- Hi.Over the past few months, I've gotten a lot of requests for a longform exploration of how I like to use the Tape and Microsound Music Machine for ambient music making.
This is less of a tutorial, more of a walkthrough.
Here is the case I'm using: blackholecases.com
A few folks have asked what my options.txt file looks like. Here are the exact contents:
vsop 0 ///Varispeed option: 0 bidirectional classic, 1 bidirectional 1 v/oct, 2 positive only - 1 v/oct.
inop 1 //Input option: 0 record SOS mix, 1 record input only
pmin 0 //Phase/position modulation: 0 no phase modulation, 1 phase playback modulation on right signal input when no signal on left input
omod 0 //Organize option: 0 organize at end of gene, 1 organize immediately
gnsm 0 //Gene smooth: 0 classic, 1 smooth gene window
rsop 0 //Record option: 0 record + splice = record new splice, record = record current splice; 1 record + splice = record current splice, record = record new splice
pmod 0 //Play option: 0 classic, 1 momentary, 2 trigger loop
ckop 0 //Clock control option: 0 hybrid gene shift time stretch, 1 gene shift only, 2 time stretch only
cvop 0 //CV out: 0 envelope follow, 1 ramp gene
mcr1 2.00000 //Morph Chord Ratio: 0.06250 to 16.00000, negative is reverse
mcr2 0.50000 //Morph Chord Ratio: 0.06250 to 16.00000, negative is reverse
mcr3 -1.00000 //Morph Chord Ratio: 0.06250 to 16.00000, negative is reverse - เพลง

I love these focused (all same manufacturer) module setups.
so clearly explained and what gorgeous tones
Thank you for stopping by!
Very well done all around, thank you 👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽
Thanks for this! Looking forward to more videos with this system 🧡
Thanks for watching!
awesome patch! nice arragement of the Make Noise Tape & Microsound Music Machine modules :)
perfect start of the year! thank you!
really love the system in the little black hole case, been really considering mimicking this
Love your approach! Beautiful sounds. Hope you make more full-length videos with this system.
Thank you! I’ll do it.
Learned a ton from this and love the sounds too. A+
black belt content. thanks a lot.
This is helpful. Thanks for the descriptive narrative.
I have some of these M.N. modules. Love em.
I like granular, so the Morphegine looks cool. Like your description of it.
Also like your point about having a focused set up.
I have a few smaller cases, that I pluck things from my big case, to populate, and experiment with in the back patio.
Best wishes for your continued success/fun, with electronic music 🎶🌎☮
Thanks for this! Been looking at the Tape & Microsound system for a while now, and this video makes it seem a lot less complicated/daunting. Also, how big (HP-wise) is your Blackhole case?
60hp I think
Awesome -- its like a whole bunch of guitar pedals -- but more expressive and expensive
Lovely!
wish i had this video back when i was learning the Morphagene!!
you are too kind, Fed!
very nice
The tea is getting cold!
Excellent video Matt, as always. I’m curious about the initial guitar sounds you got into morphagene. They’re really compressed and crisp sounding. Any special sauce there?
Thank you! I believe it was a Les Paul into a Strymon Iridium, then compressed with Fab Filter Pro-C
Sounds like a Chase Bliss pedal.
This is amazing! Are you able to share your text file for Morphagene?
I’m not sure how I would do that on here, but I’m happy to share any info you’d like to know!
@@mattlowerymusic it's just little bit of text, should fit in a comment no problem
It's in the video description now@@dirthawk
Very nice 👍 I was checking out the Black Hole cases today. Is there a reason you went with the 4ms row 45 instead of the Black Hole power supply?
Not necessarily!
Hey matt, have you tried a lot of different output modules? I have intell and joranalogue Tx2. Is there a reason you like monitor? I was looking at addac 800x and there smaller form factor because of built in transformers.
Hey man could you also share what you put in the text file that moves 1 increment set by the gene size like you showed in the video thats amazing.
I won't say a *lot*, but of the ones I have tried, I've liked monitr the best. It's so intuitive and performance-friendly, and is built like a tank. Also, I just pasted my options.txt file into the description if you want to check it out. The hybrid gene stretch thing is the default option.
@@mattlowerymusic dude your awesome. Your one of the main reasons i got into modular. Is the audio fidelity good by chance on monitor? I was split between that and transmit 2 and chose tx2 from the review perspective. Will have to look into monitor. Thanks for the txt file!!!
@@joeymc5272 yeah, monitr sounds great. But you also can't go wrong with Joranalogue- top notch stuff there as well. I wouldn't sweat it, both are great.
Alright thanks a lot man. Hopefully you do more tutorial on your racks. Love learning these tricks from your videos
where is the clock coming from which clocks morphagene??
Maths!
V_ger must join with the creator 😜👽👾
How and in what way do you change the code on the Sd card!
It’s just a text file on the sd card. You open it on the computer and save your changes and the module reads those when it boots back up
@@mattlowerymusic yes, I understand that. But it is not clear what you are changing it to and which line you are changing😀
I just posted the contents of the file in the description@@rjschrei
Where'd you get the custom knobs?
thonk
I was gonna listen to this whole thing but it’s a lot of dialogue and I just wanted to hear the performance.
Skip to the end! There’s a few minutes of just jamming
