Same for me. I always ate in the morning it’s how we grew up. I tried once what all these doctors push the skipping of breakfast and boy it definitely didn’t work for me. Went food shopping and when i came out of the store i was so dizzy my head spinning had to wait for it to pass as I wasn’t sure how i was going to get home. Never again. Fasting is for all in our culture since childhood, fresh food ,cooked by love every day ,bread every day sour dough by grandma, fresh milk from cow, yougart ,fresh butter ,eating seasonal food ,no fridges and freezers ,no dead food .eat dead food ,your body is dead.Extended families, no competition, team work to survive, helping others to establish businesses from those who have very little. No consumerism ,very little essential tools, clean beds, very few plates,a plate broken is repaired and used again, saving,Collect money and buy houses for the poor weak women ,waking up with the sun rise ,thinking God will disturb its wealth early in the morning before doing something else, sleep with sun down, no media ,no radio, no Tv even we can afford it .The result 5 medical doctors ,and one engineers, next generation are all medical doctors because they know it is not the money ,it is human caring they are good at.

What an amazing conversation! I've listened to just about the entire video and I never listen to a full video. I want to go and buy all the books written by these two. I have been doing keto and intermittent fasting for about a year now and I'm at the best weight of my life, but I have hit a bit of a plateau - it is like my body refuses to lose any more weight. I'm right at 99 lbs. Before I started this diet journey I was about 110. I am only 5 ft tall. I eat a very strict keto diet most of the time and sometimes even more of a carnivore diet than keto. I sometimes do not eat after lunch. I can't seem to budge and get down to my goal weight of 97. I managed to get there for a few weeks this summer but it seems almost impossible now. Let me add that I am extremely sensitive to carbs - if I have just a single meal or a day of not doing keto I can put on 4 lbs in a day and then I have to work extremely hard to lose it again. It can take me 7-10 days after one day of carbs to get back to where I was! I work out 5-6 days per week about 30 minutes doing light weights and body weight exercises. Tracy Anderson Method. Any tips?
Doesn’t taking activated charcoal also remove nutrients? I only take activated charcoal if I feel like I got some kind of food poisoning or virus bacterial thing going on
@@fredrickeriksson1965 You can buy activated charcoal at any health food store. If ever my kids were exposed to viruses or me we would always take activated charcoal- when they were young I would just take it out of the capsule and mix it in with some applesauce. They actually use activated charcoal in the ER when people overdose on certain things. If you go to a really good health food store they will be glad to inform me on how to use it 💙
I love Dr Hyman. But I've been on the omad diet one year 7 months, then because of personal and business stress I gained 50 pounds. Took me only 6 months to gain those 50 lb. I got back on my omad diet on June 2nd, today is October 16th and I've lost 37 lb. However and quite seriously, I've developed coronary heart disease, which is a double description, LOL. So even though one meal a day is fantastic for weight loss, it did not stop the progression of my osteoarthritis in my left hip, the chest pains that I get dozens of Times Daily, or some other strange disease that I've developed in my right shoulder.
I wish Dave would address post-menopausal women. I have heard every interview re: this book and I appreciate the perio mention, but not a thing about post menopausal -
I really do like some of what Asprey has to say as I'm new to fasting, love it, and am soaking up a lot of info, but he's got a bone to pick with vegans and it gets old. A vegan diet isn't necessarily "low calorie" or "low fat" so I'm not sure why he mentioned it with those in the beginning. I've been a healthy vegan for over 35 years and fasting has come really easily to me. I've lost 10 pounds since April 1st. No problem with my "hunger levels". Doing great, Dave! :)
Stem cell ?? You say ? Can you tell me more Very interested as I have recently had weird episode where optic nerve damage. Doctor said there will be a cure in my lifetime
I love to be around people that have something to offer like their knowledge of things in general life experiences. I myself have spent lot of time on researching different topics and have life experiences to back it up and have conversation with anybody. But have some friends that haven’t changed since High School. I really find it hard to deal with a childish behavior from a 60+ year old woman who still acts and thinks like a teenager 🤦♀️. I don’t mind looking young but when you act like a child and you’re a grandmother it’s pretty pitiful.
