  • Untold Realities of Pakistan's Debt Burden & Economy. ‪@raftartv‬ Podcast with Economist Ammar Habib Khan
Join us for a deep dive into Pakistan's economic landscape with renowned economist Ammar Habib Khan. In this insightful podcast episode, we explore the country's staggering debt situation, Ammar sheds light on the intricacies of Pakistan's domestic and external debt, dissecting the composition and implications of both. Delving into the root causes, he discusses the economy's heavy reliance on imports and consumption-based growth, coupled with a lack of investment in production capacity.
Ammar provides a critical analysis of government policies, particularly regarding subsidies, taxation, and energy prices, highlighting their impact on industrial growth and investor confidence. He elucidates how IMF directives aimed at increasing revenue have inadvertently led to inflated electricity and gas prices, exacerbating the challenges faced by local businesses and hindering foreign investment.
Don't miss this enlightening discussion on Pakistan's economic trajectory, featuring Ammar Habib Khan's expert insights and actionable solutions. Tune in to gain a comprehensive understanding of the challenges and opportunities facing Pakistan's economy and the path forward towards sustainable development.

This is the best interview I have watched till today. This guy is so much talented and explained all the things in much more simple way. Thanks to the host and the guest. Such economists need to be encouraged and pushed to be the part of decision making teams if authorities are really sincere to resolve the issues.

Sir with due respect, you said, corruption money in Pakistani society is not more than 10%, but the data from International.organizations tells that corruption money in Pakistan is more than 45%. If that were not the case, the Pakistani Rupees had not lost its value so fast in the last 20 years. Another indicator is economy had gone in the dark hole.

Going by the stats, if Pakistan doesn't have a stable government that promotes manufacturing, agro based growth and IT/ITES growth and at the same time increases tax collection from big players in real estate, I don't think Pakistan would really grow much in the next 15-20 years.

One suggestion is to consider allocating more to education and probably take out the same from defense spending. Educated minds are the best defense of any society or country. Improvement in economy with be qualitatively impacted also.

    Steps to overcome economic challenges
    1. **Reduce fiscal deficit:** Tighten government spending and improve tax collection.
    2. **Control inflation:** Implement measures like interest rate adjustments to slow price hikes.
    3. **Encourage foreign investment:** Make Pakistan more attractive to businesses by fostering stability and a friendly environment.
    4. **Manage debt:** Restructure and find ways to pay down external debt obligations.
    5. **Upgrade infrastructure:** Invest in roads, bridges, and other transportation systems to improve economic activity.
