If you want to clear it up in a day or two use green to blue water treatment it will work on black Algae too 15 years ago I had to do it , my water was black put that in the next morning the water was clear I just had a lot of dead stuff on bottom to sweep out , if you use Winterizer in the pool when it’s time to close down you’ll open it up and it will be perfectly clear .
One other thing if you have a Solar cover be careful how long you leave it on it will heat the water up good but will cause black algae if left on too long and it gets too hot . That’s how 15 years ago I ended up with black Pool went on vacation for two weeks covered it with a solar cover thinking that would keep the bugs leaves and stuff out came back to a black pool nightmare . That’s when I used the green the blue treatment water was crystal clear the next day just had some tannish kind of colored stuff at the bottom which I’m assuming was the dead black algae to sweep out .
This gives me some hope, as I only have a 10x30 pool but I live in a trailer home community so draining is messy. I'm on day 4 and my water is so cloudy. I'm trying your tips
My family had an above ground pool when we were younger. Many memories! We actually emptied it and then refilled it. When I lived at Copper Ridge apartments, they'd shock the pool Every Monday. And believe me, it was shocked. It was so shocked, you could not open your eyes in the water. And you smelled like chlorine. If I had to do what you did, I'd probably empty half of it and then refill it and start shocking it. I've seen a lot of pool cleaners recommend this. Your basically diluting it. That's just my opinion. But those memories.

Great job! Next time you should add all that shock at once and brush the whole pool right after. Run the pump as long as you can. If you brushed right after then it would bring all that algae up. But great job, it turned out amazing!

I've never had my pool green or black or any other then clear. We dump a extra amount of shock and chlorine tabs in our filter and run it 1 time a week for a few hours all closed up with tarp covering top and when we open the top she's crystal clear after a winter.
@@racheldaydreams ours came with the super small sand filter and it just couldn't keep up. We got the larger intex one with the timer and the water is crystal clear 24x7. I think it was around 200 bucks when we got it. Check Amazon daily it goes on sale.
Next winter when the water gets below 65 degrees add a winter kit. I use in the swim winter kit then put a good winter pool cover on. Open pool in spring around end of March before it gets above 65 and add spring kit. If you do that your water will be crystal blue and clean when you take the cover off. Do not use the cover that came with it get a winter cover and pool saver wrap. I do this with my summer waves pool works great
We have a larger round above ground permanent pool. (Decked in/construction company installed etc.) My FIL swears its cheaper to just empty and refill as that is lower than the price of chemicals it takes to clear it every year. He's had the pool for over 10+ years so I trust his judgement.
I followed all the directions, cleaned my pool, even added the magic pill...and its still black. This year, we had a very mid winter with hardly any snow. There was at least 4 times we had 70 plus degrees for a few days, and then it would plummet again. There is no keeping up with it when mother nature decides to be bipolar.
One huge problem with some of these above ground pools is that the pump that come with is woefully inadequate ! Get yourself atleast a 1 horsepower pool pump and install a inline clorinator. This will give you adequate recirculation of the pool water to allow your pool filter to actually work efficiently. Having a chlorinator will keep your chlorine levels consistent and will do a better job than a floating chlorinator. Then all you will need to do is check your chemicals and add appropriate ph stableizers like baking soda etc....oh and either drain your pool at the end of season or use a Pool Winterization Kit to chemically treat your water so when you open up your pool the next season it will be ready for use with just a few steps.
a little too much on the modifications to a summer breeze pool. these are considered seasonal play pools. id definitely at min just drain and refill and thats only because its not a liner pool. other than that the mentioned modifications are too much for a softwalled small pool of this nature. I clean 80 a week. all mine modified as mentioned are hard walled above grounds.

