Had one as a rental for a couple months. I absolutely hate General Motors as a whole, but this is the only vehicle they make that I would recommend hands down. This car will save you so much money and it feels like a very solid built vehicle. If i needed transportation with heat and ac, this would be #1 on my list.

Shame they don't make them anymore. These don't have the super unreliable turbo engine that the Cruz/Sonic did. And even though it's a Jatco CVT, these little engines put out such low torque they don't have nearly the same problems as other cars.

    I have my third Spark, a 2020.
I got a 2013 and loved it so when a friend told me a 2014 lavender one was at a local dealer I traded for it. Now I have the 2020. Big selling point was I could pay cash. It doesn't have a timing belt it has a chain, no worries of a ruined motor if belt brakes. I don't trust cvt transmission and get the good old manual again for proven reliability. Manual windows. If I can drive I can work the windows. I would prefer old pushbutton radio. Have to chase stations on that dumb screen when they move around. As far as your comments on seats I never had a problem with firm seats.
The Spark is the only car that isn't a gadget basket, all those add ons don't do a thing but eventually break and add cost.
I got them for as little as 10k for a new 2014. Love the Sparks.

Having a 2014 Spark, I have to say, I actually ENJOY it. My primary car died, and I had to get something inexpensive. I DIDNT want to get a tiny car. But I then decided to make a game out of it. What is the cheapest car, for most bang for the buck, and room. I grudgingly settled on the spark. Honestly it's much more car than I expected. As long as you drive it as INTENDED. And you will have to make driving changes, but it's fun! Don't be a lead foot on the pedal, and the CVT gives no problems. Funny enough, it's so slow at accelerating, you catch yourself going well over 90 on the freeway, a minute or two later, because you don't feel power behind it. No problem passing other cars. It simply takes a little longer. Perfectly fine at elevated highway speeds. Just keep enough space in reserve if you HAVE to brake in an emergency. Brakes work good, but the suspension is light, and gets wonky real quick. Know it's limits, and it's actually a GREAT car, for a single person, or simple living couple. :)

Nice review but I would disagree with your comments about the seats being hard and uncomfortable. Over the summer I drove my Spark from Arizona to Pennsylvania and back (4,000 miles). The seats were fine. I found them adequately comfortable and supportive...no complaints. I would also disagree with your assessment that the car isn't fun to drive. I'm an 80's kid and I grew up driving Honda CRX's and Civic Hatchbacks. My Spark absolutely reminds me of my '86 CRX Si...great handling, solid chassis dynamics, and a Honda-good 5-speed manual gearbox. It's a little street-legal go-kart.

I'm considering this car. I have a complaint though about these reviews, and not just this one. They are always young men giving the reviews and they forget that there are older adults or seniors. I am a senior and this car seems pretty good to me, although I'm not fond of hatchbacks and would prefer a good small sedan, like the Cruze. Love my Cruze, but I'm about up with the lease and they don't make them any more. I can't believe all the car makers are ditching the good old small sedan with a nice big trunk and back seats that easily fold down flat. It's a real bummer. We older folks are not looking for sportiness and luxury (most of us). We're just looking for an inexpensive car to drive around locally, mostly, and that will fit a weeks worth of groceries in the trunk.

    • @ThatOneVideo1

It's an hour excellent car.i bought one thinking I wasn't going to like it at all...I LOVE IT. It's simple, yet solid. If you get a CVT shift rather than a manual, or standard auto, there is a slight learning curve to power delivery. It's not suited for country/bumpy roads, but other than that, everything is light, and crisp, while turning/maneuvering about town/city.

I'm 5'9 and would avoid if any taller than that. Does fine on highway 80-90 mph at 2500 rpm gets 26 MPG average over the last 6k miles or so mostly highway driving. People will not see you and merge into you in their bigger cars so always have to be extra vigilant. Being a car Salesman I took my daughter to get her first brand new car, and she picked the 2020 Chevy Spark. The price tag was great, the engine runs very smooth, and runs about 2k rpm's at 60-65 mph and so far so good with the CVT transmission. She loves the Apple Car Play and the backup camera. The AC blows very cold, it has power windows and locks and alloy wheels. I'm about 6 ft tall and I have plenty of head room, and the safety features put me and my wife at ease when she's got it out on the road. For the money I'd say it's a fantastic car for a college student or for somebody who just wants an affordable car get around in. As a Car Salesman and a parent I give the 2020 Chevy Spark 4.7 stars out of 5

I believe the Spark was designed and manufactured by their Korean division (former Daewoo Motors). Because this car was made to comply to Korea's light car regulations and other global markets, I think GM was able to still offer this car in America. May be American branded, but not really American American. Nevertheless, great review, and I think it's great they're able to offer a surprising amount of good features on this super cheap car!

Turbo kit, exhaust, new tranny, race clutch, tires...It put down around 240hp/300tq to the wheels with the custom tune and was a blast to drive. Would absolutely smoke Hondas, Scions and those types and could hang with some lower powered V8s up to around 80mph. My exhaust wasn't loud or obnoxious, just looked like a standard Focus. Baseless statement. I belong to the Spark FB page...10K members and the car's reliability has been universally praised. One member (Amanda) has a fleet service (all Sparks) and those cars are hitting 250,000 miles each with zero repairs outside of ball joints around 120K. I've owned my Spark for almost 4 years and not a single issue.
