Very cool character and build. I really enjoy the creativity in flavoring the features and spells in this way. It really pieces the fantasy together very nicely. Great video

@@brycebrian8798 thank you, I appreciate it! I’m always trying to bend flavor to fit the aesthetic, fashion souls is the real endgame for sure haha.

considering that most fight end within 2-3 rounds, by the time you finish boosting with all your buff, the monster is already half dead... lol
and as a BBEG, while he monologue and boost himself, the party will rush him and beat him down killing him under 2 rounds.

Yeah I like to see longer combats when I’m playing, but the sad truth is they do end really quick! Especially if you’ve got a Paladin criting on a divine smite.

I'm currently running a Drake Warden Ranger with the 2024 rules and it's kinda cracked.
One build I'm trying to figure out is translating the Mystic Spearhand from Dragon's Dogma 2 into 5e. Idk, that sounds like a video idea.

@@ProfessorArgus that’s sick, I played a Drake Warden in 2022, and it was super fun. I never got a high enough level to use it as a mount though.

    cool idea
Personally I prefer the elemental monk? Sure people see him as an Avatar the last air bender, but it can do a pretty good job at being a DBZ character.
Elemental attunement use Thunder or lightning or fire damage (DBZ do not really define how someone feel when his by ki blast, we jus tknow it hurts) and now your get small energy blast at will within 15ft range (20ft if you play bugbear). You can even grapple with them and bring the target close to benefit from your grappler feat.
At level 6 elemental burst if that is not a Kamehameha blast not sure what would be
Level 11 unlimited* flight (1 ki point per 10 minutes, and we all remembers the Frieza speech about Namek exploding in 5 minutes... and the fight going for 7 chapter or 10 episode before the planet actually exploding, so yes I feel comfortable calling Stride of teh Elements unlimited flight. and yes level 11 is late (especially if you multiclass) but remember that the BDZ fighter learn to fly in DBZ, after the first campaignof DragonBall original... Sure gohan, gotten, trunks, videl learn to flight super early but they had help from already super high level fighter (so rush training I doubt they start at level 1 when they join the DBZ fighter as a real fighter)
Martal art bonus action attack, flurry of blow and heightened flurry of blow for more hits
Evasion for when they dodge those huge blast. (even when they fail)
Deflect attack and deflect energy for when they deflect ki blast back to the target
From there you can go all the way 20 monk
Even the level 17 elemental epitome granting resistance to 1 type of damage, giving you burst of speed dealing damage to stuff around you and your fist dealing even more damage
And I didn't talk about the base monk feature yet: stunning strike for those hit that hit so hard the target is left helpless (even if it fails)
Deflect energy, DIsciplined survivor, Perfect focus, somehow they are exhausted have no more energy, fall out of combat while an other Z fighter fight. When they come back in the fight (so a new fight with a new initiative?) they regain enough energy to finish the fight. Superior defense and even Body and Mind giving them a dexterity and wisdom higher that compare with GODS
Or you could grab a few paladin level for smite as you did, but the charisma prerequisite might be hard to achieve
    Personally Ranger
Hunter mark is an extra 1d6 damage from the first level into ranger
fighting style at level 2 Blindsight to represent that ki sensing ability that allow the Z fighter to fight even blind.
Grab a short sword or a scimitar and become Future Trunk or keep going unarmed and choose dart and sling for your weapon mastery and reflavor (Raw since Tasha) them as ki projectile that will surprise the target giving you advantage on your next attack or slow them down (like a weak Taiyōken)
Then you can mimic some of your favorite of your ki blast with a few spells.
Hail of thorn (using the reflavor dart and sling) and reflavor them as exploding ki blast,
Conjure barrage would mimic those multiple ki blast flying around and exploding a region like the gaitlin gun for example.
Revivify allows the ranger to resurrect a fallen allies from death, similarly to Goku who revived Frieza at the end of the Freiza arc (let's hope our Z fighter is smarter and decide to revive Krillin instead of the enemy)
Even Summon beast and/or summon fey could be reflavor as the Gotenk ghost attacks

That’s pretty perfect for it! Unlimited flight is nice, instead of the 1 minute a day Aasimar gives! I’m planning on doing a Monk/Cleric down the line for another version! Spirit shroud + extra attack and Flurry of Blows would be a whole pile of radiant damage!

Sweet build, but you should probably say 5.5 rather than 5 in the title. Personally I'm going to be sticking with 5e, and it would be nice to know weather or not it would be applicable to me from the get-go

@@grantsmith2596 I feel that, I’m trying to stay away from using 5.5e since it’s not an official title. But since this build isn’t using weapon masteries, and the oath of conquest wasn’t reprinted, you can use it in 5e or 5.5e. It might actually be better in 2014 since Divine Smite got nerfed.

I like the single classing of this build. Too much multiclassing in 2014 rules, especially since Tasha's. I don't like the old background as a custom option. For 6 years of 5e, we had to deal with choosing a race that fit your stat array. Then Tasha's came and threw it all out for customization. In the ensuing 4 years, we've all been spoiled by being able to pick the race and adapt the ASIs to our build at the expense of what those increases meant for that race. In 2024, they've made race, I mean species, even less important by tying the mechanical benefit (ASI and origin feat) to the background and not the species. So, a background choice is now more important than a species. I feel as though they threw that old background option for the whiners who can't live within restrictions and want it all, have their cake, and eat it too. Using old backgrounds to avoid these restrictions is not RAI, even if it is RAW. Just my rant about character creation. Embrace the backgrounds and don't skirt the restriction for a little extra power.

I understand where you’re coming from with giving players too much of what they want. We can all see the dangers of that first hand in comparing Classic World of Warcraft to Retail World of Warcraft. It went from a game about immersion, specialization, and the journey; to a game about the destination, and being able to change what you are at the drop of a hat.
That being said, I wouldn’t go so far as to say a custom background isn’t RAI, DnD is all about making the character you want to play. If we write our own backstories, why shouldn’t we be able to craft our own background that fits that backstory? I won’t lie and say I’m doing it purely for flavor though, As you can probably tell my favorite part of the game is character creation, so I want to be able to make a build that has every feature that I need to fit the theme. But I think as long as the theme is consistent throughout, it’s not too egregious. For instance with this build I took magic initiate Druid, but I’m not claiming this character has any powers over nature. I just bend the flavor to fit the Dragonball Z theme. At the end of the day, I think as long as that character’s story can fit the features, then it’s okay to take something custom over the books pre determined options.