Yes debris will destroy your water fast. Vacuum it daily or even grab the cheap intext robot cleaner it does ok for 50 bucks. We have a tree that over hangs our pool so it's a daily or every other day Vacuum job. When it's time to close get a tarp that's bigger then your pool and cover it up after you completely clean your pool and Vacuum it. Put a lot of extra chlorine in it and let your pump run for 24 hours it'll be crystal clear when you take your tarp off next year.
Did you have the pump when you added chlorine? We have black water too,. The pool was trashed and we are trying to clean it but can’t see anything bc of the color of the water
Katia Barragan how long has the pool sat like that? You may need to scoop the algae that has settled to the bottom out of inbreeding you start to see a difference. I Personally wouldn’t add the chlorine until you know the shock is working. Depending on the pool size you may need lots more shock then what was used here. Another product that I’ve found to work for me once it gets cloudy is using the green to blue treatment kit but as long as you can hook up a vacuum to it as it will sit on the pool floor.
Shelainia McClaine it’s been sitting there for at least 2 years :( we found at least 3 concrete blocks, nets, a toilet, etc!! We are scooping the black algae with a skimmer but that’s taking forever... The pool also came without a pump or filter. We recently purchased these but my husband believes we have to clean most of the black algae with the skimmer, then vacuum it by hooking it up to the pump (he’s afraid if we vacuum now the pump will stop working bc of all the algae), and then shock the pool? Do you know a faster way to clean this pool? I’d love to have it done soon!! Thanks in advance!!!
Katia Barragan I have an above ground pool. It has sat for the last three years with never being winterized. I just bought a new pump & sand filter last Thursday. What has worked for me to get to the green to blue stage is scoping out the algae on top. I then hooked my pump & filter up. I added 6 bags of the 6 in 1 shock. Then I’ve just baby sat it while it’s been filtering. Cleaning the skimmer out at least ever 10 to 20 mins and scooping anything on the top that lumped together. After it turned white and cloudy I started to brush the floor and walls. I’m now on the green to blue stage today. I’ll let you know tomorrow if everything sank to the bottom. But it looks so much better then when I started it looked like a black swamp.
The vacuum I was using attaches right to the filter. It becomes quite a pain emptying the traps so often though. I definitely recommend one that operates on its own.
Yes! Probably so! Lol! We live in Michigan though. So we have almost 6 months of freezing temps! Pool was clean when we winterized it, this was the outcome in the spring 😞 that’s the unfortunate part of living with winters. Our pool season only lasts 2-3 months tops!
I close my pool when it gets below 65 degrees and cover it for the winter. If you treat if before you cover it nothing will grow during the winter. You just have to make sure to uncover, treat and hook pump up before water gets above 65 in the spring. It gets cold here so I store my pump in the winter but leave my pool up.

Yes! I started running my filter as soon as it was full again. We drain ours to under the pump level. To keep from pump functions from freezing in winter! 🥶

So from what I’ve learned, you have to make sure the ph is correct in order for just chlorine to work. However, black pools like mine and yours, is a good indicator of green and black algae. If you left yours uncovered, it’s from fallen leaves that allowed algae to feed off of. So, first pH, then algaecide scrub scrub scrub and skim fallen debri, then tons of chlorine with constant filtering/pump! And you should be golden! Hope that helps! It’s a guessing game every year, I swear!

I would say that is probably not enough shock to completely knock out the algae. If any gets left behind it repopulates so quickly! Also, someone commented not long ago about flock, which is what I’m gonna try this year. It attracts all debri and small particles and makes it drop to the bottom to be vaccuumed. That may help! Remember that the sun breaks down chlorine and shock quickly and makes it less affective. Maybe add an abundance overnight! Hope this helps! Hope you have a great pool season! Starting my 2021 pool cleaning probably next week! Eek!

Yea I would definitely scrub before shock so you can get the slime and caked on algae loose so the shock can eat it up! Cold front here too, in Michigan. Hoping for nice weather next week, to get our pool opened up
Algaecide works great for green and yellow algae. no chlorine needed. after initial dose, run filter, wait 24 hours, then shock it. just add an ounce a week of Algaecide to maintain it.
YES! It’s a lot of work, but I ran mine constantly for probably at least 4 days to a week, or so… and kept the filters cleaned and rinsed! It’s possible!! Good luck! 👍🏻 🥰
With just those 3 steps it should be alot easier & less chemicals sand filter pumps are better! The sand last 3 years. Shock brush flock same day vaccum next day 😊😊😊 i hope it helps happy pool season

Great question! With a pool this size it can cost upwards of $300 to fill back with fresh water. So depending, it’s more cost effective, if you can save it with chemicals first!