What a wonderful and intelligent man Dr Ekberg is, if only other doctors took a little time to follow his messages, we would all be healthier, I do, SP Kelly aged 85.
Was doing a 72 hr fast when I fractured my femur stem. Should known about supplements? 81 yrs did 9 miles before the fracture hit concrete picking up trash. Jade anterior hip replacement still on cane.
I intermittent fasted for about two years before I realized I didn’t need to, anymore. I went from 220 pounds to my weight today was 175. Just learn what you can eat to not always be hungry and be metabolically healthy. For me it’s mostly protein. Grass finished
I am able to fast often and I'm vegan. I fast for 24-36 hours a week and eat 2 meals a day every other day in a 6-8 hour window. I could even fast more but really just eat all the other days of the week to get enough nutrients
When you’re a vegan you really need to eat more often as the vegan food doesn’t really give you enough nutrients to sustain you for long periods of time. When i eat meat /animal protein it gives me enough nutrients snd energy to go without food for longer periods of time.
Hi , your skin is made of collagen and Vitamin C. Try rubbing half a lemon on your face as often as possible every day for a month. Do a b4 photo and after photo on your phone then explode the 2 photos. Worth a million this 1!
Dave has some interesting things. I pick and choose what may work for me. But I lose some respect for all of these youtube people when they all sell over priced supplements and other products. Yes I know they employ people. Nothing wrong with making money it is the American way. And yes I have purchased some of his products. I started this way of eating a month ago hopefully to lose weight and to get off all prescriptions. Now I find with more watching and listening they try to convince me I need more pills. Boggles the mind of an old lady. :-)
There is so much to do before buying pills. Assuming you are not too thin then fasting for as long as you can is the biggest thing most people can do to improve their health. Cutting sugar and grain is great too. The fasting improved my life more than I could have ever hoped for. I would think for most people spending any money on supplements is not necessary at all to see vast improvement.
Gratefully, intermittently fasting has been in my blood for 42 years and counting - thank you for validating how healthy it is and it’s benefits - your podcast and knowledge are an inspiration to those who could benefit from it and have never tried ❤ Thank you Mr Asprey!
From my own experience, cut out all added sugar, and high-density carbs that turn into sugar in our bodies (bread, baked goods, such as muffins, etc., all pasta, fruit drinks, rice and potatoes), go easy on high-sugared fruit while you are losing the weight (bring back in moderation for maintenance). You will be astonished at how quickly you lose weight and how quickly your body starts to change shape). Most of all you will like how you wake up not craving food. Now, I'm not Ms. goody-two-shoes, I go off my mostly keto diet every once in a while, but as soon as I go back to it, things improve again.
@@normamimosa5991 thanks Norma. I've done two days of OMPD this week. Wednesday is my weighing day so we'll see. Only carb I'm eating is berries once in a while. @@ladygolfer8341forget this scale jumping. Losing 2 lb is nothing really and our bodies will weigh differently from day to day. You should pay more attention to how your clothes fit, i don’t bother with weighing myself all the time as it doesn’t matter as much as what i see in the mirror. Also people who have muscles will weigh more because the muscle is heavy. Better to use some resistance exercise to tighten up the muscles 💪🏽.
I usually go 12 hours before eating breakfast. I do have my black coffee.. sometimes i add coconut oil. But lately I've been eating oatmeal with banana or other fruit and nuts for breakfast to lower my LDL cholesterol (191). My HDL is 66 and triglycerides are in the good range. Total cholesterol is 293. Am I making a big mistake with the oatmeal breakfast. I'm hungry about two hours later. Also, if I go too long without food, past five hours, I get heart burn. Not sure I could do an all day fast without some extreme discomfort. I'd love to lose 15-20 lbs. I'm 67 years old. No meds.
