There are MANY different kinds of sewing machine needles and they all have their special purpose and definitely should be used when needed. However for they types of projects and the kinds of fabrics I use and see there are really just a couple of needles I use daily. Here I discuss they two I use the most and the size I use the most and why. This will not be the case for everyone but for my clientele this is the case.
The TopStitch size 90/14 this I use for quilting, emrboidery and decorative stitching with heavier than normal weight threads.
Then there is is the Microtex size 80/12 this is use for most of all my sewing. I use this when making my shirts out of 100% cotton fabrics, piecing my quilts and every day sewing projects.
Thank you! I have always wanted to know which needles to buy. You are so knowledgeable and I really appreciate the time you take to make these videos xx
Needles really boggle people and for good reason there are so many different needles and it can be overwhelming for sure. I have found over there years what works for me and what I do so I am happy to share that with everyone. :)
Needle reminder, omg! I’ve been sewing with my 740 for 2 years and my needle reminder has been to scotch tape the needle container to the machine🤪
Your videos are the best. Can’t tell you how many Berninas i have owned since the 70s, but the 570 qe is my favorite. Thanks to you, I was able to start making a quilt from piecing to free motion quilting with the BSR with no problems. Thanks for taking the time to make these helpful videos.
I am so happy to hear you truly enjoy my videos and that you are finding them helpful. It means a lot. :) Hope you continue to enjoy them.
I've learned so much from your videos. Thank you for this.
I am so happy I didn't expect this video to be as popular as it is. So happy I am helping so many people :)
I am learning so much from you while I wait for my new 570
So happy to hear. It will be worth the wait the 570 is such a wonderful machine.
Thank you ❤️🇦🇪
Interesting to learn, Cody, the ‘work’ these needles do & why we needle to use what works for our sewing! Thank you!
Great video Cody. Thanks much! 💗🇺🇸🌵
So happy you enjoyed it. :) You're one of my #1 fans I love it. :) Thank You!!!!
Thank you Cody, yet another really helpful and informative video. I do appreciate it.
So happy you enjoyed it and found it helpful :)
Nice Ueltschi machine!
Thank you. You are so knowledgeable.
I am happy you are enjoying the videos. Thank you it just comes from working many years in the industry and I just absorb things like a sponge. :D
Excellent video. I really like the microtex needles too.
Thank you. Aren't they just wonderful?!! :)
Thanks for your information.
Thank You for watching and glad you found some useful info from it.
I was taught that thread at 50 should use an 80 needle. If you use 40wt thread, go to the 90 needle topstitch, thread tension will be great and not break if free motion quilting… Love the same 2 needles!!! Amazon sometimes has great prices and so does Etsy.
Great video!
Thank You. :)
Thank you! Thank You! I was told at my class for the Bernina B570 that you should never have to use a 90 needle🤷♀️! But if your thread is thicker you need a 90! Where can you purchase the Bulk needles? Thanks so much.
That’s strange because like I mentioned before I use size 90 a lot and many Betnina people do. But so happy I was able to help you out. My shop sells both of the sizes and style needles in the 100 pack. If you’d like we can ship you which ever you like and for those offer you free shipping if you’re within the lower 48 states. Just give us a call. 9858981112
Hi. Cody really enjoy your videos and advice. I have just purchased my first Bernina. I went for the 3 series as need a machine to take to class. Always wanted one but have had phaff in the past and now was my chance. I like that it is mostly mechanical. Do you have any videos on the 3 series. I went for the B335 as it is the right size for me to take to class only 7-8 kilo. I quilt as well as dressmake. Use my machine daily!!!!,
You are going to love your 335. I need to get working on some videos for the 3 series. They are a wonderful series and workhorse. They won't give you any trouble and will sew through anything you give it. Stay tuned from some good 3 series videos. :)
Thx Cody love Wht you share from experience. Wht should I use for metallic thread to sew thru layers?
Do you prefer the regular microtex or the chrome titanium ones? Is there a big difference?
Honestly I haven’t played with the chrome needles enough to say.
Ok, thank you. I ordered the regular ones, then saw them and wondered what the difference was. Personally I would rather use the cheaper regular ones, makes it more likely that I would not hesitate to toss a broken or blunt one lol!. Thank you for your great videos and advise always !
Is it safe to use one of the these needles when sewing with chiffon material?
absolute I would use the microtex but I might go down a size or two either use a 70/10 or a 75/11. The 80/12 is going to be to thick for that thin fabric. :)
@@sewingwithcodyandpete8651 great...thank you so much for the reply!!
Do u hv one regarding thread? For my 820, now traded, it only took aurifil. Frustrating. I usually piece cotton fabrics. Thanks.