We have a built in and we’re having problems keeping it clear. We replaced the sand filter with a diatomaceous earth filter and it cleared the pool in a few hours and it’s been crystal clear since. It might be worth it over time to upgrade to something better than sand? The pool guy explained how sand filters develop channels and stop working as efficiently. Your hard it awesome! 🙂
We live in Michigan! Lol we can have freezing temps up to 2 weeks before swim season sometimes! Weather is very unpredictable! The beginning of June is usually the beginning of swim season for us. We start cleaning pools mid May!
I have an Intex you come out better hooking a sand filter up to you pool. Those paper filters are garbage. Intex pools come with sand filters now. Believe me, I know the struggle. I just drain n clean mine every year. Saves money on electric n products.
Yea, definitely was an amateur mistake. As well as accidentally letting the top water, and debris get into the water underneath the winter tarp. Had no way of vacuuming the rain/snow water off tarp appropriately. There’s much to learn and master and lots of trial and errors to experience in pool keeping! ❤️
I’m not sure how pool water is a representation on how we live. This is what happens very easily to pool water when nature takes over, when the correct chemicals or precautions weren’t used. This video was posted to give other pool owners hope, for saving 1,000 gallons of water to avoid draining and filling back with $400 of new water.

Mix the shock treatment in a bucket and pour it into the pool works better

Not time put chlorine tabs in the floaters and that will help also. And keep them full

Try adding phosphate remover after the algae is killed. When algae is killed, it releases phosphates, which is a breating ground for more algae.

With just those 3 steps it should be alot easier & less chemicals sand filter pumps are better! The sand last 3 years. Shock brush flock same day vaccum next day 😊😊😊 i hope it helps happy pool season

Great question! With a pool this size it can cost upwards of $300 to fill back with fresh water. So depending, it’s more cost effective, if you can save it with chemicals first!

@@kerryquinn7188 yes. We have a monthly water and sewer bill. To fill our pool up completely usual tracks on $200-300, but that may have been worth it this year with how much i spent on chemicals this year! 😒

Invest in a better filter. Get a decent sand filter with a good pump.
Definitely doing that this year. The pool pumps that come in the sets, just don’t cut it!
@@racheldaydreams look for a large intex filter with the timer. Does great for us. We've got around 8000 gallon pool and my water has been ready for swim since February lol its just a tad cold at 68*
We have a built in and we’re having problems keeping it clear. We replaced the sand filter with a diatomaceous earth filter and it cleared the pool in a few hours and it’s been crystal clear since. It might be worth it over time to upgrade to something better than sand? The pool guy explained how sand filters develop channels and stop working as efficiently. Your hard it awesome! 🙂

We live in Michigan! Lol we can have freezing temps up to 2 weeks before swim season sometimes! Weather is very unpredictable! The beginning of June is usually the beginning of swim season for us. We start cleaning pools mid May!

I have an Intex you come out better hooking a sand filter up to you pool. Those paper filters are garbage. Intex pools come with sand filters now. Believe me, I know the struggle. I just drain n clean mine every year. Saves money on electric n products.
I think you’re right. Draining and refilling might be less expensive at this point with the price of everything going up!

Yea, definitely was an amateur mistake. As well as accidentally letting the top water, and debris get into the water underneath the winter tarp. Had no way of vacuuming the rain/snow water off tarp appropriately. There’s much to learn and master and lots of trial and errors to experience in pool keeping! ❤️

Great question! Was mostly curious if I could save it, as it is around $200-$300 worth of water. Thought I’d give it a try first, and was successful!!

I’m not sure how pool water is a representation on how we live. This is what happens very easily to pool water when nature takes over, when the correct chemicals or precautions weren’t used. This video was posted to give other pool owners hope, for saving 1,000 gallons of water to avoid draining and filling back with $400 of new water.
