I recently learned of crop sensors and how I have to adjust my distances. I have an a6000. My 50mm 1.8 oss is great for headshots. I have to be in the street for a full body shot for a subject on a sidewalk. Is a 24mm or 35mm my go to to be a bit closer?

Brooo no wtf. The 50mmf1.2 is irrelevant to your decision. If you prioritise sharpness and fast AF go for the 135. If you prioritise round bokeh and versatility go for 85mm F1.4. The difference in field of view is not that big, tho the difference in the distance you need to have between your model is quite significant
It was yesterday I was talking about the 135mm for Sony and sigma. I want to get this or the 70-200 f4. I'm still thinking about it. I really need it for wedding ceremonies and not necessarily for portraits. But if I get the 135mm I am sure I will be doing a lot of portraits with it. But I love my Rokinon AF 85mm f/1.4 Great video man.

IKE, thanks. For both - compression & bokeh, the 200mm f/2 (CaNikon ; costs a fortune) is one helluva lens for headshots & full-body portraiture, if distance is not a problem. It's not pocket-friendly, so rich shooters can skip the 135 and jump straight to 200/2. Sony still doesn't make 200, 300, 500, & 800mm primes for FE mount.
Btw, I like how you use that 135. I have the 85 1.8 and 70-200 G Master. I would like to have the 135 but like you said "if you have the 70-200, you can substitute.."
Battle of the Bokeh, the 135 looks awesome, but I feel like if I ever wanted to do something pushed in smaller space I'd have to sledgehammer some walls. The 85 looks fantastic too so I think I'm going to add it to my cart!
The DroneMonkey it is a great portrait lens. One of the best. Just make sure you are in areas that give you a good amount of space to back up if you want to do full body shots.

I shoot with the 85mm f/1.8 Sony lens on an A6500 or A6400 which is an equivalent 127.5mm f/2.5 - I also have an 85mm f/1.8 Canon lens which, when adapted with my Vitrox EF-Eii focal reducer becomes an 85mm f/1.3 lens with no significant crop factor on an APSC Sony e-mount camera...
The 50mm can be used for portraits but it is not the traditional portrait focal length that most experts recommend. Usually, people recommend 85mm and up for more flattering portraits. The 85mm f1.8 is an option and I mentioned it, but It's not a G-Master and that was the theme of the video. The 100mm is cool and has pretty bokeh, but it's an f2.8 and the T-Stop is f5.6. Might as well have a 70-200 for all that. Plus the STF 100 is not a very popular lens.

Sorry but what you said in the video was just not true and I am sure that you did not mean it that way. I am just not understanding what exactly you meant by the statement that those two GM's are the only native portrait lenses available. There is the 90mm f2.8 macro (the 'expert' Miguel Giles has a video for portraiture about that), the 24-70GM (that was actually another magazine cover shoot I have done, actually a few), the 55 f1.8 (you know who uses that one for weddings). They are all excellent portrait lenses.
That 135 is Dope so I bought one and love it My hope is that Sony comes out with a VII of the 85 1.4 because the one you're using is old and slow compared to the new 135mm How about that 24mm f/1.4 ? you gonna get it when you can? Another epic video Regards, Rick

@@Photomeike I know I actually have a old sears 135mm 2.8 manual lens that my uncle randomly gave me last month & I adapted it to my A7II , I've only tested it a few times haven't had a chance to use it on a photoshoot yet but I'm used to standing back for photos I did a outside wedding with a 300mm f 2.8 last weekend & only used the 85mm for the full wedding party shots & the inside reception.

Yeah the 135 is definitely more of an intentional focal length because of how much working distance it requires. I also did a video on my channel using the Sigma 105 vs the 135 if you want to see more images with the 135. I’m a fan of the focal length but it’s not something you can just like pick up and use anytime you want like you can with the 85.

Always use a UV filter so you don’t damage nor wear out the lens costing
