Astarion Ancunín, the Vampire Duelist: Bard/Rogue [Dungeons and Dragons 5th Edition Character Build]
Hello Adventurers!
Welcome back to another episode of Rules as Written Character Builds!
This week I'm bringing everyone's favorite vampire spawn, Astarion, from Baldur's Gate 3, into 2024 5th edition Dungeons and Dragons.
This take on Astarion will be combining the College of Valor Bard, and the Swashbuckler rogue, to create a playstyle that fits his charisma and swagger.
We are also adding in a twist, ditching Dexterity and instead focusing on our Constitution.
We'll utilize the Aberrant Dragonmark feat, as well as the Dhampir species, both of which will let us attack with our Constitution modifier, instead of Dexterity.
Let me know what you think of the build!
And come back every Monday morning for fresh Dungeons and Dragons character builds!

How do you make True Strike use Constitution (sorry didn’t get that part)?
@@The1WiThe6un no worries! The Aberrant Dragonmark feat gives you a sorcerer cantrip, and a 1st level spell. And it makes the spellcasting ability Constitution for both.
@ Ohhhh, nice! 👍
I like using kensei monk to turn the bite into a monk weapon so it scales with level, but rogue fits better for this character.
@@nightangel6868 Yeah that is a fun one! D10 bites now with the 2024 monk.
Hex is the better option mechanically, because you can give disadvantage on wisdom checks making your panache that much more likely to land.
@@glitchking666 that is an awesome combo! I hadn’t thought of that.
@RulesAsWrittenCharacterBuilds it's very easy to overlook and the rider to give disadvantage on ability checks is truly a hard one to figure out, but it's so much fun when it comes up
@ I loved using Hex for grapple builds back when grapple wasn’t a DC.
If you are using the 2014 rules, then you are right and Jack of all trades works works for initiative. However, if you are using the 2024 rules, it does not.
@@brynwtsn Shoot, I’m stuck in 2014 thinking. I did the same thing with reliable talent last month. Thanks for the correction!
@RulesAsWrittenCharacterBuilds no problem.
Love a single class build. Definitely inspires a similarly themed build but slightly different.
I'm with you, after so many multi-classes; it feels good to make a simple and straightforward single class build.
By the old (2014 rules😅) I dipped 2 lvls into stars and 1 lvl of order cleric since that opens up a whole lot of fun with the wizards spell list, much like Treantmonks god wizard build (1 order cleric/X gear oriented sorcerer or divine soul), but because of stars druid we have chalice. So when we cast healing word/wither and bloom for our downed ally, we actually cast it on a different ally that gets to make the reaction attack and we heal the downed ally with the chalice healing. 😂😅😊 I really wanted this wizard to eventually get the Sword of the Paruns (an ally can make a reaction attack whenever you take the attack action), but that's a longsword! So we are making an STR bladesinger and with tortle the AC won't suffer from abandoning DEX and with this level spread we still get Wish. 😊
@@woutvanostaden1299 that’s awesome! I miss the old level 1 cleric subclass. I had a Monk/ War Cleric, and loved having Divine Favor and Shield of Faith as soon as I took the dip. Of course now Shield of Faith doesn’t work with unarmed strikes, sad day haha.
So since we can make a "viable build" with paladin/ranger, can we make something viable with paladin/monk?
It's worth a shot! Especially since Divine Smite works with unarmed strikes now. Not sure it'd be worth it over a Flurry of Blows though. Maybe a Kensei Monk using Agile Parry and Patient Defense + a paladin's Shield of Faith and the Defensive Duelist feat for an extremely high armor class?
