You might wonder whether I'd like to go back to the news... while I miss certain parts of it, I'd have to say no. In this season of life, the main way I want to spend my time is raising my kids... and I love getting to do my TH-cam channel- it's incredibly fulfilling and fun. News hours aren't the easiest with a family... early mornings or late nights, and often holidays, too. But it was an AWESOME learning experience for me, and really helped me grow as a person and in my understanding of others. I'm so grateful to those who took a chance on me and gave me the opportunity to be part of an awesome team!

I remember your first anchor make up tutorial. I was battling depression and anxiety bc my brother was on his deathbed. That Milani eyeliner is the TRUTH. The best hands down. My eyelids get oily sometimes and this eyeliner doesn’t budge one bit!

I might have to give that a try. My eyelids get so oily through the day to the point wear it actually gets in my eyes and stings. The liner would always give me black rings so I just quit wearing eyeliner.

I have a problem with mascara smudging. Even IT Cosmetic flakes on me. My DH gave me a gift card for lash extensions and I’ve been getting them ever since. It IS pricey, but I can go into work without makeup (on those days when I’m rushed), apply a little color to the lips, and bam.
My problem is I’m hard wired that lashes go on last and it’s hard to do an eye look with long, fluttery lashes already there. Oh no, the horror! Lol. But seriously, my eyes are watery and that messes with the look (with or without extensions).
A lot of us who hate being in front of the camera are now forced to due to working from home and having to attend video conferencing. Laptop and mobile phone cameras aren't the most flattering. This was very helpful! Thank you. ❤️

Just graduated with my degree in journalism! I’m mostly print and audio but I did some broadcast classes where I had to produce, anchor the weather, be a live reporter, and edit the newscast all while social distancing and in quarantine! By far the toughest thing I’ve ever done in my college career but I loved it! As someone who loves makeup, I spent extra time to make sure I looked presentable for when I anchored :) loved this so much!
So much of what you have to say here is *invaluable* info for theater lovers as well as people who work in TV! Most importantly, thank you for sharing your heart with us as always. Anytime you do a beginner tutorial, it reminds me of listening to older female family members talk me through makeup as a teenager, and it’s so comforting. ❤️

I started watching you right around when I got my first news job. It didn’t work out for different reasons. But you’re still in an inspiration to me. You show me it’s possible to find a niche you’re good at and brings you joy. Plus I like how your news education influenced your approach to products. You test the product, spend time with it, then produce a thought out and researched piece to your viewers.

I just keep thinking about how hard it was to go from doing stage makeup to studio makeup. Theater stage lighting washed you out so much you needed to go overboard-- you look like clown close up. And then studio lighting also washes you out, but not nearly as much... so you can't look like a clown close up or you will on camera too. It really is a fine line between the lighting and the makeup. The makeup is always going to seem slightly too intense off set, but on set you won't be able to tell at all. Wow. Did not realize I had so many thought on this hahaha. Thanks for this one Emily! I loved it.
THANK YOU! I used to do modeling, stage acting & public speaking for years. Recently I haven't & therefore didn't need the heavier make up. Thanks to you mentioning the zoom & video meetings because I'm doing those recently due to the pandemic. I was wondering why I looked dead..... Now I know why. The first "makeup videos" I began watching were actually by our local Cincinnati anchor, Bob Herzog, who does a daily "WakeUps and MakeUps" on himself and chats with viewers through his videos; it's an addictive watch for sure, and I believe it was prompted by the whole HD tv thing. He does a quick polish before the 4:35 am start time (UGH!). Looking polished is always a nice thing. I had no idea you had done your local morning news, how demanding that had to be! Great video!

Interesting! This is great too for girls who don't have mom's to teach them makeup. Or that could be another video? My mom passed away when I was 5. The only person who taught me anything about makeup was my great grandma. She taught me how lipstick can be used as blush. The 1940s were her time.

I just re-purchased the Milani Eye primer after using urban decay for a couple of years. I was finding that the urban decay product irritated my eyes, but I really wanted something that had some color to it and wasn’t just just clear. So what I’ve been doing is putting a teeny tiny bit of concealer on my eyelids and then putting the eye primer over top of that. It’s perfect. My eyes aren’t irritated, my eyeshadow stays on and goes on beautifully. Hooray

I just enjoyed watching the makeup application. Right now it's interesting to see the newscasters working from home and doing their own makeup, whereas before they might have had a makeup artist to it for them in studio.

Nice look! A lot of folks do the dark crease last, but I think you have a good plan to put the dark on first, blend it out, then add the other colors.

L’Oréal Double Extend Mascara is also a tubing formula and has an accompanying primer. The primer is quite important because it conditions the lashes and works with the mascara. I haven’t seen smudging OR flaking because it’s a very different formula than a fiber mascara.
Nyx has pencils called “off white “ and they are pale colors for your waterlines

I do agree with u Emily when u said that news women can go overboard with bronzer. Same goes for blush and powder. It’s easy for anyone to go ham w/ those products but it does take away from the story being told. I wonder how news anchors are dealing w/ the news now a days bc it all seems so sad
