ATSF 31 was taken at 6th Street Ft Madison, IA. Angle of the sun would make it about time for Train #1 the San Francisco Chief arriving at the 1910 depot downtown Ft Madison. I don't understand why the photographer is standing in the middle of the eastbound mainline? He should have been on the north side where the depot track is going off to the left. that track also was the interchange track to the CB&Q "K Line".
CB&Q S-3 w/Mississippi River on left looks more like it was taken in NW Illinois along the Palisades north of Savana, IL? But does Wisconsin have this kind of back ground scenery?
I didn't understand about truncating the MILW between Cedar Rapids and Marion resulting in an 80-mile trip taking 12 hours. CR to Marion is 8 miles; I doubt they would have truncated that segment if they could avoid it. Where was the 80 miles? I could not find Dove (east end of double track) on the map either. Thanks.
What he is speaking of is the one way trip between Marion and Savanna, Il. This was about 80 road miles and the many 10 MPH slow orders made this trip quite a slog for road crews. In the late 1970's this once high speed double track line was reduced to single track with long meet sidings at Dove , Delmar and Olin Jct. In the summer the tracks were totally hidden in grass and weeds. Trains 106 and 107 ran with ABBA F units for the most part and chasing was pure joy. Cab rides were for the taking and crews all super friendly. Hope all this helps clear up your question.

CRI&P 652 is most likely suspect as the Quad Cities Rocket w/vista dome observation car.

There was a technical issue with audio at the 12:00 mark, creating an audio gap until the 15:22 mark.