@RulesAsWrittenCharacterBuilds Depends on whether we crit, since then it could be it with the increased damage or we could abuse the extra effect from the other smite spells. If you want adding a third class (like a druids spike growth) is fine, just as long as the majority is in paladin and monk. For example conquest and new elements monk long unarmed strikes and flight (by level 11) we can fly above them (locking down their movement options thanks to sentinel feat) hit them from a distance with wrathful smite making it impossible to move. Levels in warlock can also help a lot with the MADness of stats (genie even gets spike growth) and your aura's could help you a lot with your saves making evation even better and in this regard ancients might have a leg up. While I gave the examples of conquest or genie, I think it would actually be more interesting if we could stick to the 2024 rules without backwards compatibility, otherwise the doors are wide open (undead warlock1/conquest paladin8/long death monk11 on a dhampir and the story/theme writes itself) especially if we were to open the door to gestalt or multi-way gestalt campaign builds and third party published contend (I'm referring to something like Sebastian's guide to Drakkenheim, which I have and it's really tempting since it has a really good ⅓ spellcaster monk in the same vein as eldritch knight and arcane trickster, as well as polearm monk wielding glaives and halberds and such making weapon masteries even better), but THE MORE YOU restrict your options, THE MORE your creativity will get to SHINE and your channel could use more subscriber and it's more in line with the channels name. I hope this gave some good ideas, if you have any diffeculties/lack of inspiration let me know. 😉😁
@ You are giving me some good ideas here! Now I’m thinking about some sort of elements monk themed after fire giants. I like the idea of outranging and locking them down. Yeah I usually stick to published content, but I’ve played in some games with DM’s guild classes and they are usually pretty good! I’ll start working on a build and see what it comes out looking like!
Just found this channel, love it.
@@YungOtaku Thank you so much! New builds every Monday.
Back in the days, when I played Diablo2, the Necromancer and the Druid were always my favorite Chara because they could summon many Pets (or Skeletons^^). Since then I always loved Characters in Games who were able to have pets or creatures as companions. So of course I like this Build! Another Plus: you used the Ranger, who got nearly no love from the Players with the 2024 Rules (which I can understand, but still... I feel bad for the class^^).
@@ovoss89 Thank you! I agree, I’ve always felt bad for the Ranger, even in 2014 5th edition. Personally I’ve seen some really good rangers at the table, dual wielding hunters, sharpshooter gloom stalkers, so I never agreed with people that it was a bad class!
Love this. Please do one on the Echo Knight with the new rules. Dex or Str based. Multi-class or pure EK...
@@wmdavidhamilton Sure thing! I’ve never played an echo knight before, so that’ll be fun.
I theory crafted something similar. 8 Devotion Paladin, 8 Beast Master Ranger, 4 Glamour Bard. Custom Lineage for Eldritch Adept for Pact of the Chain. Fisher to get a little extra juice, but also Magic Initiate: Druid. Sacred Shillelagh! With Glamour Bard, your pack can move as one and swiftly.
@@xiongray Glamour bard adds a cool style, The beasts are part of the band!
@RulesAsWrittenCharacterBuilds Oh, and my character in my last campaign was a Satyr Wild Magic Sorcerer 1 / Four Elements Monk 4 with Athlete feat. Main tactic was grab Mages & bring them to the party. Running, jumping, climbing. Using my fall damage to knock foes Prone. When I cast four elements ki spells like burning Hands, it would trigger a Wild Magic Surge. The Sorcerer Cantrips were reserved for Gust, Shape Water, Mold Earth, & Control Flames. I remembered one 1st level Spell was Absorb Elements. If I were to recreate it now, I'd probably ask to use Four Elements with 2024 Monk progression. Otherwise, Wood Elf Wild Magic Sorcerer 3/ Dance Bard 17. Elementalism, Sorcerous Burst, Message.
@@xiongray I always love a build that sticks it to spellcasters! I don’t see a lot of people using the athlete feat, so I’m glad you made use of it! A Satyr with enhanced jumping is just so perfect too.
I am curious to see what you can do with a dampire or Dullahan start
@@edwardbirdsall6580 I’m working on a Dhampir bard/Rogue right now! It’ll be out next Monday!
Fun one. Only other option as you mentioned was oathbreaker. Going a dip into warlock 1 or 2 could get you the pact of chain familiar too instead. Skeleton, imp for the aura stuff. And then can still do agonizing invocation or similar. Do paladin 7/warlock 9/ranger 3 and even can get the protector book invocation to save a summon. Otherwise. I like the thief 3/artificer 3 (battlesmith)/ranger 3/paladin 7. Need many bonus actions. But replacing your normal attacks with ranger beastmaster is essential anyway. Still super MAD tho.
@@WooBunny I like the idea of Warlock 1! That last Paladin level wasn’t super necessary since I didn’t pick up a second epic boon. So it could totally fit in. I think if I was adding warlock I’d probably go for oath breaker in that instance since it matches RP well.
