On this episode, Elle discusses the rise of loser men and how this phenomenon is less a consequence of women's liberation and more men's entitlement to women. Elle reacts to a video of a woman taking her baby father to a job interview at a fast food chain which he refuses to go to and how this scenario encapsulates the very real problem of men nowadays refusing to work. Elle shares a video of a creator who says "the real reason the modern young male does not want to work is because his paycheck no longer affords him power and control over women." This reminds Elle of the movie "Don't Worry Darling" which features an unemployed man who turns into a provider husband in a simulation. Elle closes the episode with reminding women to wake up to the world around them.

    Men feel entitled to women.
I was in a long term relationship with a guy who when we first started dating was doing to school to be an engineer and I was doing the same. As I progressed, he stopped going to school and just spent his time playing video games.
I tried to help me go back to school and motivate him and he just made promises about going next semester over and over again. When id had enough, he’d threaten to kill himself and I stayed out of guilt. This went on for years until I was graduated and a working professional engineer.
I felt like I could leave and I did. He stalked me for month, begging for me to take him back. It got to the point where I was afraid to go home. I blocked him from everything and all of a sudden it stopped, I didn’t hear from him and I finally thought it was over. 2 months later he ambushes me at my house, at gun point and tried to kill me. I fought back for the gun and when the police came he took off and deleted himself when the police closed in on him.
His family smeared my name, sent me threats and blame the situation ON ME. That I was this awful person, that I never treated him right. And for a while I believed it. I know better now.

I'm severely mentally ill and at one point I was working two jobs to support my three kids and their Dad and it was getting to be overwhelming and really messing with my mental health and I came to their Dad crying and said, "I really can't keep working two jobs. I can't do this. It's too much." And he kept a blank face and said, "I need you to keep working these jobs right now." I was disgusted and pissed in that moment. I instantly stopped crying because my sadness turned into anger. Not just that but other times when I would complain about him not helping around the house and that I have to do everything at home after working all day he would claim I didn't even have a real job because I worked in an office and that's so easy 🙄 I told him if it's so easy why can't he do it? He had nothing to say. After 5 years of me being the sole provider, he got yet another job, he has had over 50 and just stops going after a few days or weeks, and he was promising me he was going to keep this one, then he fractured a bone in his ankle from jumping off a truck and never went back to work and that was 2 years ago. He no longer lives with me. I kicked him out two years ago but when I would bring up how he quit yet another job he tried to say he had no choice because his ankle and I asked him, "If I broke my ankle would I be able to stop working?" He was silent and I said, "No, I wouldn't, even if I became a quadriplegic, I'd have to figure out a way to work, because if I didn't the kids would be homeless and get taken away." And that's the truth because he doesn't care. We were near homelessness many times when I was still believing his lies and promises that he was going to come through and he'd attack me and throw tantrums when I tried to work more to keep our kids from being homeless until eventually I left him and when he begged and pleaded for me back I told him I am the main provider now and he needs to move his schedule around mine because I'm the only one that's responsible enough to make sure the bills get paid and after that he didn't even try to work...until that job where he broke his foot several years later.

However, he is dead scared of marriage because, in his words, "the family livelyhood would fall on my shoulders," that's when I got the hell out of there. It's funny because he said what he liked the most about me was that I had my shit together. I have my own place, car, pay all my bills and make good money.

I think that's cultural. In some countries it is common for the adult children to live with their parents since forever. Common in developing countries where job availability is scarce. There are man babies but there are dependable guys as well. The latter usually live with the parents because they grew up poor, are more family oriented and well, at times they are their family's breadwinner. The latter is also the type to save money to make their parents a house first. Living with the parents isn't always bad but it does tell a lot about the adult children if they are willing to contribute or not.

And when I learned about narcissism…phew! I finally understood the toxic family dynamics I experienced growing up and the same predators roaming through society. Yes I wish I knew all of this years ago. Would have saved me a lot of unnecessary confusion and stress.

My ex would complain about how his boss isn't paying him enough. Meanwhile he'd talk about being on the internet all day at work and taking long coffee breaks. He'd also spend his money on an expensive car and other materialistic things while complaining about how much groceries and utilities cost. Yes, those things are expensive but he could pay it if he wasn't wasting his money on other things. He was in debt.
I earned less than him and all my necessities were paid off and I have savings and investments.

