Billy Walsh was quartered here in 2002 when he was both an actor and real FDNY fireman in Sesame Street Elmo Visits The Firehouse which aired on February 4th 2002
And that unfortunately features the overly cliché LAFD spec Unitrol 800 siren be used (via Post Production instead of a PA300) that was first used in Superman 2.... in 1980!
FDNY ordered 10 Mack CF and one American LaFrance painted yellow/green for an experiment for seeing the trucks better, but everyone liked the red better
Thank you for uploading and sharing. I recognize many of these faces even all these years later as my father spent nearly his whole career at E58. I have fond memories of great Christmas parties and times spent climbing the green machine, and the engines after.
Excellent stuff! I really can't thank you enough for uploading all these videos! They are such a great look into the amazing history of the FDNY! -andrew
@nytmstr not saying that it does minimize or trivialize the work they used to do past or present. FDNY is one of the hardest working dept's around and deserve all the respect in the world from everyone. My 7 y/o son wants to grow up and get hired on the job with FDNY. He even has a 58/26 patch hanging up in his room!
@@chiefrich1804 I'm from New Britain CT, they tried the same thing around the same time period, it wasn't a big hit. I know I didn't care for it. Thank you for your service! God Bless!
FDNY was part of the fire service trend in the 1970's to make fire trucks more "highly visible" by using different colors, but as time went by it turns out that having more strobes lights made trucks more visible.
Stop cryin looking for spotlights and do your damn job! Both professions are necessary and respected! Your statement is a small window into the beginning of your issues! Be safe!!
You're really mistaken. First of all I don't think they get a hour break, they get a break when ever they can get one, sometimes they're so busy they don't have no time for one and who ever said it was an hour. Second of all when has anyone ever seen a fire engine at a McDonald's? Fireman are some of the best cooks. Really disrespectful comment! God Bless!
What a great video! My brother was stationed in this house for many years (L26) He even got a medal for a rope rescue back in 93. Such great memories!
My dad is at the end of this video. It was great to watch, thanks!

Lt Jeff Lever and I were Firemen together before he was promoted and went to 26 Truck.
Great guy and great Fireman !
Worked with Munley at the end of his career , and the beginning of mine out in Queens. Best of the best! Glad to have had the privilege.
Lt Geraghty. Is now retired alive an well. He's still a active member with the emerald society ( bagpipes)
+Kevin Geraghry Where is your brother Timmy? We went to Ireland together way back and he was my Lt at Engine 4, EFD.
+Kerry Whalen My father went on the job at 26 on Jan 1, 1953, when there were two ladders in the house.
My brother Timmy passed away some years ago
Kevin Geraghry i thought 2 myself when I saw the name,"self, I wonder if they r related to kevin"? Small world
LT Edward Geraghty was killed on 911. He was Battalion 9 chief.

Sweet piece ❤
RIP Chief Geraghty (only a Lieutenant here)
Jeeze, I forgot about those lime or "slime" green trucks.
We have projects in White Plains near Engine 70 Ladder 32 and Rescue 88 located around the main roads same as New Rochelle
Why do lawyers earn more than these people ?
Love The Yellow / Green Color scheme instead of the Red One!
it was a pilot program. i believe they outfitted 10 companies all over the city.
It was 11. I know squad 41 was one of em. And Engine 85 (disbanded) was one of em. And Engine 10 was one of them also
Awesome video!!!
😅my dad william j whalen fdny 27 years. Ladder 24 and ladder 26 were station together 1957 on Amsterdam Ave
I like the part with the firetruck in it! You digaroonski?
The Former Engine 58 Sta. is at 81 W. 115th St.
It hasn't been demolished?
Not that I’m aware of.
seen that green truck ,different , but cool.
nice great job
nevermind that Q was just answered in the video
@nytmstr do they not see that much fire anymore? Or run that much anymore?
Sometimes I ask, is a Fire Company simply bunker gear and firetrucks or is it the men and women who are inside that gear and the trucks
I couldn’t live in NewYork
Why no Green Machine?
why is there engine yellow? thats the only yellow FDNY rig i've ever seen
There were about 6 trucks in the FDNY that were painted lime or "slime" green in the 1970's 1980's
If u watch the fucking video u wouldn’t have this Question

f d n y threw the Police under the bus...call the firemen when someone is shooting a gun in your hallway.yeah..ok..theyre making a gourmet meal..

ride around in the fire truck and eat fast food for your one hour meal break..then tell me how GREAT the fire dept is..yeah...probably not that great
Francis Sullivan lolll idk are you FDNY?? Bc I think your sorely mistaken
Sounds like a bitter cop that always wanted to be a fireman. Let it go man and enjoy your job.