The only problem I see with this build is that it is very bonus action heavy. You need a bonus action to use Shillelagh, a bonus action if you want to use Hunter's Mark, and a bonus action if you want your Beast Companion to do anything other than dodge (unless you give up one of your attacks to give it an attack). Now if you're just rekying on the beasts to attack, while you cast support spells with your action, this isn't a problem. Also, I'm not sure about the spell level progression of 2 half casters. Also, you're relying on 2 different spell casting modifiers which are, for most of this build, 2 different numbers. That being said, I really like this build, but I wouldn't recomend it for a beginning player.
Definitely not a beginner friendly build! I leaned heavily into Charisma so Wisdom is low for most of it. Bonus action heavy for sure! And with the new Divine Smite rules, you won't be smiting much either. Thanks for the comment!
@@RulesAsWrittenCharacterBuilds Also, I'd take Boon of Spell recall since you only have 9 spell slots total and all of them below 4th level, so the chance to cast a spell and not use the slot is very valuable
@@Time628 Thats a good one! I would definitely be happy to drop a 4th level spell slot on Summon Beast, and get it for free.
The true pokem. . . I mean companion master
@@HybridDom I wanna catch ‘em all!
I could 100% see the Oathbreaker as a Paladin who loves their pets so much that they break their Oath and use necromancy to bring back a previously lost pet, or maybe even a childhood one. Really awesome build!
@@ExploringtheBuild That’s some great roleplay! Thank you!
Sounds like Hector the devil forge master from the Castlevania Anime
@@sykune Good reference! It totally does.
Onest build
@@Bardaffo77 thank you!

@@xvader9445 Thank you! Same here. I really relate to what Colby at D4 says in his intros about character building being the majority of his enjoyment of the game.
🦉
Great Build! My only critique would be that spare 1 point stat from point buy should go in Dex and then you can take the +1 dex with pole arm master feat to get +1 to your Dex modifier. Its not much but Dex is a better stat than str that boosts several skills as well as initiative and Dex saving throws and well...every little helps! Personally I abhor the use of CME since its so broken unless a DM nerfs it to increase only every 2 levels or something like Spirit Shroud. I really hope WOTC put out an errata for it!
@@Silverythoughts Good point! I tried to stay away from Dex on principle this time, but it would be more effective to have that modifier there instead of strength. Yeah CME is destructive to balance right now. I feel like I have to mention it in these builds because it’s so strong. But when I’m DMing it’ll likely get banned. That’s saying alot too because I’ve never banned a spell or feature in my games. Not even silvery barbs.
I did a similar build about 5 years ago, a Long Tooth Shifter Beast Barbarian, but didn’t end up playing them in that campaign. In our current campaign, I’m play a very different Werewolf, a Changeling Moon Druid 2 Beast Barbarian 5 Long Death Monk. This build is also a Werewolf from lvl1, via the Changeling’s Shapechange racial and the Primal Savagery cantrip. At lvl 2 go Moon Druid (2014) and Wildshape into a Brown Bear for the multi attack, and stand up on two legs as a werewolf via Shapechange. Go Barbarian for three levels to go Path of the Beast, and Wildshape into a Dire Wolf. You now have two 2d6+Str+Rage due to being large. Go Monk for Martial Arts and you now have 3-4 claw attacks. I went to Barb 5 to grab the subclass features, but that’s not necessary, just the lvl4 ASI is necessary. I went Long Death for the theme as it grants a “howl” to induce fear, and the ability to gain Temp HP as well as just ignoring death as long as you have Ki. With extra attack you go up to 4-5 claw attacks, and at lvl17 or 18 you are dealing 2d8+Str+Rage on each hit that you always have advantage on. Your AC is Con+Dex or the beast’s AC (which ever is better) or Dex+Wis when your Wis and Dex out pace your Con (Dire Wolf has a better Dex, Brown Bear has a better Con). You also have a knockdown attack via the Dire Wolf’s 2d6+Str+Rage bite that knocks an enemy prone on a failed Str save (low DC of 13, so it’s not the best option). This is the Werewolf I’m currently playing. I haven’t translated it over to 2024.
@@jeffersonian000 That sounds super flavorful! I imagine yours is the leader of the pack. Especially with an AOE howl like that.
