  • I like knowing what I'm spraying on the food my family will eat, so what could be better than making our own pest control? This is a recipe I have never used and in this first video, I will show you how to make it. As the gardening festivities begin and the bug buffet commences... I will do a follow up to see how well this garlic spray works. Good news is that is smells wonderful!

    Ernie just learned this a couple weeks ago. It made a huge difference in the amount of aphids that were on certain plants. TFS!

      You’re quite welcome! I always prefer to start with something natural. Truly, the only store bought remedy I own is Monterey bT. Thanks for watching!

    That’s a great idea! I did the same thing with Neem oil last year. 😫

    I have used DE, it kills everything but the worms, but also beneficial insects. You can apply dry or with a sprayer and it dries. You have to reapply it every time it gets wet though.

    • @arusticrenaissance
      @arusticrenaissance  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      This is correct. There is a certain point that if I don’t use DE, I will lose my vegetables so it’s a conscientious choice to bring out the big guns. I use garlic spray or bT first. If they persist out comes the DE. I am growing to eat so it is what it is. Hard choices sometimes 🥲

    doesn't market garlic sometimes carry garlic rust? would garlic spray then potentially infect your growing areas with the garlic rust fungus?

    • @arusticrenaissance
      @arusticrenaissance  วันที่ผ่านมา

      @@hiddenhen We use home grown, organically cared for garlic & I haven’t had any experience with this issue. I’d say, if you’re able, find a trusted source for organic garlic. I haven’t dealt with garlic rust at all but it sounds like you have. If there’s a way to see the plant and not just buy the bulb that may help in your selection. Another way to minimize this problem would be to grow your own then there would be no doubt as to its health. Thank you for watching!

    I believe that this garlic spray will work for mosquitoes also.

    Will this harm my flower bed and vegetable garden? Also do you think it will kill cutworms?. I had my first asparagus growing it was about 10” tall and it was just cut off ! Found the larvae and moths too.😢

      You can use garlic spray on your veggies and flowers BUT only spray in the evening. For cutworms I would use Monterey bT. It’s a fungus that’s not going to hurt pollinators. The pest ingests it and ka-boom. Done. I also use diatomaceous earth. DE needs to replaced when it rains. However, it works great on worms and hard shelled bugs. bT is only good for soft bugs (worms, caterpillars). I also squash bugs on sight. This year has been horrible for bugs! I hope you find the organic solution that works for you!

    Have tried Garlic sprays. They do not last long enough to do much.

    • @arusticrenaissance
      @arusticrenaissance  หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      That’s the thing with organic solutions. A rain or a good garden watering and you have to reapply. Through the JADAM method I’ve learned that the addition of Castile soap will make the product “sticky longer. In the end, I’m willing to make repeated trips to keep chemicals outside of our garden but not everyone has that luxury.

    Did you add hot sauce?

    • @arusticrenaissance
      @arusticrenaissance  3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I did indeed add 2 tablespoons of my homemade hot sauce to the gallon sprayer. Be sure to spray early morning or evening & watch which way the wind blows! It’s powerful stuff. Thanks for watching!

    Does this work on grasshoppers?

    • @arusticrenaissance
      @arusticrenaissance  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      So grasshoppers are ONE pest I haven’t had in the garden yet. But your question intrigued me so I did some research. It seems YES garlic spray will work. Of course, as with any natural spray it will have to be reapplied. Other ways to keep them at bay are: make sure tall grasses are cut down. Seems they love tall grass and weeds. Some veggies are disliked by grasshoppers too! Plant Tomatoes, squash and peas. Seems they don’t like them.
      Also some flowers seem to annoy grasshoppers! Try these: ianthus
      Lilac
      Forsythia
      Crepe myrtle
      Moss rose
      Verbena
      Salvia
      Sage
      Lantana
      Juniper
      Artemisia
      Jasmine
      and reduce your population in a beautiful way! Hope this helps and thank you for watching!! 💚

    Does this work for Japanese Beetles 🪲

    • @arusticrenaissance
      @arusticrenaissance  3 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

      It will repel them but you must constantly check your plants and spray as you see them return. They dislike the smell so they will try to find easier pickings. They are horrible pests! We don’t live close to others who garden so I use this along with traps to keep our plants healthy. Happy gardening!