Same w/ me and my ex. He made more than me, didn't have his own car (I did) and he had a roommate to make ends meet and I managed alone. It wasn't my norm to go out w/ guys like this, but I felt guilted into the thing of not caring about materialism. It isn't just about materialism. A man w/ no assets at our age (me 45, him 50) is trouble. As I figured out years later when I moved in w/ him. Let's just say I've never had a relationship end as badly as it did w/ him after 10 years and I'm still recovering from the lies, cheating, betrayal and carrying a house alone, that I never should have bought w/him.

He then asked me to continue working 2 jobs (while I was going to school full time) and he was gonna take time to go back to school (he wanted to switch careers, first degree was in underwater basket weaving essentially). I asked why he couldn’t do what I was doing and work while in school. He told me he wasn’t going to stress himself out and he wasn’t raised like “that”. I asked what “that” was. “That” was to overwork himself. Lmbo but he said it looked like I handled it well. A lot of women on tiktok are posting their husbands who either pretended to work for months while actually being unemployed or just complaining about hating their kids while posting them on social media. Apparently those are signs that they're about to carry out the annihilation. Some people have explained that it's because men view their wives and children not as people but as extensions of themselves and feel as of they can't provide a living, the family would unalive anyway.

Cleaning houses is far from the lowest of all jobs. It pays well enough, much better than minimum wage. There is always that kind of work. Good and trustable housekeepers are hard to find. If you can make a business of it, you can retire young if you want, if you get enough employees under you. Then you can work lightly and be a fill in, while running your little business. It's honourable work. I used to get housekeeping due to disability and I valued a good housekeeper, and they were always respected.

In most instances there is never an excuse not to take a job if that job is the only one you can get and are qualified for.
Some money is better than no money. Who is going to pay the bills while they wait around for a job that is “good enough” for them? Not me. Not ever.
Getting on the first stepping stone is better than standing still.
If someone told me they wouldn’t work a job based on the principle of “low paying no benefits in a capitalist system” I’d laugh long and laugh hard…but only after I ran so fast in the opposite direction all they’d see is the dust from my high heels.
A good paying job isn’t going to just “pop up” for a person like that.
A lot of people with degrees (depending upon the degree) but no work experience (at all) find it tough to find employment after graduating.
And who can blame those employers. I don’t want to hire an entitled person with little work ethic for my team either.

Something that is very uncomfortable to discuss for many is that historically a large portion of these types of men would be sent off to die in battle. In the US the promise of an 'indian princess' waiting out west for them was advertised to get them to go west. These types must go forth and conquer and ruin somebody's life and if they happen to knock somebody up and strike gold and bring that back to their home town then good for them, right. At one point having aggressive and violent men was pure defense against the village next door who wants to raid your stuff and kill you, but now they are a looming danger to everyone.

I had a second job as a pizza delivery driver and I saw some people I knew, and I refused the instinct to tell them about my “better” job. I want to resist that shame internalized in me. It’s actually a really chill enjoyable job, and I can listen to music and drive around on nice days, and I get paid. It isn’t shameful. Plus, pizza discount lol. I want to live in a way where I don’t shame others either for doing what they need to do to get by.

This is a hot topic. I remember when I had my account on Tinder, there were a lot of men who were pitiful, they were broke or unemployed, involved in some scam stuff. And they all tried to find the perfect one who will almost “lick their toes and say how great they are, how talented they are”. It was embarrassing to see.
This is one of the reasons why I will never fully rely on men. Because enough of them are pretty jealous when a woman is more successful than they are, and they can easily mistreat her.
I would never ever date a man who would deny to provide for my family, kids. He can take his stuff and leave

That’s not the point of this advice, the point is not to strive to be liked to be treated better, or that you don’t deserve to be treated better as a human right, it’s to dispel any illusions, (that himself could be spewing onto you), that he likes you when he treats you like shit, because a lot of women will stay in abusive relationships because they believe they are loved, that the guy just has some issues of his own but he does have her best interests at heart and how could you turn your back on somebody that loves you so much? Etc, etc… When this type of behavior is an indictment of a lack of seeing you as a fully realized human being, there’s no liking you and simultaneously abusing you. Yes, he is also not a good person for this type of behavior, it is about character, but that’s beside the point, but you can add “he doesn’t like you + he’s not a good person” if you want

Concepts that are so simple, yet when you're in a long relationship, and you kept rationalizing his behavior for years, thinking you should cut him some slack on this and that, but failing to see that, well, if he wanted to, he would. You didn't need to rationalize all the getting the short end of the stick. You were being played.