@@RulesAsWrittenCharacterBuilds We started at lvl1 getting stranded on a world (called “Neverland” by the locals) that’s the corpse of a god, it’s a Steampunk style Spelljammer game (an Artificer’s paradise). The first thing I did was found a mercenary company with the other player characters called the Troop Garou (ie, the Werewolves). His name is Alvas Lupo, ie, White Wolf. Our moto is “That which doesn’t kill us … should run.” We are currently at lvl7, and have liberated four towns/cities from forces oppressing those trapped here with us (spell jamming ships trying to leave explode at 20,000 feet altitude). At each location we recruit a local chapter of the Troop, leaving behind a garrison while taking volunteers with us. We are nominally working for the Industrial Guild (an alliance of races that control commerce between city states in the Scraper Kingdom) and fighting on their behalf against the Brewers (dwarves controlling steam tech clockwork automatons). Other factions we’ve encountered are the Arboreal Empire (treants, all the trees are sentient, I made a deal with them so that they transmit coded communications for us via Semaphore), the Gung-ho Guns (a monastery of gun fighting Monks with artifacts that merge melee weapons with firearms), the Dark City (Necromancers), the Atlantean Confederation (all the aquatic races living at the bottom of a sea sized lake), and the Vampirates (vampire spell jamming pirates that are allowed to leave the world after they “tithe” sentients to the Mycelium, a sentient fugal colony that is trying to move Neverland so it can invade another planet and is the BBEG of the story). There are more factions we haven’t met yet. Sourcing food is difficult because almost every living thing on the world is sentient. Cheese and milk products from the mammal races, Thri-Kreen produce mead from their honey, there are small vegetable plots that are difficult to keep alive without magic because the world is in perpetual twilight. We eat mostly Goodberries and drink bone broth like it’s coffee, which we call “Larry”. We are having a blast.
@ That’s awesome, you don’t always see players so invested in their games, so it’s good to hear someone be so into it. Make my DM heart soar haha. I also love that you’re in a steampunk setting and you’re playing a werewolf.
10:35. Wile it's true that you need a dedicated hand for grappling, it's not true that both hands must be empty to get the bonus claw attack. The feature reads: "Once on each of your turns when you attack with a claw using the Attack action, you can make one additional claw attack as part of the same action."
@@rayindc2074 I definitely overthought this one! Now I’m just picturing a Captain America style werewolf with a shield and claws. Thank you for the clarification!
Grappling one person doesn't reduce the number of attacks you can make with your claws. You can make three claw attacks with just one claw after 5. It's not actually like a Nick weapon that requires you to use another weapon to make the extra (3rd) attack.
@@mattlockshin4744 You’re totally right! I must have gotten caught up in the flavor and assumed it was a dual wield esque feature. But reading it again you’re absolutely right, it says nothing about that. Thanks for the clarification!
I love the sinergy of the sentinel feat and lv10 subclasse ability
@@Bardaffo77 Yeah it’s definitely a “hit me not my friends” kind of build!
I really dig this build. Would also make for an interesting DMPC that has to be dealt with early on in a campaign. Imagine, the party is on their first long rest and halfway through the night, the Barbarian they just bailed out of the holding cell turns into a werewolf and you've got a surprise encounter.
@@ProfessorArgus That would be awesome! Makes me think of Fable 1, with the escort quest through the woods, then one of the merchants you are escorting turns into a werewolf halfway through.
an other blade singer build that fail to understand the strength of bladesinger... cute... Bladesinger is still a FULL FLEDGE WIZARD. You still have only a d6 HP. you are not a fighter. Sure turtle give you 17 AC... great at low level, useless at high level where monster have +16 to hit. trusth me, once monster start having +16 to hit, you really want a free teleport to get out of combat and still cast your spell. No your wizard do NOT have good defense sorry, 17+5 from shield + 5 from bladesong might be 27, but it's still a 45% chance to hit at higher level when monster have +16 to hit) and 45% to loose half your HP, HURTS A LOT Now damage wise, sure you are abusing the typo from CME... cute... no one else ever did that build, so original... Without that typo you would deal low damage. Even as a blade singer you are still MUCH better casting a control spell (like hold monster) and stay far from combat to not lose concentration. activate your bladesong on easy fight you don't want to waste your high spell slot...