I’m guessing (guessing being the key word here) that cooking from scratch is what separates us from healthier people. Using plain ingredients (I mean without additives of any kind wherever possible) is the best way. I use lots of spices and herbs so it tastes good. Meat for energy (cow-ruminant). I’m 74 and just got my eyes checked. Almost better than 20/20 corrected. That hasn’t been the case for a long time. Eating meat. It’s a dramatic difference. My aunt and next door neighbors -roasted- a lot of meals of meat, potatoes, 3/4 different vegetables, had a cocktail every evening which I would never be able to handle 😝, and all four lived into their 90s which wasn’t true for their parents or siblings.
Some of the techniques work and some don't. I can drink a thermos of coffee (4 cups) immediately before bed, and fall asleep immediately, not waking up naturally (without an alarm clock) until the next morning, after 6 to 7 hours of sleep.
Last time I threw up after exercise was taking a jazz dance class at St Ann’s in Brooklyn Heights when I lived on Columbia Heights & used to see Norman Mailer march up the street looking mean & angry. I was prepping for the Fire Dept physical which I passed with flying colors. Didn’t prep for the mental & didn’t score in the high 90’s & didn’t become a fireman like my father wanted me to. Now I have to get rid of fluid collection in my toes. Doesn’t show up physically, no pain but it bothers me just knowing it’s there.
Fasting and ketogenic diet not only solves my pre diabetic problem but also has solved depression too! I no longer suffer mood swing and anxiety! It’s amazing how we could solve our problems without medication, all we need is to set our goal towards healthy lifestyle.
Isn’t this the guy who wrote the book Super Human: The Bulletproof Plan to Age Backward and Maybe Even Live Forever “No one ever went broke underestimating the taste [or intelligence] of the American public.” HL Mencken
This is why I do not fast any more. The damage to my sleep rhythm causes too big a damage to my health, compared to any possible health gains I could have gotten from fasting. Fasting once a week causes poor sleep for the day of fasting, and then poor sleep for a few days after because it throws off my sleep rhythm. There's also no studies showing fasting has long term health benefits in humans. Animals studies show that fasting extends smaller animal life, but those benefits decrease with the size of the animal, and if you extrapolate up to a human those benefits may be none of even negative, so either way they don't apply to humans. Also you can get the main "benefits" of fasting such as autophagy from exercise, without the serious negative side effects like destroyed sleep quality, sub-optimal protein partitioning, and craving calorie dense food after fasting. I've known people who have gotten very fat and unhealthy from fasting because of how much it shuts down will power and causes people to crave junk food after a fast. Fasting increases HGH, which our biology intentionally balances in the body. Increases in HGH increase the risk of cancer. Our body is forced to make the trade off between increased chance of cancer and the body falling apart and "being unable to find a food source" when we fast, but if it was healthy for us to have increased HGH then our bodies would naturally produce more of it all the time. Also people who encourage regular fasting are encouraging pseudo-science, and usually do so they have more things to talk about and can build their brand. We really don't know if fasting has long term benefits in humans.
@@user-yl7kl7sl1g I agree with you 💯 seems like all these doctors found a new fad to push because all the other fads got old. I have no problem not eating so much food as we got to overeating since there is so much food available. I can’t imagine people holding a stressful job and fasting at the same time though. That’s crazy and ill advised. Eating less but nutritionally dense foods, is way better. I go outside and walk everywhere and that’s my main time to do my intermittent fasting. Being in the sun, fresh air and moving. So many people are confused what to do with their health and will jump on any new fad without thinking if this is really what their body needs. I tried once not to eat my breakfast and got dizzy outside which was dangerous and I knew right there that’s bs i shouldn’t try again. If anything skipping dinner is way better or just early dinner should give us enough time off food till the morning. Also i don’t sleep well with feeling hunger and it keeps me up and from getting deep sleepy which is really worse than anything because good sleep is above all the time when the body regenerates itself to keep healthy.
Funny, it's the opposite with me. Normally I can only sleep 6 hours. While water fasting, I sleep like a baby 8-9 hours while having calm, pleasant dreams. Everyone's different.

