The reason the fakes only have a few hundred reviews is because eBay shuts them down when the complaints come pouring in... and the seller immediately opens another account under a different name.

Great video! Thanks for putting more word out about these counterfeit Milwaukee batteries. Wish I would have done research and watched your video before buying a Milwaukee M18 12ah battery from eBay at a much lower price point. I didn't catch it at 1st but after using the eBay battery and realizing how terrible its performance was, I compared it right next to my genuine Milwaukee M18 12ah battery and there are a lot of differences between the 2. If I didn't have my genuine battery, I would have fallen for it. Now I have to waste time and fight eBay about a refund. I'm sure a lot of people have been duped and don't know any better. To the untrained eye, or in my case, without my genuine battery and knowing how it performs, I would have thought, wow, great deal and battery. Let's be honest, genuine Milwaukee batteries are not cheap. Everybody would like to save money and get the real deal but these eBay batteries are definitely not the real deal. They are fakes and counterfeits!
I should have listened to my conscience, if it's too good to be true, it isn't.

I also avoid Amazon where lower cost brand name batteries are sold.

Thanks for making this video, it's pretty informative and helpful. In the future try not to swap around the order the real and fake ones are placed on the screen. I got a little confused at certain parts.

You are confusing many people. First of all the authentic batteries do indeed have a side label which is tight and close to the seam where the upper part of the case joins the bottom. The placement of the lightning emblem on the lid also varies on the authentic packs. The gray, white and red on the labeling as well as the red on the mounting buttons there is variation within Milwaukee. I have taken hundreds of recycled batteries apart, I have yet to find one which outright tries to imitate the logos, and what I find is that a simple capacity and current output test is a positive way to detect a counterfeit. Besides to obvious copies , one needs also to open the pack. . I might also add that if counterfeiters are actually trying to spoof a serial number as they do with Li-ion 18650 and 21700 cells, all the counterfeits will have an identical serial number.

One guaranteed way to know (for now anyway) if your battery is fake is when you connect it to the tool. Real milwaukee batteries red will always match the tool's red. There are other counterfeit milwaukee battery reviews that say the same thing.

That is not true. Looking right now, the red on the batteries are slightly more washed out than most of the milwaukee tools. In fact some tools also less intense reds.

The one shown in the video was brand new. It matches the tool perfectly. Maybe an old battery or old tool will fade but these are brand knew. I am wondering if you watched the whole video, because I did take it apart. I also did a test and these from an unauthorized seller don't last as long.

I think you should have highlighted the printing "Everything Eits" as opposed to Everything Fits". Some mistakes are so obvious. they shouldn't be ignored. Yes I watched the entire video, again, not seeing fading on any of mine. There are probably more distinct indications such as the weight of the battery as opposed to red coloration , placement of the lightning strike, even the feel of the release buttons. For instance there were counterfeits made 5 years ago which incorporate the interior solid plastic cell enclosure while the rest of the cell coloring is identical, even the texture as you indicated. But these batteries avoided using the lightning emblem or the word 'Milwaukee" Even the LED fuel gage behaves identically. And there are some of these still for sale. Most of them were high quality which leads one to believe they were being sourced from the very same factories in China which built the cells for Milwaukee. But now most of the counterfeits are overrated by double or more. Now it has become pure copy violation and sadly EBAY really doesn't care one way or the other. All this being said, your advice of checking out the reviews of the source is a great idea.
I get sensitive to conspiracy theories, and you will find videos of some people trying to convince buyers that tools sold from home depot in identical packaging are sub par to those sold elsewhere.

@@3dprintingnmore as in the display packaging itself, real batteries come in that dual clamshell plastic with the melted punched edges with a rfid anti theft tag inside, the fake ones come with a cardboard package with the plastic just over the battery and no rfid tag. That's the biggest tell before you even hit order.
