At 26:00 , the short train of lumber is just east of Marion yard , heading east on its trip to the Monticello Branch. You can see the town of Marion in the back left in this shot. Back in 79 , we broke off a chase of ABBA cab units to shoot this line. Glad we did , as it was abandoned soon after, as was the whole Green Island , Marion former main line. It always amazed me to be chasing freights out here at 10 MPH with active CTC guiding trains !!
At 50:05 In the cab , speedo pegged at 10 MPH ! Pretty much sums up the Milwaukee out in Iowa in the late 70's . I got to experience the use of track torpedoes on one of my rides back then. MAN they are LOUD !
57:19 , eastbound , stopping for beans . Not for a meet . After this photo was taken , the crew left and I climbed up and turned on the headlight for a shot , turned it back off and waited for them to continue east.. Great chase , great memories. These crews were the best.
Great show! I especially liked the berm shots of the old Des Moines River bridge. Photos of that bridge are extremely rare. Just a couple minor corrections: Those "F3s" at 6:47 are actually E7s The locomotive shown at 15:50 is an SD40-2 (note the trucks with two sets of three holes)
Enjoyable and nostalgic look back.

The Southern leased engines were SD24s.