@@sohkaswifteagle2604 Thank you for the feedback! I did mention during my ending summary that a Bladesinger’s greatest strength is still the wizard spell list, as well as the drawbacks of the small hit point pool. I’m not sure I would call a 27 AC useless at high levels. Reducing a boss monster’s hit chance to 45% is pretty respectable. Not to mention magic items like Rings or Cloaks of Protectin, Bracers of Defense, Staffs of Power, etc; possibly bringing it above 30. Even without CME, three attacks with an upcast Spirit Shroud and +10 damage is competitive with most melee damage builds At the end of the day, a character is what you make it. If you want to play a blade singer who mainly casts spells do it. I like playing melee builds, so my blade singer will be buffing themself and swinging. Thanks for the comment!

If you are using Tortle (2014 5E material) and optimizing …why not go the next step and do a multi-species Half-elf Tortle, You keep in theme with Bladesinging and now have access to elvish accuracy
@@jasonlarsen5380 I’ve never heard of that before, which racial features do you get? Do you pick and choose from each species, or is it its own species option?
Or just remove the Elven lineage requirement altogether and call it Accuracy. "Half-Elf Tortle" is nonsense cringe
I would take misty step as my 2nd level spell.
@@jeffhovinga1758 @TegwenYT and @Bardaffo77 clarified in the comments here that Spell Mastery only works for spells with a casting time of 1 action. So turns out Shield and Misty Step don’t work. Bummer huh?
as a 1st level spell I would take "false life" to have more temporary hit points, since unfortunately "shield" is no longer possible because it necessarily requires a spell that uses a single action (no bonus action, no reaction) as 2lv I would take either "mirror image" because it doesn't require to upcast, or "warding wind" could be fun to give disadvantage to ranged attacks and deafen spellcasters (essentially the silence spell)
@@Bardaffo77 Good choices! I totally missed the new requirement that the spells must be an action, I guess my head is still a little stuck in 2014. Thanks for the comment!
My first 5e character was a Tortle Light Cleric 1/ Celestial Warlock for the rest of the build, so I could stack Shield of Faith with a shield, granting a 21 AC at lvl 1. Was such a fun character! He worshipped the sun until he needed more power, so made a deal with his god (hence Warlock), and I had a blast casting fire spells while tanking and healing for the party. If I were to rebuild him for 2024, would probably go Bladesinger with a 4 level Fighter dip, although the Circle of the Dragon Druid from the Griffin’s Saddlebag may be a better fit as a straight class build to capture the same feel as the origin character.
@@jeffersonian000 That’s an awesome character! I really want to try a light cleric/ Sun Soul monk multiclass sometime for the aesthetic.
@@RulesAsWrittenCharacterBuilds I do have a small Aasimar Sun Soul 18/ Bladesinger 2 build that I built for a “Littles” one-shot (a “Littles” game is where everyone plays a small character). Being able to stack Wis, Int, and Dex on a character that shoots lasers with their hands is a great concept, but we do points buy, and it’s difficult to cap three stats with a non-Fighter build. If I were to rebuild her in 2024, I would go Monk 12/Wizard 4 to net two epic boons, or just go straight Monk to net a 24 Dex and Wis.
@@jeffersonian000 Wow, a Bladesinger/Monk must be impossible to hit. Getting mage armor probably helps keep that wisdom low too. Yeah that Monk capstone is hard to pass up on, same as the Barbarian one.
Add Armor of Agathys and you get even more damage whenever enemies hit you.
@@The482075 That would fit perfectly here! Sea turtles are cold blooded after all.
I love gish builds.
@@The482075 Same! I always end up making mostly gish builds for the channel haha.
I always wanted to play a Bladesinger. And I also wanted to play a Tortle. Now I have the perfect Build, thank you! While I think that Conjure Minor Elementals willl be nerfed, at least at our table (which I would understand a 100%), the build still looks like a lot of fun! 😊
@@ovoss89 Thank you for the comment! Let me know if you get the chance to play it!
as soon as you try to make a bonus action attack with a staff as a polearm, it should end bladesong. It is silly to think that you're striking with a staff in one hand then somehow striking with the opposite end (as is described in the feat) with the same hand. Whenever you make an attack with using 2 hands, bladesong ends. Instead you could use a club and another light weapon. cast shillelagh on your club and use it for your bonus attack and a main action attack. The other main action attack can be made with true strike to keep it intelligence based. This doesn't conflict with bladesong and saves you a feat while giving you the same number of attacks.
that extra feat could be weapon mastery for a light weapon with nick. that gives you back your bonus action and you still make 3 attacks.
