Dr. Gabriel Cousens did a study that shown that raw cacao didnt harm the liver. - a study published in the October 2009 issue of "Food and Chemical Toxicology" indicates that rats fed cacao demonstrated improvement in liver injuries Two alsmost valid studys and there are no valid studys on that raw cacao harm the liver YET.

Too much cacao drives me nuts. Very good video, great info. I just wanted a reminder that this stuff is only good from time to time, and in moderation. Thanks for reminding me. I've had too much of "a good thing" for past few days, and it has affected me in a bad way.

One of the best presented videos about the pros and cons of cacao.
Fun fact, tribal amazonian women use the leaf and other parts the last trimester of pregnancy. My hypothesis is due to its high magnesium content, it may prevent eclampsia.(just my opinion) So don't throw it out completely, there is still much to be learned in spite of human nature regarding this food.

Everything this guy said is purely anecdotal...
"From my experience, it's not nutrient dense at all". What? That's not how it works.
Science proves it is nutrient dense. If you guys are believing the suggestions from this video you will believe anything. I'm still unsure about cacao so it would be nice to have some scientific studies pointing to the negative affects on it.

probably the best explanation to avoid being sucked into the raw cacao pushers!

i would assume abusing cacao would give addictive tendencies and withdrawal symptoms.. but also not respecting the plant's spirit effects your relationship with cacao. respect plants more, especially if thats all you eat.

I was thinking withdrawal from cacao might be from the phenelthylamine in cacao. I know when I eat a lot of cacao it's always that good lovey-dovey feeling that I miss when I don't have it.
I still eat it though. It doesn't seem too bad to me, at least for now. :p

In my experience raw cacao bean powder has given other fruits a better taste, But by it self its gross. It has a similar, yet much milder effect on the liver with coffee. It simply dilates the liver helping with detoxing. The bean does in fact have a good amount of magnesium and iron. Anything with that purple pigment is going to be insane with antioxidants. Also, Fermenting is still raw. It almost seems as if some people are salty about others making money in raw food world. Don't be salty, we need more people in the health food world and that is going to come with profit with some and not others. I'm alittle salty too but we live in a capitalist time period. Also, Dogs and a lot other mammals also can't eat grapes, other purple pigment foods, and other fruits and veggies that you advocate so dearly. John it seems sometimes that you are so close minded about anything that might shift consciousness like cannabis or cacao that it is almost immature. That aside, I love you.

Informed choices! Thanks Jeremy and John... Jeremy's farm home is so pleasant. Its lovely to see you both on Maui.
Obviously the south and central americans brewed the cacao. Its much more delicious to me, with the fruit on it.
Cacao beans are so bitter its unlikely any one or thing would eat too many of them at once. The sprouted dried beans with the fruit on them that are purple are certainly the best ever.
    Awesome OK Raw Issue
    Fresh is best
    grow your own.

Thanks to Paul Nison I never tried it. I'll stick with carob for any chocolate flavorings I need.
Very brave for the guy to come forward and thanks John for the video.
    Blessings to all of you!

Tell me more about Capuasu. I've been looking for this fruit and tree in Costa Rica and haven't found it. No one knows about it. I'd like to plant it on my farm.

There are little efforts in cacao to see the great potential the rest of the plant has to offer, just the seed. One time I met a mexican chef who is using the pod to dry them and mix it with typical mexican sauces. It was delicious! Also it can be used as flour. So the real deal is to see what the pod has to offer nutritionally. Obviously, we have to use only pods which from an organic certified farm.

You guys explain nothing of the industrial processing that may be the root cause of unwanted effects. I'm interested in knowing what you consider "raw" as well. All I see here in this video is you guys using hopelessly misleading generalizations that circumvent the many ways cocoa is processed, and then inevitably which one of those processes may or may not be the culprit in experiencing undesirable effects in the body. Consider a more in depth presentation before whisking people away from a potentially healthy product.
