    I've been a forklift tech for 5 years now. The company I work for now is a pretty good place for the most part. I started looking into starting my own business back in 2020 but the pandemic but a halt to that. I may pursue it again though. I know there is demand for independent forklift techs who can charge less since they don't have the overhead costs like dealers. Kudos to you for becoming your own boss!

      Thank you sir. I highly recommend being independent, it’s the best choice I ever made. But don’t charge too low either, know your worth and trust in your experience. Most of us independent guys are worth more than dealers. And be fair and honest always. Always tell the truth and know when you can’t fix something. People respect that.

      @@theforkliftguyIf you don't mind me asking, where do you get parts from? I looked at a couple of sites that seemed a little sketchy. Also, is there a way to get parts breakdowns for ordering parts. Right now, I just tell our Parts Dept what I need and they figure it out.

      @@aarona7089 I work on a lot of Toyotas, so I order OEM from then and they also can get me parts for any lift. The parts guy there is awesome. He’s helped me out a lot. Forklift parts in Miami is also a good place to buy parts, a lot cheaper. TVH is an after market supplier but you need to be in business for at least 1 year.

    • @aarona7089
      @aarona7089 8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@theforkliftguyI knew there was a reason why I couldn't use TVH. I forgot about having to be in business for 1 year. I'll have to check out Forklift Parts in Miami. I'm starting to re-visit the idea of going independent. Probably start out doing jobs on the weekends to build a customer base. Thanks for your advice, I appreciate it 👍

    Pipe wrench is correct but more specifically I believe it’s a Swedish style pipe wrench. Not that it matters haha thanks for the truck tour!

    Congratulations on working for yourself. I’ve been a forklift tech for over a decade, and was wondering what the jump to “self employment” was like.

    • @theforkliftguy
      @theforkliftguy  8 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      It’s not an easy jump but it’s definitely doable. I’d 100% recommend it. Being your own boss is worth its weight in gold. If you have good connections and you’ve established relationships with local suppliers, the jump is easy. Building your customer base isn’t difficult if you know what you’re doing.

    Nice job man! Question where do you dump your oil?

    • @theforkliftguy
      @theforkliftguy  8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Great question, our county has a place where you can go dump your oil. I don’t dump that much so they don’t complain. But if I was dumping a lot, they will complain.