@@ericrbacher9371 I see where you are coming from! I had the same hang up when I was theory crafting a hoplite character that used a spear and shield plus polearm master. If the visual doesn’t look right, it’s hard to get invested in a character. But with quarterstaffs there is a wealth of one handed technique videos out there to give examples of how it might look. I personally like the visualize it as an attack action diagonal swing downward, from shoulder to hip. Then rotate the wrist and jab with the opposite end. And that position also sets you up for the extra attack being an upward and diagonal swing along the same path as the first attack. Also it pays to remember these weapon types in the PHB are extreme generalizations. What the rules call a quarterstaff can be anything from a 6 foot long Bo staff, to a 3 foot long Tanbo. At the end of the day, flavor is free. So as long as the rules allow it, we can visualize and flavor the characters actions in whatever way makes sense to us.
@@ericrbacher9371 That would be a good direction to go, dual wielding almost like a TMNT Rafael aesthetic. Unfortunately with that Nick attack, there’s no way to attack with Intelligence. So we’d need some Dexterity or Strength investment.
Don't think you can select Shield for the level 18 feature since it is a reaction not an action? Same with bonus action spells like Misty Step?
Oh shoot you're right! Can't believe I missed that. Thank you for the correction!
you had me interested in both watching and potentially subscribing till you mentioned the "2024 edition" ... nah man miss me with that AI slop.
@@soubigo No worries, the 2014 rules were good fun, I don’t blame you at all. Good luck out there!
I’d highly recommend taking fighter 1. It gives u way too much, Ik your behind one level but it’s too worth it. Gaining con prof and weapon mastery is too much to lose out on. Weapon master basically gives u an extra attack and it keeps your bonus action open. Then u take duel wielder at level 4 and boom 3 attacks at level 5 and then 4 and level 7. If u use shadow blade this gives u 3 shadow blade attacks once u get extra attack and that’s too much to give up. For race id highly recommend doing a flying race of the dm allows it. If not either drgaonbourne or assimar will be good. U don’t wanna waste concentration flying for whenever you fight flying enemies. If u don’t do the flying then u gotta do an elf for Elvin arc bc u will get so much adv with shadow blade at night/dim light and with your familiar granting u adv and one of your weapon master giving u adv on a hit too, u have so much adv to not use an elf. I see why u picked tortoe bc of that 17 AC plus blade song but it’s not worth it when those other races are an option.
I think the whole point here was to build a very different Bladesinger who does not need to rely on Dex at all. Two weapon fighting and the new Nick property will not work with Shillelagh and a quarterstaff or club. I think this is a different take, and may not be as powerful for straight damage, but gives some nice other benefits.
@@Brandonrod that sounds like a fun build, full on martial with light armor and weapons. At that point you don’t even need Shillelagh. What would you do for you origin feat?
@ alert bc u would have a 17 dex and 18 dex when u take duel wilder. Then I would stop at dex and do the next two ASI to get int to 20 assuming you want a good dc for spells since in the end of the day you’re a wizard.
@@elhombredequeso That was the goal! Thanks for the comment!
No offense, but I'm tired of bladesingers. It was one thing when it was limited to elves, and it had a cultural significance. Ever since they opened it up to anybody, it's the default gish build. Even the novelty of being a tortle doesn't make this interesting to me. With all the cool builds you could have made with the 2024 wizard subclasses, you went with bladesinger. Oh, well, it looks pretty good. Boring, but good. See ya on the next one.
@@ericpeterson8732 thanks for the feedback! I thought the possibility of dumping Dex made it worth a revisit. But it’s definitely a subclass that’s been done a lot!
Do you mean the same 2024 wizard that has no new subclasses? The 2024 PHB invalidates everything that came before, causing buying the previous books to retroactively be wastes. Not to mention, the gap widened significantly, J Craw is anti-race mixing, and Ranger got nerfed into the ground.
I hear you. Getting rid of half-elves and half-orcs in favor of orcs and goliaths was a terrible decision. And I get that you don't like the 2024 revisions. But the four wizard subclasses are good and not a hybrid subclass like bladesinger. He could have done a conjuration wizard or even a transmutation wizard and I would be more interested. Like PAM, XBE, hexblades, bladesingers are the optimizers' default picks, and I'm tired of them.
