshantonio6894 yeah I don’t really want a Havel because I was in one in Malaysia and I didn’t enjoy it. It didn’t make me go. Oh my gosh I want to buy one of these right now
@@joshantonio6894 and I also would like a car that actually has some safety equipment because of my disability that’s what I need
Have the "engineers" and "designers" just given up, is anyone buying these things?
U.K. Crosstrek gets a 20L with just 134 BHP, pathetic. Give us a 2.5 and I would buy one.
A turbo version would sell so well
Didn’t even take it off-road
Why is your pants zip undone
Guess..
I had the Crosstrek S and the Mazda CX-30 G20 Astina as my final contenders. Similar features, with Mazda having a HUD and back air vents.
The Mazda trumped all over the Subaru. I struggled to over take in the Subaru on 110km freeways.
I honestly think the Crosstrek is cool too! Though power and cargo space are definite weaknesses.
Who knows if they'll bring the Crosstrek Wilderness over here, but i do hope that if they do, they'll consider giving it a turbo engine, or bringing the 2.5L engine that American-built Crosstreks get.
I’d rather go for tank 300 spending that much money
Im so glad that I bought a Fozy N not a Crosstrek.
Crap car but love your reviews!
horrible car to drive. couldnt give this back to dealer quick enough. i like subarus but couldnt believe how bad this is. ended up buying the xt outback
