At 55:22, I couldn't figure out the simple concept of breaking open the glass tube thing, so I spent about 5 minutes aimlessly trying to jump into the vent. Then I grabbed a chair from the precious testing room and used that as a boost. It didn't work too well, but it somehow worked.
Portal is seriously an amazing game. I grew up on Portal 2 since I was a kid and recently I bought Portal 1 on steam and am currently playing through it rn. Got to say it's definitely awesome, I highly recommend for you to play Portal 2 though because it's a lot more longer, more storyline, and overall just is amazing. Dont get me wrong both Portal games are good but in my opinion Portal 2 is definitely more of a thrill and ride
42:15 and 56:35 gave me the highest adrenaline rush in my 1st portal gameplay. Unforgettable moments, feeling betrayed and manipulated by GLADOS as well as being surrounded with all these turrets.
Perhaps it may be because Portal 2 felt much more alive than Portal 1 due to the implementation of more sentient objects, such as the Transformation Panels and inclusion of a Character following you through the game most of the time. Whilst in Portal 1, all there really was was the voice of GLaDOS and the occasional turrets & rocket sentrys giving you a challenge through your jorney through Aperture Science.
It legit took me 5 years to beat portal 2- I just beat it today, I got stuck on a really easy part for like years- but anyway I played through the entire game knowing nothing about the first one lol
I can see how Half Life and Portal share so many things between them.. The characteristic of protagonist(despite HL protagonist is male while this is Female and both of them are silent character), the portal gun(remind me of portal gun in HL Opposing Force with the Zero Point Energy Field design-like), sound design, the element & atmosphere for a settings in this game and the way they represent the plot of the game through gameplay driven-style.... I always thought they were in same universe, but I think I can accept that Portal and Half Life are different game which I mean this is another IP after HL series in any Valve game but just both game sharing so many thing
Gordon λ Freeman: And Portal 2 farther confirmed this by having Cave Johnson talk about Black Mesa, and the missing boat which is seen in one of the half-life games
i only had Portal 2, and i played it so often i could speed run it in under an hour, but even by playing it as often as i did, there’s some things that you can’t fully understand without the first game, and i guess this is my long way of saying i get them now lol ty
I remember playing this for the first time back in 2007 while I was in college and was absolutely blown away when you evade death in that incinerator and all of a sudden nothing was as it seemed
As fun as this game is, it'd be pretty terrifying to be trapped in a research facility that's controlled by a hostile, seemingly omnipresent AI that threatens to kill you for disobeying her (its?) orders. I always got HAL-9000 vibes from GLaDOS, which is clearly the point here.
55:57 where you can see the portal collapse is soooo fucking cool and a fantastic piece of set design, considering the gun runs on a miniature black hole. of all my years knowing Portal/P2 i’ve never actually seen this
55:26 lmaoooo I've been making it so difficult for myslef!!! everytime I run from that tourette chamber to the vent so I can gather enough furniture to climb 😭 the number of times I died because of this lolol
Once upon a time, no commentary gameplays were the norm. I don't know what happened for people to shift their attention from the content to the player during the 2010s but I never liked the internet becoming another celeb factory. Television already filled that role for years. Apparently it wasn't enough for suits, thus this vapid, personality-focused streaming sector is what we have to live with now for literal games
I just got Portal 1 and 2 for my Switch and thanks to your video I beat it for the first time~ (my heart was pounding at the very end, I defeated GLaDOS with seconds to spare xD)
This video is really helpful since level 18 was REALLY annoying, the first part was ok it just took me a while to understand what i needed to do, but the second part with the platforms i thought was easy but it took like 20 minutes for me to complete it since i had to time it precisely, amazing game with great gameplay and lore though.
😂 I just played through the whole game again last night and I must say ( and obviously they did that on purpose, but...) when that GlaDos starts yacking and yacking in the last part of the game she really works on your nerves when you cannot solve a problem immediately that you even forget to just mute the sound. But of course the developers were so brilliant also because her constant yakity yack is also so funny and sarcastic you don't want to miss it 😂😂😂
i just whatching this video because i buy portal bundle so that means i have portal and portal 2 soo i just whatching this video to se how the portal game is
39:40 mark duuuuude stop turning your camera, just leave it in the same spot and you wouldnt miss the portal shot 18 times in a row 😂 minor trigger there
This is just my opinion/view but I personally see the Portal Duology as its own series. While yes it is canonically connected to the half life series I like to seperate it as its own story with no connection to Black Mesa or Half Life 1/2 whatsoever. [again, this is just my opinion.]

Why wasn't chell captured by the combine and was brought to city 17? Where is the citadel and city 17? 😐
I need a remaster of this for PS5 ASAP, Valve! I’m enjoying the Switch version but it gets janky every now and then. Still, it’s very good compared to how I played them both on 360 back in the day.
The sound design is soo good, you can really feel the loneliness and that somethings not right
Aww, I agree! ^^ It's really cool, and well said!
And then Portal 2 came and threw all that into trash
In a weird way. I wish I was there

I love how GladOs' voice changes from time to time
Same
I felt that Portal 1 had a darker tone compared to Portal 2
Yeah. Similar to Borderlands 1 and Borderlands 2
Well it’s like Arkham asylum was closer to a horror story and Arkham city was more of an action thriller
Whesly made portal better tbh
It’s probably because it’s older. I get that feeling too when I player these.

i love how youtube's autogenerated subtitles pick up the exact lines GLaDoS says and only messes up when interupted by sound effects
11:20 hehe *speedy thing go in and speedy thing go out*
i just started playing portal on my very slow laptop, and i didn't even expect it to run so perfectly. how tf did valve do that?
@Nolan Morris my laptop wasnt meant to handle games like this lol
it broke anyways

I remember these test chambers in portal 2, but its broken down
The ones repeated in Portal 2 are there to give the player some familiarity before delving into the real action.

my only question is what the tests were for
why were they happening?
I'm guessing it's for testing new technologies and to observe human behavior
I like that it's ambiguous; it gives you something to think about afterward.

i remember that radio music playing with a black man shaking his ass in front of the camera