That’s where the problem is with suggesting fasting for everyone. People think it’s a cure all for bad diet, it’s not. The only benefit you got was not subjecting your body to garbage food for extended period of time. Your body was still starving for nutrients which it never got. Nutrient dense diet is a must when one starts to include fasting. Not sure if this is getting through to the followers of fasting though.

Our grandparents didn’t ‘starve.’ They didn’t know about snacks. They ate three modest meals a day and no one was fat
That's true 💯 my grandparents did the same & they were also active
Also after 3 healthy meals..they never sat on the couch and watch t.v..they were physically fit.
Amazing video. Forwarded it to my friends and clients
Wau, what abundance of great advice and abundantly and different kinds, thank You for this great video. Everybody should hear this.
I never eat past 7pm and eat again at noon the next day.
Well good for you and if that’s something you have been doing for a long time that’s great, but it just doesn’t work for everyone especially people who have manual or high stress jobs. Sitting around the house and fasting is not an option we all have.
@@JCX-9that’s no excuse. I work 80 hours a week and do the same.

I made it a mission to learn from the elderly:) Their knowledge is priceless!
Ha ha Patty, you called them "elderly" but they consider themselves young biologically! I agree with you, learning from others' experiences and knowledge gives us a lot of mileage.

So great! Sounds like the late sixties and early seventies! What an informative interview..Thank goodness we have this movement and Doctors like you Still trying to get this message out to people that are still scarfing down fruit loops for Dinner and wondering why they are sick!! I agree. I was born in the late 1950s and our food and lifestyle were so much healthier back then than we see around us now. ❤️
20 hrs with a 4 hour eating window is even better 2 to 3 times per week. Give it three months and most of your metabolic issues goes buh bye.

I only take activated charcoal if I feel like I got some kind of food poisoning or virus bacterial thing going on
Excuse me, could you tell me more about activated charcoal? Like how you get it and how you use it?
Thank you in advance.
If you go to a really good health food store they will be glad to inform me on how to use it 💙
@@mast3rmin3 thank you very much, I appreciate your help. Have a lovely day.

I am at 21:42. When do you settle down and go through the "fasting hacks?'
Mosslems are encouraged to do their optional dry fastings 2 x a week, besides the compulsory annual month of fasting
Muslims? Muslims observe Ramadan for a month where they dry fast sun up to sundown. It is one of the 5 pillars of Islam.
I intermittent fasted for about two years before I realized I didn’t need to, anymore. I went from 220 pounds to my weight today was 175. Just learn what you can eat to not always be hungry and be metabolically healthy. For me it’s mostly protein. Grass finished
Dr. Hyman is my hero! When I grow-up I want to be just like him and live to 120? 180? FOREVER! 😃
DAVE! Your skin is looking pristine! Stay awesome Sir!
@@ifh4030 I have not bought supplements, and probably won't.

1:07:48 cooking the fat as long as it is not fried is okay then? ( I know it shouldn't be burnt.)
I hope I can throw away my fat clothes eventually. Only a month into this new way of living and going slowly.

I’d try again if you truly want to be a firefighter God Bless cheers from Pennsylvania 👍👍👍🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸

Does grains and millets work in the body the same way?
Fasting impacts my sleep big time. I am up in the middle of the night right now. And my ketones are humming. 🙄

I agree with you 💯 seems like all these doctors found a new fad to push because all the other fads got old.
😂 I had my throw up kickboxing class yesterday, I didn't know it was a good thing 😇

Guess I been fasting all my life growing up poor I was lucky to get atleast 1 meal day, if you count chips & soda as a meal🤷🏽
