Today, getting what you need is as easy as a trip to the store. From food to clothing, energy, medicine, and so much more, Andy George will discover what it takes to make everything from scratch. His mission is to understand the complex processes of manufacturing that is often taken for granted and do it all himself. Each week he’s traveling the world to bypass the modern supply chain in order to harvest raw materials straight from the source. Along the way, he’s answering the questions you never thought to ask.

I really like the way Mecixans speak Spanish. Having learnt it at school, I can quite easily understand everything they're saying, unlike in Barcelona or not to even mention Andalusian Spanish.

    • @albmaralb

Obviously that's because in America Spanish speakers are Latin Americans, so teachers re used to speak that way, then non-spanish speakers learn from them and get used to that way of speaking.

I've had the chance to taste chocolate seeds from the fruit as well, though my guide told me not to eat the seed in the middle (probably wasnt ripe enough or he was mistaken), so just ate the flesh, and it's surprising but i loved it : the texture is close to litchi, and the taste is like a sweet (indeed) pineapple taste, with hints of mango. So pretty awesome. Made me love chocolate even more.

Coco fruit? You mean CACAO FRUIT. It baffles me,; this is theobroma cacao, not coco nor cocoa, since when there is cocoa tree?
Therefore, there is no such a thing as coco nor cocoa beans, I saw some video where people call it cocoa nib, cocoa butter, cocoa liquor etc.
This is funny and strange because only English-speaking person name it that way, for the rest of the world it is cacao powder rather it is processed or not, unrefined or refined especially cacao butter which have been and still is called cocoa butter from the English-speaking person!!! Unbelievable!

Next time I'm at a supermarket, following his example, I'm going to say that an apple tastes like an orange, or that a grapefruit tastes like an apricot, or that a pineapple tastes like a raspberry. So yeah, keep up the good work!! :/

The way you were holding that machete, I suspect your smallest finger got one heck of a blister.

I really like your videos! Good story, well cut, nice music, and good chosen farmers to talk to...all very nice. Unfortunately, even though I speak English very well, I have a hard time understanding you at some parts of the video because you rush through your texts. That is especially strong when you talk about the farms you go to at 1:30 ongoing. Now, as you have chosen to make the videos longer, you might want to consider making them even a few seconds longer just by speaking more unhurried. That would make your great videos even greater!

@Christoph Hornig, you can slow the video speed down to help you understand. I do this often. Lower right side of video frame- see the gear icon? Click that to find the speed control.

amazing content! can't believe you have so few subs and views. Subbed and binge watching your channel right now. Keep some awkwardness in the future :) although for now, less would maybe be better

One pod produces about 2 ounces

No, he was referring to a single pod which can produce about 2 oz of chocolate. In a year the entire tree can produce around 20 pounds of beans.

We used to have lots of cacao trees back in the day in my childhood . We just eat it and spit the seeds. We didn't know that chocolate came from cacao seeds back then. I totally regret it now.
