A remarkably meditative performance of Verdi's Requiem.
This is a live performance where you can appreciate the acoustics. Verdi's Requiem Mass, which was performed at the Cathedral of Milan, Italy on 2020/09/04, actually sounded like the long reverberation of the cathedral at first, causing the orchestra and choir to still When four soloists are giving their best, all the sounds are a bit (sticky), which feels like a shortcoming. But after listening to it for a long time, I feel that it is both a shortcoming and an advantage. The first is that you can feel the real presence in the cathedral. Next, you can taste the feeling of the human voice echoing over the solemn cathedral after the movement ends❤️, be sure to listen with a good speaker!
I fell in love with Elina Garanca when she sang in the Rigoletto quartet with Anna Netrebko. She is so exotically beautiful, has the voice of an angel, and sings like no one else in the world. Just mesmerizing is this mezzo soprano and a great gift to the whole galaxy.

@@Shahrdad You are right, but she is not young any more. I heard her 15 years ago in Munich, and her voice was very nice.

The place is maybe not adequate but the tenor is much less adequate. Embarrassing
It's always disappointing to me when the soprano has a fuller mid-low and chest register than a mezzo. Ms. Garanca is indeed a beautiful woman but this is not for her fach.

Good morning from Birmingham UK - I am thinking that this wonderful performance took place when Italy was reeling from hundreds of Covid deaths - the occasional shots of the audience suggests people seeking solace from the terrible effects of the pandemic - the fantastasic performers seem to be braving the dangers of infection to give solace at that frightful time - some years later remembering those frightful circumstances brings poignancy to Verdi's tremendous music - best wishes

Credo che la scelta del Duomo per questa esecuzione, che a mio avviso è stupenda, abbia voluto sottolineare la dimensione religiosa del Requiem che nel Teatro alla Scala, certamente più idoneo dal punto di vista scenico e tecnico, talvolta passa in secondo piano.

Choir and musiciens are absolutely fenomenous ! Soliste soprano is just a little bit too high on very high notes, but her low notes are so rich. Whaouu ❤
Merci à Sra Mosquiz de nous faire bénéficier de cette captation. L'oeuvre est tellement difficile à interpréter qu'elle n'est pas donnée si souvent. Les forces de la Scala et Riccardo Chailly sont évidemment ici dans leur élément et sont à la hauteur de leur réputation. Malgré une folle réverbération d'au moins huit secondes (on s'en rend compte à 14' 27"), les ingénieurs du son ont fait des miracles. Mais pour réussir pleinement ce Requiem, il faut immanquablement un quatuor de solistes de premier plan; et là, le compte n'y est pas. Le ténor, tout d'abord, bénéficie plutôt d'un beau timbre, ce qui n'est pas si courant chez les ténors, et il est capable de nuances très délicates; mais nul doute que, s'il avait été payé au glissando, il aurait fait fortune ce soir-là. Chaque intervalle montant est systématiquement pris avec un ascenseur, ainsi que nombre d'attaques. Il parvient même à glisser des ports de voix dans des phrases horizontales. Quant au vibrato, il est beaucoup trop présent et instable.
J'ai toujours considéré qu'Elina Garanca était une fausse mezzo et cela me semble tellement évident ici; le bas medium est faible et le grave vraiment pas impressionnant. Dans ce registre bas, la soprano fait largement mieux qu'elle. Si les belles années de Krassimira Stoyanova sont bien derrière elle, elle disposait de tels moyens qu'elle fait bien mieux qu'assurer dans cette partition redoutable. Certes, elle ne parvient pas à donner le "si" pianissimo comme le demande Verdi (1:25') mais le terrible contre-ut est bien là, solide et brillant (1:30'). Et son chant est plein d'émotion.
Quant à la basse René Pape, on peut ne pas apprécier son timbre peu chatoyant mais c'est un grand professionnel qui domine ses moyens (importants) et soigne son phrasé avec élégance., ou véhémence quand c'est nécessaire.
Le long silence qui précède les applaudissement indique à quel point le public (clairsemé pour cause de Covid), est ému par la prestation.
Tutte le esecuzioni, al termine degli ultimi accordi delle trombe, osservano 10/15 secondi di silenzio. È la tradizione.

il Requiem di Verdi è stato eseguito per la prima volta al duomo di milano,e li ritornerà spero spesso nei tempi futuri.
Il Requiem sarà eseguito sicuramente tante altre volte al Duomo, sede ideale e meravigliosa per questo Capolavoro verdiano. La prima esecuzione, datata 22 maggio 1874, è stata data presso la Chiesa di San Marco, non in Duomo

Coro della Scala meraviglioso. Artisti straordinari: dal pianissimo più delicato, quasi sussurrato, al fortissimo più sconvolgente e devastante da far tremare i vetri. Sono sensazionali

Imposible peor escenario para esa obra monumental de Verdi...sin ninguna condición acústica, altísima, llena de columnas y con un porte gigantesco supongo que fue elegida para impresionar con un espectáculo nunca visto...una pena pues con esos solistas, conjuntos y director, habría sido formidable en la Alla Scala situada a 400 mts de distancia...quizá como se oía pues nosotros percibimos una grabación muy buena y no la realidad.

Irgendwie liegen Welten zwischen dem Toscanini/Tebaldi Requiem, auch an der Scala, vor über 70 Jahren und der Aufführung von 2020! Liegt es an der Gesangskrise, die seit einigen Jahrzehnten um sich greift!? Ich kann nur Riccardo Chailly einigermaßen akzeptieren!