Good news! Font of moonlight is ALREADY a bard spell
@@bponcho414 I didn’t notice that! Still getting used to these new spells I guess. Thanks for the comment!
@RulesAsWrittenCharacterBuilds No worries, me too tbh. I just wish it scaled, like at all, lol
@ same! Especially when Conjure Minor Elementals scales like crazy.
I figured you'd go world tree for a cleave build. Much easier to reposition enemies from long distances. Then go sentinel.
@@bponcho414 World Tree is an awesome subclass! I was going for more of a mundane warrior aesthetic here, but I definitely think I’ll do something with World Tree in the future!
I like that build and it gave me good inspiration, but I have to make some adjustments for mine because I want the Tiefling, so no extra feat on Level 1. 😅
@@ovoss89 Devil Death Knight! I like it! I was say gonna if you start level 1 in warlock then you wouldn’t need the Magic Initiate Wizard origin Feat. But then you miss out on heavy armor from Paladin, so that might not be worth it. Actually after some thinking, you could do without Tough at level one, and then at level 7, warlock level 2, take the Lessons of the Old One’s invocation to get an extra Origin Feat, and take tough then.
Wait so at that point if you casted Divine Favor, had Form of Dread and Spirit Shroud with a level 5 warlock spell slot, you would deal on average : 6d6+48+6d8 which is close to a 96 damage per turn, or 99 accounting for the great weapon fighting fighting style, though that doesn't account for when you miss attacks. Still, it's a lot with relatively little ressource expenditure, and that's not even counting divine and eldritch smites or even crits 😅
@alexandredeberdt4066 Yeah the damage is nuts here! Next time I get to play in a high level campaign I’m gonna bring this build for sure. Paladin/Warlock is famous for a reason it seems!
Just a slight correction, Spirit shroud doesn't do an additional d8 for every spell slot level upcast. With a fourth level slot The damage increases by 1d8. But then it takes two spell slot levels to increase again. Also, at around 18:50 you say you have a +13 to hit. I'm trying to figure out what I missed. I know you would have +5 from your proficiency bonus, and +5 from your charisma. What is the other +3 coming from? Now I see that you maxed your charisma after that. So now I'm even more confused.
@@brynwtsn thanks for pointing that out! I didn’t mention the scaling of the spell because I’m trying to keep the run times down. But it’s an important clarification. The damage increases with spell slot levels 5,7, and 9. At 18:50 I was referring not to the to hit, but to the damage modifier. It was at a +13 because using Aura of Hate, and Great weapon master, we are adding our charisma (+4)twice and our proficiency (+5)once. So +13 total. Our to hit modifier would be a +9 at this point. Thank you for the comment!
Plz theory craft, a class build ,that prevents enemies, from gaining hp to heal,
@@pwog my new video, Arthas Menethil actually does that pretty well! It’s got chill touch, and Spirit Shroud, both of which shut down healing for a turn! The Super Saiyan Conqueror video also uses Spirit Shroud.
Please do not use ai. You may believe, falsely, that it simplifies your workload, but seriously, just.... Just don't. It's offensive to actual artists. Commission someone to actually do art for you, learn it yourself, or just don't use art in your videos. It's painfully obvious when you do, and it looks horrible, always.
Bro chill 🤣 You are telling him to learn to draw or pay an artist, which he may not know or cannot do, just enjoy the video, don't be rude
@@Irokutarabelmont I understand where you are coming from. I reached out to some artists whose work I admire when I was planning to start the channel. However commissioning four art pieces a month for my weekly uploads would be hundreds of dollars. I work full time to support my family, so I definitely can’t afford that. And the channel is too small for any artist to be interested in a sort of exposure compensation for their art. As for learning to make the art myself, I’m already stretching my time a bit alongside my real world responsibilities to make the channel, so I can’t attempt to learn a new skill and make these videos. But thank you for the feedback! In a perfect world I would love to partner with an artist, but realistically it’s not feasible at this point in time.
Are you an “artist” or are you taking offense on behalf of a theoretical one?
@Xenochrome If you don't see the harm ai is causing in visual media, your scope is much too small. You're the kind of person that would ask to pay for art in exposure, aren't you?
